Thinking of switching generals from Savra to Jarad. Savra's wincon is annoying (stax), and it takes long to set up, but she does survive to the very end, most of the time, and whenever it comes down to attrition, she wins hands down. This deck aims to take the good bits from Savra and re-appropriate the rest to working for Jarad.
Is Jarad for you?
Jarad is a versatile general who provides Golgari decks with something all Golgari players should have learnt to love: a sac-engine. As a general who who can be versatile at every stage of the game, Jarad provides players with interesting methods to try and win the game, chiefly through General Damage in 1v1 or through sacrificing big creatures in multiplayer to quickly kill off our opposition. Remnants of stax elements from my Savra deck also help further this goal by slowing down our opponents as we continue to whittle down their life totals.
This deck is for you if... ...you like graveyard-based play. As a semi-stax deck with heavy dredge influence keeping our graveyard filled is an important strategy for Jarad. Most of our creatures are willing to die for the cause, and through reanimation we seek to bring them back. This also helps us cheat creatures into play, and pump jarad.
...if you love Ravnica lore. I found Jarad to be one of the more interesting characters in the cycle and perhaps, even more so than his treacherous sister Savra, who seems to fill an archetypal role. Jarad's abilities are also linked with his lore, in a way, more so than Savra's.
...if you love big creatures. The deck fulfills some Timmy fantasies thanks to the inclusion of naturally big creatures such as Ghoultree and Lord of Extinction, big beatsticks which can be granted evasion or simply sacrificed for damage, and creatures that seem to keep coming back.
This deck isn't for you if... ...you love the combat step. We hardly do attack with our ETB creatures because many of them die. We won't be able to power out a winning strike in the first few turns, so our pressure really starts when the mid-game begins. Aggro lovers may not like the deck as much.
...you dislike stax. Grave Pact is my favourite card in this deck, so if you hate it, you probably shouldn't play this deck.
Deckstats

Mana distribution: 59B 41 G
Mana source distribution: 60B 40 G
Card Type Distribution: 36% Land, 31% Creature, 33% Non-creature spells.
Jarad's a general that works best when you have access to as many mana outlets as possible. This is due to his second ability being mana-reliant as well as the higher casting cost of our deck's better creatures, some of which can be cheated into play. Ideally, the early game should be spent ramping as fast as possible, preferably with any of our green elves. If needed, Oracle of Mul Daya can be transmuted for by Dimir House-Guard.
Jarad is a general that uses the graveyard as a resource. As such, filling the graveyards is not as heavy a need early on due to the inevitable risk of a stray Bojuka Bog ruining your day. Use cards like Golgari Grave-Troll and Hermit Druid when you can execute a proper play. Dredge and Hermit Druid can be incredibly risky to use if you use it on the wrong turn/ expose your grave to exile.
Otherwise, the deck plays similarly to a MBC deck. Abrupt Decay is useful for early game targets and some generals, for instance Sygg, River Cutthroat. Creatures such as Shriekmaw and Bone Shredder should only/usually ever cost 2B, and last not more than one turn.
Early Game
Our deck runs by filling the yard with as many creatures as possible. As such, we have completely eschewed most traditional forms of mana ramp (i.e. Cultivate) in favour of creature-based ramp, such as Yavimaya Granger, who is usually sent to the graveyard immediately after fulfilling her duties. You don't want to send Jarad out early game unless you need a sac outlet as he accomplishes little early. Ideally, the early game is our 'set-up' phase - we should focus on preparing our board to get Jarad online.
This means prioritising not just ramp, but also tutor effects or stax elements such as Savra and Gravepact, or preparing to reanimate creatures such as Sheoldred and Mikaeus. With big mana, we can repeatedly use Jarad's ability to whittle our opponents down.

Try swapping the demon for Butcher of Malakir. A walking Grave Pact in this deck is never a bad thing to have.
I did think about the Butcher. I have a copy. However, the problem of the deck being unable to Pod out the Butcher, as well as the shift from early sacrifice shenanigans to late-game power-based plays really brings his value down a bit. I mean, it's good to have the Butcher, although I guess he isn't necessary.
However, the Demon is just useless. It's almost definitely pointless until you sacrifice it, upon which it can be up to 13/13. I will check out other creatures within that range.

I have a buddy that's been testing Jarad extensively for the last few weeks, and I'll put in my two cents that the Demon is often sub-par. Most decks have some critters they can feed him until they can come up with a Swords or Chaos Warp. Often he ends up doing nothing for 2-3 turns before eating removal.
Also, how has Mutilate been? Without Urborg out, I feel like Damnation or even Barter in Blood would be better here. I've never been a fan of this card in B/X/X decks.

Mutilate's been A-OK so far. I haven't really gotten the need to sweep boards yet, so I can't say. I'd replace it with Damnation, but I lack the money.
Desecration Demon hasn't been removed yet because my opponents have had tokens to defend themselves with...they save their removal spells to the very last minute. Valid strategy, but still.
I'd think about replacing it or maybe cutting a creature entirely. Perhaps I could add something like Mindslicer or Phyrexian Delver or even Creakwood Liege for B/G beats.

The chain kind of dies out at 6 CMC. As much as Mikeaus is important, other creatures above 5 CMC work as well, but we have no way to bring them out.
Any other creatures I could use at 6 CMC? I'm thinking Triskelion for the standard Mikeaus-Triskelion combo, but is there anything else I could use?

Well, I'm always itchy to include Duplicant in most decks. Woodfall Primus is fairly rampant in my meta, and he's about the best non-W answer there is.
Woohah's Glissa primer has the who's-who of 6cc BG guys. Some of the better ones (beyond Mike & Trike):
Harvester of Souls - decent card advantage Nirkana Revenant - not sure you really need the big mana, but she can be pumped quite large to throw with Jarad Ink-Eyes - re-use your opponents' big guys, but her regeneration doesn't clique with your choice of board sweepers
"Some of the other guys dared me to go out, but I knew it weren't no ordinary giant giga-blasting blaze of unending flames that would scorch the whole world."
—Norin the Wary
How has Vraska been for ya? I recently threw her into my Karador deck to try her out, but unfortunately haven't even drawn her yet.
As long as Schizoid doesn't mind, I can provide my own comments on her. I've been running her in Glissa, and I've drawn her in multiple games. She's definitely solid, as repeatable noncreature removal can be hard to come by (and the fact she can hit creatures as well is helpful). In most games you can usually squeeze two Pulses out of her before she's dealt with, which I find to be a good deal for 3BG.
I've only had her ultimate go off once, and it was promptly answered by a Damnation.

I'll think about Ink-Eyes? Harvester of Souls is good but it seems to be conflicting with our late-game plan, since most of our kill spells come early game. I'll still consider him though.
Nirkana's too situational.

Yep. In this deck she sticks around for at least 3 turns because I have creatures to help block. Most of the time, if I had to choose a pulse target, I would target creatures first to ensure she makes it to the second pulse. If possible, I'd go on to leave her at 1 loyalty and build my way up to pulse every 3 turns.
Her ultimate would be funny in this deck since there's Filth and all, but I doubt it'll ever happen in a real game.

Once again, I've always felt conflicted as these creatures are too high a CMC to be as useful in the lategame because most of our kill-spells are gone. Reaper from the Abyss could backfire, but he is definitely better than Gleancrawler, who can mess up our Jarad strategy. I think I will consider running Harvester of Souls instead. Or even Triskelion for the infinite combo.

Have you considered Krosan Tusker? It's beefy, can dump itself in your graveyard, and is just plain card advantage. Elvish Aberration is vey good in a similar vein.
I'm glad to see I'm not the only one playing ghoultree. It's cheap, huge sacrifice fodder.
As for six drops, I personally run omnivore hydra because it has high power for it's cost and keeps damage symmetrical, on top of just being a very strong beater.
EDIT: I just by happenstance rediscovered Xathrid Demon, and suddenly I realize he's amazing with Jarad. He has the added bonus of letting you sac a high power Jarad. It boggles my mind that I actually managed to totally forget about this card. I guess it's just not very good anywhere else.

Holy crap, Xathrid Demon's essentially Jarad......but without a cost. That's awesome. I'll think about getting one, but the 3B is kind of restrictive.
Hydra Omnivore is cute, but it needs to connect to be truly devastating. I would use something like Terra Stomper for that 6 mana green beater, but if I wanted a 6 mana cost creature I would be considering either Triskelion, Xathrid Demon or Soul of the Harvest.
Or maybe even Krosan Tusker solely for ramp.

Tusker is 7 unfortunately. But yeah, I'm not sure how Xathrid Demon was something I never thought about for Jarad. I vaguely remembered it and was thinking "Oh, well it's one of those demons that have a constant upkeep sac trigger, so it's power must be high relative to it's cost, and this deck could handle the drawback." Then I looked it up and my jaw dropped when I read it's actual trigger. The fact that it's a 7/7 flying trample for 6 is also definitely not to be overlooked.

Xathrid Demon is interesting, yes but now I've also found Necropolis Regent. One pumps your entire field, one pumps itself. But Xathrid is independent while the Regent needs your creatures to connect - if they could, the game might not even need the Regent. Plus, flavourwise the Regent is in bad taste.
I'll add Xathrid Demon and Necropolis Regent to my list of cards to test.
Onto the issues: Graveyard hate - this deck has only 2 sources, plus. Not sure whether I should add cards like Withered Wretch because while there are graveyard based decks in the local meta, most of them are one-off combos e.g Revillark. The reanimator strategies come from me, but GY hate is always welcome...

Also, how has Mutilate been? Without Urborg out, I feel like Damnation or even Barter in Blood would be better here. I've never been a fan of this card in B/X/X decks.
stuff
Mutilate's been A-OK so far. I haven't really gotten the need to sweep boards yet, so I can't say. I'd replace it with Damnation, but I lack the money.
Desecration Demon hasn't been removed yet because my opponents have had tokens to defend themselves with...they save their removal spells to the very last minute. Valid strategy, but still.
I'd think about replacing it or maybe cutting a creature entirely. Perhaps I could add something like Mindslicer or Phyrexian Delver or even Creakwood Liege for B/G beats.

Mindslicer and Phyrexian Delver are both solid choices. Both fit well into the Birthing Pod chain. If I had to choose between the two, I'd pick the Delver (by just a hair).
stuff
The delver helps, I guess. Another creature to bring out Mikeaus would be good.
Currently the food chain works like this:
2CMC: 5
3CMC: 9 (+birthing pod?)
4CMC: 5 (+birthing pod?)
5CMC (with Delver): 6
6CMC: 1
7CMC: 4
8CMC: 1

Harvester of Souls - decent card advantage
Nirkana Revenant - not sure you really need the big mana, but she can be pumped quite large to throw with Jarad
Ink-Eyes - re-use your opponents' big guys, but her regeneration doesn't clique with your choice of board sweepers
stuff
Cockatrice Username: seriph0
As long as Schizoid doesn't mind, I can provide my own comments on her. I've been running her in Glissa, and I've drawn her in multiple games. She's definitely solid, as repeatable noncreature removal can be hard to come by (and the fact she can hit creatures as well is helpful). In most games you can usually squeeze two Pulses out of her before she's dealt with, which I find to be a good deal for 3BG.
I've only had her ultimate go off once, and it was promptly answered by a Damnation.
stuff
I'll think about Ink-Eyes? Harvester of Souls is good but it seems to be conflicting with our late-game plan, since most of our kill spells come early game. I'll still consider him though.
Nirkana's too situational.

So far so good, I mostly use her for the pseudo-Vindicate. It's been pretty helpful for me so far. I never get to use the ultimate though.

Generals meant to be drafted first in a single pack of 6 cards.
And here is the actual cube, meant to be drafted in 4 regular sized packs. (60 card decks)
