I have another version of this Shirei deck but tended to faulter and not beable to win after a certain point in the game. After some thinking shortly after Scars of Mirrodin came out It seemed that Poison was a viable way to win with 1/X dudes. Thus build is oriented toward the deadly art of poisoning. It has less random built in utility answers cards, discard, and mass removal but it makes up for it by being able to kill faster. There is a heavier artifact theme, proliferate, card draw, and a potential Magistrate's Scepter lock. Most people treat Shirei, Shizo's Caretaker as a joke deck until they die to it.
I left out Ichorclaw Myr due to space and his potential to not come back via Shirei.
I will have to make room for Whispering Specter when New Phyrexia comes out.
again I am sure there are more but this is all I can think of at this time.
Other Notes:
- You basically want to get Shirei set up with Lightning Greaves or Darksteel Plate or both and then you are sitting pretty good.
- adding poison to the deck made cut a lot of the disruption the regular version of the deck had, as well as more draw spells, and sweepers. The sweepers were actually really bad most of the time because I had more to lose than everyone else.
- Reiver Demon was really good but he got cut.
I'm really liking the theme you have set up here, very synergistic. With the amount of sac outlets your running though, is there a reason you are not running grave pact/butcher of malakir?
I personally wouldn't run them due to the composition of my playgroup, but they would fit very well to clear blockers and make the deck more competitive. They would draw a lot more hate too though.

Butcher is in there and I don't have a gravepact right now. I realized after I submitted the deck list that I forgot I was going to mention the Gravepact not being in even though it is obviously pretty good. Believe me I have thought about getting one and putting it in but right now I am so cramped for space and the deck runs pretty smoothly. Gravepact is gone once someone blows it up anyway because I dont run Yawgmoth's Will or Ill Gotten Gains or any other way that can get it back.
Yawgmoth's Will is pretty good in this deck. I ran it in my other version of Shirei.
You obviously have the deck very well tuned, I can keep suggesting cards that would fit the theme, but it looks like you have it nailed down. The only really advantageous one I can think of is sorceress queen so that you can save some of your bigger utility creatures.
Grim Harvest has started becoming a staple in my black decks. In yours, you can control the recover much better, and only need to use it for the bigger creatures. Malevolent Awakening may work better for the theme though, although its a bit more fragile in itself.
I always like suggestion even if I don't use them. It gives me something to think about. I have taken ideas that people have given me for one deck, not used it in there, and put it into another one.
I wasn't running mortarpod until someone said "Why aren't you running mortarpod?" It never even crossed my mind to play it before.
I love this concept, did clockwork beast not make the cut? Awwww he is my favorite from back in "the day".
In this deck when something dies with Shirei out it has to have 1 or less power when it leaves play and hits the graveyard. Thus the Clockwork Beast most like would hardly see recursion. The deck likes to sacrifice things often every players turn. I do love the clockwork creatures. Clockwork Dragon is my favorite because he sits there and collects counters and then kills people.
Ah I see, (I read the rulings on the card), what about Coffin Queen ?
Coffin Queen is really good. I run it in my other Shirei deck that isn't poison. The poison kind of sucks all the room out of the deck. It was hard to have to cut it for this one. Whenever I play my other version I wish I would play with some of the cards in this version. I think the poison version is better in the sense that it can kill easier...worse in the sense that it is lacking a lot of the disruption the other version had. Coffin Queen is a card that could very easily make it back into the deck.
I've been thinking about adding Spine of Ish Sah . I have these grand ideas of using it with Priest of Yawgmoth to play it for free. Imagine having a bunch of dudes out, a sac outlet, and the priest equiped with Thornbite Staff...getting multiple Spine castings a turn. Not to mention that I will probably add Phyrexia's Core (land with: 1 tap- sac an Artifact gain a life) anyway to the deck. If I do I may want to add Infernal Tribute back into the deck instead of Null Profusion...if I do that.
Every turn Spine of Ish Sah is a major pain in the butt, I was playing against a guy doing that this week, killed my General 3 turns in a row, and totally shut me down. When I steal this idea, I will definitely play it LOL! ... and with Thornbite Staff that basically kills everything on the board. Also you are playing Hell's Caretaker, he is retarded with Thornbite Staff on him.

Kills all the Cretures on the board at least.
Yeah Hell's Caretaker + Thornbite Staff + Triskelion = Infinite Damage Win.
- Hell's Caretaker + Thornbite Staff + Marsh flitter = Infinite Dudes
- Hell's Caretaker + Thornbite Staff + Pilgrim's Eye = All your basics in your hand for an epic Scroll Rack.
and few others.
In my other Shirei deck that combo can make every opponents discard thier hand (with Noxious Toad, Thieving Sprite, and Ashen-Skin Zubera), Put their hand on top of their deck via Chimney Imp, more infinite damage combos (with Infectious Host or a card like that), get all basics with Solemn Simulacrum and draw a bunch of cards, Remove thier graveyard via Heapdoll, infinitely sac and bring back Thoughtpicker Witch or Pawn of Ulamog making infinte eldrazi spawn then sac a spawn for 1 mana > activate Thoughtpicker Witch (sac a spawn) > RFG each opponents deck. If only Hell's Caretaker Thronbite Staff was easier to get into play and stay in play long enough.
Also Hell's Caretaker/Staff is so much better when you have a deck like this that plays really crappy creatures with abilities.
Had a 3 really fun games with the deck last week. Won 2 of them ( with regular damage) and almost the 3rd (stupid last opponent topdecking when I had him at 8 poison and dead next turn). I had a pretty good synergy going for a while using Mindless Automaton's "1: pitch a card add a +1/+1 counter". I had a fist full of land due to Pilgrim's Eye bouncing in and out of play and I had been drawing land so I started filter 2 lands for a card. I was drawing up to 4 cards each players off the Automaton and a Scarcrone and still drawing mostly land. Even started pitching artifacts and getting them back in hand by sacrificing Junk Diver and Myr Retriever. Eventually I got a Lightning Coils out sealed the victory rather quickly with 8 3/1 hasters and my guys and then 14 the next turn and my guys.
One game I got out a quick Triskelion along with Shirei and that provided a lot of damage and little creature kill (every players turn 2 damage to whatever, 1 to Triskelion). Then followed it up with a Soldevi Adnate to give me an extra 7 mana on my turn turn on top of my quick start.
genesis chamber is bonkers in a shirei deck. my brother plays shirei and this is a total house
great fodder for clamp and you can produce an overwhelming horde of myr tokens in short order. seeing the charge counters on scepter and coils this really a no brainer addition to make that infinite turn go off. lux cannon seems good here as well with the proliferate and coretapper. that being said there are also a few changes i would make as well. with the draw power of some of your creatures the slate is really unneccisary. also null profusion is terrible get rid of it. drawback can kill you. never make your opponents job easier. where are all your tutors? diabolic, demonic, vampiric, beseech the queen? search always streamlines a deck. and playing black its mandatory. and with all the tap creatures you have a thousand-year elixir wouldnt be a bad idea as it gives powerhouse weenies like royal assasin, sorceress queen, coretapper,.......effective haste on every turn.
also the spine is a good idea. and my brother has taken to running karn, silver golem. its very versatile by making your opponents artifacts susceptable to creature destruction as well as your artifacts come back via shirei and queen. and he can block godzilla.
im sorry, i threw a lot at you..... my brother plays a shirei deck and we have put a lot of work into it and its brutal. enough poison to get the job done if need be and plenty of shirei shennanigans to be bonkers good, and even more fun to play. hope this gives you a happy day!

I only have a about 5 dudes that could use thousand-year elixer I could see it being ok...with the guys I have I don't see it being that important but maybe. I'll think about it.
I have had the Scepter in the deck for a long time and I have never pulled it off. I think I have only played it 1 time. Dross Scorpion/Throne of Geth gets there a lot but with no scepter.
I've been actually thinking about adding Night Dealings as well, although it doesn't have much synergy with Infect guys.
Speaking of poison I like the looks of Suq'Ata Assassin but he doesn't have much synergy with my "alternative give you poison plan" (mortarpod and Thornbite staff) not that it is a problem. I already need to add Whispering Specter from New Phyrexia. That card is going to be a house. Hex Parasite is another possible include.
sorry man, i guess i just missed your little tutor section at the bottom.
i still think coretapper is a must. easily a house with the right cards. mana tends to be a problem for him and things like everflowing chalice go really well with your proliferate and coretapper. my brother and i ran into the same problems building his version.
100 cards isnt enough for all the fun stuff you want to put in there.
i have no doubt that spectre is going to be a bomb in this deck. allthough my brother and i have had some heated discussions on how bad torpor orb is going to hurt shirei. it also seems like you are missing a couple of must have enchantments now i take a second look at your list.
come to mind.
an off the wall suggestion here, my brother swears by it in his deck.....extractor demon i have seen him mill out multiple opponents with it. its pretty good. you might oant to take a look through the forum for other lists. one of the mods, viper i think, has a couple of shirei lists. both are fantastic. good luck with your build!

I think I am going to try coretapper and Thousand-Year Elixer. I am probably going to add Spine of Ish Sah. I think the spine will need to be suplimented with Phyrexia's Core and maybe put Krark-Clan Ironworks back in the deck giving me 3 sac outlets for it (4 if I can get Infernal Tribute back in the deck). I want to add Everflowing Chalice just room is tight.
i have no doubt that spectre is going to be a bomb in this deck. allthough my brother and i have had some heated discussions on how bad torpor orb is going to hurt shirei.
there are only a few cards I fear that I sun into on a regular basis. A Relic of Progenitus when I can't get the player to just RFG all graveyards and they will just sit there making me remove 1 every turn and Mimic Vat because that card hoses Shirei. I've had to make some pretty creative plays to work around it when it has been out since a player can just run every creature you sac through the vat making it not recognized as a creature that was put into the graveyard from play this turn thus nullifying Shirei's ability.
I don't see Torpor Orb too much a problem. It won't be too horrible.
I ran Attrition in my other build but it seemed to sit around a lot and do nothing. I preferred Infernal Tribute's effect over it. Phyrexian Reclamation is pretty ok. I thought about it but have never really had a problem getting creatures back. I do suppose it helps you play a creature multiple times a turn.

to many Eldrazi in my play group to try and mill people. I hate milling people because I find most of the time that it helps them more than hurts them. That is the 1 mode on Decimator Web that really makes me not want to play it. I can see how it is good though. In my other Shirei Deck Thoughtpicker Witch and Pawn of Ulamog combo well together to RFG a card from people's decks for each creature you have in play every players turn.
ultimately I would like to try out Krark-Clan Ironworks and Infernal Tribute if the Spine works out well. Just trying out the Spine and the Elixer. Lux Cannon might be pretty good and I already mentioned Everflowing Chalice. Just not enough room. I always want to be able to play Nether Traitor and Reassembling Skeleton like in my other Shirei deck but there just isn't the room.
Things that could potentially go: Workhorse - it is so good though Hatred - I've had the deck this way for a while and have never used it (it is better I suppose in the deck than the already cut Phyresis and Tainted Strike). Blade of the Bloodchief - cool but not all that effective
my brother runs jester's cap to take care of problem cards like eldrazi, relic, crypt and such. its a much better option over sadistic sacrament in shirei, due to the easy recursion of artifacts available from myr retriever and junkdiver. i agree with your thoughts on hatred. if you have a card and never play it over something else, thats a good sign you need to replace it. pithing needle would be a good replacement for the blade, same cmc, and neuters relic, crypt, troublesome walkers, and all sorts of other shennanigans. plus you can sac it, and recur it easy enough.
- Hatred - Never used it and it was a dead card a lot
- Blade of the Bloodchief - cute and fun but not entirely useful. Killed 1 person with it Shirie and Shizo, Death's Storehouse
- Meekstone - The card was pretty good. It was just not something I specifically was looking for very often. I never tutored for it. Ocassionally it prevented a lot of attack damage.
- Flensermite - I deemed it the weakest card in the deck even though it is very much on theme with what the deck wants to do. Sorry little gremlin.
+ Lux Cannon - More removal and works with coretapper and proliferate
+ Genesis Chamber - makes guys. Had it in my other version and it was pretty good (rarely it turns into a liability and will get you blown out)
+ Kuldotha Forge Master - eats guys and tutors
+ Everflowing Chalice - works with coretapper and proliferate
as good as forgemaster is, it really doesnt fit in shirei. while it could be really good with genesis chamber out, thats about the only time you would want to see it. otherwise it is a 5 mana, summoning sick artifact tutor, that doesnt recurr with your general. all in all having a regular good old black tutor card, vampiric, demonic, diabolic...... woud be preferred. i still really dont like decimator web, would be ok if it said each opponent. as it is all it does for you is give poison counters. i still think you would be better off with something versatile like icy manipulator. very underrated card in edh. taps down eldrazi and gigantic flyers/tramplers, STILL good with royal assasin, and is useful every time it hits the board. also the mana cost on the activation is a lot more manageable.
I'm trying out Forgemaster. When I've gold fished the deck it looks like it will be pretty good. It gives me a sac outlet for things when I don't have one, lets me tutor up combos, and provides a decent sac outlet for the Spine of Ish Sah. I need to try it out more but the game or 2 I played with it in the deck i didn;t get it out. I'm not all that worried that it doesn't come back with Shirei. I already have some creatures that don't use Shirei.
Decimator Web is ok. Usually I usually try to poison a few people and kill the rest with regular damage and the Decimator Web (AKA Noob Cannon) gets a poison counter on someone so I can proliferate then to death. The worst/most dangerous part about it is that it mills cards. I wish it didn't do that. It is fun to kill people with Poison from a Noob Cannon.

Foil of Course
Things that Poison:
I left out Ichorclaw Myr due to space and his potential to not come back via Shirei.
I will have to make room for Whispering Specter when New Phyrexia comes out.
Cards that Aid in Poisoning:
Combo's:
* Proliferate + Magistrate's Scepter = Infinite Turns
* Coretapper + Magistrate's Scepter = Infinite Turns
* Thronbite Staff + Hell's Caretaker on your upkeep = Infinte enters the battlefield triggers, infinite sacrafices, and infinite damge via a Triskelion
* Thronbite Staff + Soldevi Adnate/Priest of Yawgmoth = a lot of black mana every players turn due to Shirei's Ability
* Thornbite Staff + Poison Guy = Poisned Opponent
* Mortarpod + Poison guy = Poisoned Opponent
* Shirei, Shizo's Caretaker + Mindless Automaton/Scarecrone = Draw extra cards every turn
* Throne of Geth + Dross Scorpion = a lot of proliferating every players turn due to Shirei's ability.
- Throne of Geth + Workhorse + Pentavus/Triskelavus + Dross Scorpion = infinite Proliferate or Infinite counters on something.
* Dust bowl + animated Inkmoth Nexus/Blinkmoth Nexus/Spawning Pool + Shirei, Shizo's Caretaker = never lose the land you sac to blow up a land.
- Shirei's Oracle text has changed to "you may return that card to the battlefield" instead of "you may return that creature card to the battlefield"
* Triskelion + Shirei, Shizo's Caretaker + Sac Outlet = 2 Damage to something/someone every players turn.
* Hell's Caretaker + Bone Shredder = Bone Shredder
- or Hell's Caretaker + Bone Shredder = return Big Game Hunter and Bone Shredder at the beginning of the end step. Setting up Hell's Caretaker + Big Game Hunter = return Bone Shredder and Big Game Hunter at the beginning of the end step.
I'm sure there are more but these are what I can think of right now.
other Synergies:
- Soldevi Adnate/Priest of Yawgmoth are really good since you never really lose your guys and help you make mana.
- Junk Diver, Myr Retriever, Cadaver Imp are really helpful for getting stuff back into the in play and in the graveyard rotation. Sometimes you just need to play a guy 2 times one turn and they will help. The Artifact guys are good at reusing Expedition Map and getting back things that are blown up.
- Pilgrim's Eye is excellent in this deck. If you don't need the lands save them up to Scroll Rack away.
- Abyssal Gatekeeper is such a good card.
- Phyrexian Plaguelord and Butcher of Malakir are great at killing things that Big Game Hunter and Bone Shredder can't deal with.
- Pentavus, Triskelavus, and Marsh Flitter can make an insane amount of tokens. Genesis Chamber can make a lot but be careful not to let your opponents abuse it more than you (ie don't run it out there just to play it with nothing going on).
- Coretapper + Everflowing Chalice/Lightning Coils makes a lot of mana or dudes.
- Kuldotha Forge Master is good.
again I am sure there are more but this is all I can think of at this time.
Other Notes:
- adding poison to the deck made cut a lot of the disruption the regular version of the deck had, as well as more draw spells, and sweepers. The sweepers were actually really bad most of the time because I had more to lose than everyone else.
- Reiver Demon was really good but he got cut.

I wasn't running mortarpod until someone said "Why aren't you running mortarpod?" It never even crossed my mind to play it before.
It seemed like I had a lot more space to work with in my other build of Shirei. With needing to run the poison stuff and whatever other creatures I needed to work with Shirei it doesn;t leave much room. The most recent cards I had to cut were corpse dance, Victimize, Ichorclaw Myr, Balthor the Defiled, Reiver Demon, Ancient Craving, Infernal Tribute, Krark-Clan Ironworks, Attrition, Tainted Strike, and Phyresis. They were all good but under performed.
100 cards doesn;t stretch as far as it use to.

540 Peasant cube- Gold EditionSomething Spicygenesis chamber is bonkers in a shirei deck. my brother plays shirei and this is a total house
great fodder for clamp and you can produce an overwhelming horde of myr tokens in short order. seeing the charge counters on scepter and coils this really a no brainer addition to make that infinite turn go off. lux cannon seems good here as well with the proliferate and coretapper. that being said there are also a few changes i would make as well. with the draw power of some of your creatures the slate is really unneccisary. also null profusion is terrible get rid of it. drawback can kill you. never make your opponents job easier. where are all your tutors? diabolic, demonic, vampiric, beseech the queen? search always streamlines a deck. and playing black its mandatory. and with all the tap creatures you have a thousand-year elixir wouldnt be a bad idea as it gives powerhouse weenies like royal assasin, sorceress queen, coretapper,.......effective haste on every turn.
also the spine is a good idea. and my brother has taken to running karn, silver golem. its very versatile by making your opponents artifacts susceptable to creature destruction as well as your artifacts come back via shirei and queen. and he can block godzilla.
im sorry, i threw a lot at you..... my brother plays a shirei deck and we have put a lot of work into it and its brutal. enough poison to get the job done if need be and plenty of shirei shennanigans to be bonkers good, and even more fun to play. hope this gives you a happy day!
I run tutors...look at the list:
Beseech the Queen, Demonic Collusion, Demonic Tutor, Diabolic Intent, Diabolic Tutor, Vampiric Tutor, Liliana Vess, and Expedition Map.
I only have a about 5 dudes that could use thousand-year elixer I could see it being ok...with the guys I have I don't see it being that important but maybe. I'll think about it.
I've ran Genesis Chamber before in my non poison version of Shirei. It was ok. Core Tapper seems ok.

Hex Parasite is another possible include.

i still think coretapper is a must. easily a house with the right cards. mana tends to be a problem for him and things like everflowing chalice go really well with your proliferate and coretapper. my brother and i ran into the same problems building his version.
I want to add Everflowing Chalice just room is tight.
there are only a few cards I fear that I sun into on a regular basis.

- Null profussion
- Walking Atlas
- Slate of Ancestry
- Stuffy Doll
- Swamp
+ Whispering Specter
+ Phyrexia's Core
+ Coretapper
+ Thousand-Year Elixer
+ Spine of Ish Sah
ultimately I would like to try out Krark-Clan Ironworks and Infernal Tribute if the Spine works out well. Just trying out the Spine and the Elixer. Lux Cannon might be pretty good and I already mentioned Everflowing Chalice. Just not enough room. I always want to be able to play Nether Traitor and Reassembling Skeleton like in my other Shirei deck but there just isn't the room.
Things that could potentially go:
Workhorse - it is so good though
Hatred - I've had the deck this way for a while and have never used it (it is better I suppose in the deck than the already cut Phyresis and Tainted Strike).
Blade of the Bloodchief - cool but not all that effective

Creatures (most of which will never be tapped due to Shirei being out):
Coretapper
Kuldotha Forge Master (Seems super good with this)
Plague Myr
Scarecrone
Other Artifacts:
The non-creature artifacts and the Kuldotha Forgemaster really make me want to add the card. With a Kuldotha Forgemaster out you can just get it and then go crazy (ie Coretapper/Magistrate's Scepter ). More Proliferating, more mana, extra untaps from Thousand-Year Elixir, extra taps with the Lux Cannon, multiple Decimator Web activations, scroll racking away crappy lands your hand fills up with when you have Pilgrim's Eye out. It all seems pretty good. I think it hoses Helm of Possession.
Any thoughts on this?

Decimator Web is ok. Usually I usually try to poison a few people and kill the rest with regular damage and the Decimator Web (AKA Noob Cannon) gets a poison counter on someone so I can proliferate then to death. The worst/most dangerous part about it is that it mills cards. I wish it didn't do that. It is fun to kill people with Poison from a Noob Cannon.
