Ok so I have reallllly been enjoying my Marton list and I figure why not have a second mono R list for kicks. I wanted something different so I went away from tokens this time and thought a mono Red control list would be fun and challenging.
I didnt want to do some of the really overdone commanders in Red so I finally decided on Kumano, Master Yamabushi. He is a commander who makes good use out of big mana which a red control list is going to want. Anyways here is my first spin off on the list.
Ok I really had to think for a while about my choice of commander and why I was picking him. Some of the reasons behind picking him instead of Olivia for instance were that the mono colored fact made it a bit easier to use mana doublers, Olivia will bring down a lot of hate for fear of the theft part of her, and Olivia cannot hit players with her abilities. I need to generate a lot of red mana for either one of them and I just foresee a lot of issues in generating as large of quantities in dual color to be honest.
I also play Weiss Schwarz, Chaos, Vanguard and Wixoss.
Weiss Schwarz Sets
Accel World, Angel Beats, Familiar of Zero, Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet, Guilty Crown, Kill La Kill, Robotics;Notes, Sword Art Online.
Chaos Partners
Arpeggio of Blue Steel: Iona, Kirishima, Kongou.
Dangan Ronpa: Asahina, Togami.
Freezing: Vibration: Chiffon, Satelizer.
Vanguard Clans Favoured
Angel Feather, Dark Irregulars, Genesis, Neonecter, Pale Moon, Shadow Paladins, Tachikaze.
Use SDT and Strangehold, both will increase power level a lot. Also, have you considered All is Dust? We are talking mono red here.
Those are probably good calls.
As for All is Dust, I considered it but then moved to Karn Liberated. The problem is that I actually have a lot of creature control built into the deck through means of burning them. I feel like All is Dust will only pick up planeswalkers and enchantments and I just felt Karn did it better for me.
I will think about it a bit more but for now I think I will pass on the Dust and add SDT and Stranglehold.
EDIT: I might also add a few fetchlands just to mix things up for the top.

You should still run Urabrask and Dragon Mage too, but you'd need to cut other things.
Wheel of Fate seems iffy too potentially since it can be responded as they have ample warning.
I know... I am really not a fan of the Fate but I figured I wanted more card draw... I suppose I could pull the Mage in for it but with so many less haste outlets I sort of wonder if he will connect or not.
Also my issues with Urabrask are that most of the deck doesnt really do anything with haste. I have a few things that are sort of cute but most of the deck does very little with haste so he is mainly just to tap things down.
I will try swapping the mage in for the Wheel of Fate

Tapping things down can be pretty good, that stops certain generals just rampaging over you or Avenger of Zendikar winning turn it is cast (or fetched with Prime Time).

I just dont see much opposing haste that I would have enough issues for his inclusion though...
If this deck was trying to put more pressure out by dropping and swinging with creatures I could probably see him a bit more but I am sort of in for a long slow ping them to death style of game.
EDIT: It occurred to me that I should likely consider running Grafted Exoskeleton in here. I do so much damage throwing that it would be fairly easy to just toss 10 infect at someone.
Gauntlet of Might is a $$$ issue. I do want to get one though as I have wanted one for my Marton deck as well. If I manage to get one I will put it in one of the lists and proxy it in the other. Generally speaking though I don't proxy expensive cards unless I already own a copy.
Furnace of Rath... I considered this one a bit and I might have to consider it a bit more yet... It is a double edged sort of deal but I could see it having enough potential to at least get tested. Obviously amazing but I see a lot of creature heavy decks in my meta so I have my own worries.
Heartstone Good call I didn't even think about this card... I will try to squeeze it in the list I think I have enough good abilities that I want to use to make the list with it.
EDIT 2:Heartless Hidetsugu would be another good add that sort of fits the theme of the deck... I need to make some cuts to get some of these ideas in here...
EDIT 3: Currently looking at possible cuts; Tahngarth, Talruum Hero and Anger are on the chopping block. Unfortunately for Tahngarth most things I would have an issue with are big fatties and he just doesn't nicely deal with them. Anger is on the chopping block due to not having a lot of creatures and a lot of the ones I do have dont really care if they have haste so I would say I even care about haste with only like perhaps 5-8 creatures in the list. I might have to cut back on one of the spell copy spells as well...
I been meaning to make a Kumano deck for the longest time! What a coincidence! :]
Your list looks mighty powerful, seeing you covered all the strengths of red in your deck. What do you think ofButcher Orgg? Goes well with your deathtouch equipments, potential Hex on a stick.
Emmara is like the worst parts of Legends and Homelands got pregnant, aborted the fetus, tossed it in the trashcan, set it on fire and wrapped the corpse in a Dragon's Maze pack wrapper.
Cool deck. Have you condsidered any earthquake type effects since red doesn't have a lot of sweepers? I have also seen many a game ended by earthquake as a finisher. I know you have comet storm but it seems overpriced for the effect.
I love the list and general selection, I think it's cool that MRC is getting some play. I think it's worth mentioning that Starstorm is just a great oh crap card, and isn't used much in this archtype...my deck included, I might pick another up lol.
I keep thinking of things you could really use, only to see you already heve them in the deck. Only thing I can really think of is cards like Doubling Cube over some of the weaker mana rocks you run.
Well... I guess this is my proposed changes as of right now:
CUTS: Anger the creature count is sort of going lower and I think he might need to make his way out. I honestly dont have that much that haste really makes or breaks in here.
Tahngarth, Talruum Hero too small of a body for EDH. There just isnt enough that he can fight and kill without dying as well.
Wurmcoil Engine a fun and good card all in all however I am not running the Goblin Welder to really maximize him.
Bogardan Hellkite 5 damage isnt that impressive and other than using Kiki-Jiki with him I am overall not that impressed by him.
Reverberate Just a casualty of cuts. I like these effects but I still have 2 others in the list and I have other things I want to add.
ADDS: Heartstone a good way to do tons of damage with the commander. I might look for a little more utility that works with this though.
Furnace of Rath Double damage whohoo. I will give it a shot at the very least.
Heartless Hidetsugu He punches the life totals. I am not 100% sold on him but he could be cute to try.
Starstorm Wrath effect. It can be cycled if I want and it is instant speed. If I have problems with it I can always try the new 13 dmg one.
All is Dust A wrath that hits enchantments for me. I don't really like hitting artifacts as it screws with my mana stones.

Give Heartless lifelink and he won't be cute anymore lol. How does the deck play for you? Also, I'm sure you're very aware, give your general deathtouch and it's 2 mana to exile target creature which is why he was in my deck.
Well I did some playing with the list and I cant come up with exactly all of the changes I went through but it looks a bit something like this:
CUT: Goblin Sharpshooter it is cute but it like only works against token decks and utility dorks. I want it to work out but I cant really combo it with my commander because Kumano exiles anything he hits so the sharpshooter wont untap
Anger There just werent enough creatures I care if they have haste. This deck is a bit more control driven and so it has less creatures in it that want to turn sideways.
Bogardan Hellkite 6 dmg is the new sweat spot for commander since titans have come in and this guy just doesnt hit hard enough in my mind. He is fun if you are playing against token and he eats 5 of them in one shot but meh.
Scythe of the Wretched again it has some issues with the fact that Kumano exiles on killing and I have been culling back my other creatures enough that I am a bit leery of keeping too much creature equipment. So this one is going as deathtouch feels a lot stronger for equipment.
1 Mountain I figure I have enough ramp that I can afford to go down to 39 land.
ADD: Goblin Welder I pulled out a goblin and honestly I have a lot of artifacts in here I would like the opportunity to keep in so I will add this bugger back in in an attempt to give myself a chance to rez the artifacts I need.
Junk Diver there are a lot of artifacts in this list that I would like the option to keep around if possible.
Heartstone sadly there arent as many interactions in the list that this works with as I had hoped for but it is still probably worth it just for Kumano and the Obsidian Fireheart.
Furnace of Rath we have a lot of direct damage in this deck so hopefully this doesnt backfire but I am willing to test it out and see how it goes.
Starstorm instant speed wrath option that can be cycled into something else if necessary.
Shattering Spree I needed some more artifact removal so I figured I might as well a fast efficient large effect like this is nice.
Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre big old fatty who destroys something on cast. I had some issues including him such as if someone uses Bribery to steal him out of my deck but honestly he hits like a truck and this deck is all about the big mana so I want to give him a shot.
Well that is all that I am changing for now. I might have missed a few changes but I don't know... I considered running a few other cards such as Relic of Progenitus and Grab the Reins which might still make their ways into the list but for now I am mostly happy with it.
I still need to proxy this list up but considering how fun it looks I want to get it sleeved up soon. Last week was the cascade dude but I gave up on him. Hopefully I can get this playable by this weekend.

I have officially moved to MTGNexus. I just wanted to let people know as my response time to salvation decks being bumped is very hit or miss.
I did actually proxy this list up and I ran it for 2 games this last weekend. I somehow managed to win both of the games... It was odd though as I dont know how I managed to pull them off. Both games were against the same decks Karador, Ghost Chieftain, and Hazezon Tamar.
Game 1: A nice sort of hand with 3 lands, two mana stones one at 2 mana and one at 4, A Wheel of Fortune and a Relic of Progenitus. I start the game going strong but by the time I have dumped my hand I notice that Hazazon is stuck on like 2 land with no way off of it and that wheel is going to give him a big boost... Also Godo manages his way into my hand arround this time so I stall it to drop him into play grabbing a SoF&F. Next turn I get a Gauntlet of Might and stall that wheel again. I strap the sword on godo and go to town on Karindor's hand. Next turn I draw SoF&I and strap it to godo as well... Godo is punching Karindor in the face for 20 a turn at this point lol.
Karindor manages to pop off an Akroma's Vengeance right as I am about to murder him next turn. This keeps him at like 12 life or something. I have like no board left though as he owns my face on this wrath.
I peel a Gamble which I tutor up Obsidian Fireheart with. Karindor has moaning well in play so I just start all of his lands on fire and once I reach like 8 of them he cant keep up with the loss in a turn and dies.
By this point Hazezon has dug himself out of his slump and has a Mirari's Wake in play for stupid mana which I cant really answer at the moment. He stacks enchantments out against me which I cant do didly and starts into a Pandamonium bs sort of stuff with Privileged Position in play.
I have nothing else to do so I pop my wheel finally as I am dying crazy like to his enchants. I manage to get Ulamog which I pile down on him for 10 damage. Next turn I drop Vicious Shadows down with an Inferno Titan and just start slamming him for damage.
Luckily for me he didn't notice he might have been able to murder me if he had gone all in with his eldrazi monument but in the end I took him out with my superior board position. Stupid Pandimonium...
Game 2: This game gets off nicely as I have a bunch of stones and I sit back after burning most of my hand. I use my Reiterate to piggy back a Worldly Tutor into a Duplicant to remove a Spearbreaker Behemoth that likely would have cost me the game.
I drop a Ruination which drops Hazazon down to 1 land and Karindor down to 3. From here I just start swinging my guys everywhere as it takes my opponents several turns to recover. Hazazon recovers but not quickly enough as I get him low and my commander has a Darksteel Plate on him. He gets to the point as he is setting up that I can kill him with direct damage off my commander. At that point he dumps his 7 tokens into play, gives them haste, +5/+5, flying, indestructable, and haste in one shot of like 3 buffs. He cant swing them at me though as I will just murder them so he decides that second place is better than last and kills Karindor for me
The last game probably wouldnt have been mine except for the fact that Hazazon helped me out.
Anyways the deck is fun to play but I seriously have some issues playing a control list that cant answer enchantments like at all without taking itself out as well... The card draw is also a real issue as there were several times I just ran out of things to do. I probably will leave this list alone for now but it was sort of fun to play. I think it would be a hard list to scale into a larger game without making some allies for yourself. For now I think I will put the deck away as even though it was fun there were too many issues that I couldn't really answer.

I have officially moved to MTGNexus. I just wanted to let people know as my response time to salvation decks being bumped is very hit or miss.
I had a nice win in Vegas last weekend and I'm thinking of building a red deck. I'm a little aprehensive due to the stigma of red supposedly being terrible. From first hand experience how does MRC control perform? I ask because if I'm going to probably try a controlish type build.
I read you mentioning draw is a problem. That might be an obstacle.
I honestly did have some serious issues when trying mono R control. The biggest obsticles you will have are likely to be:
1) Enchantments can be rough. I happen to have a few players who play a lot of enchantments. The game I listed above the Hazezon Tamar player had like 5 enchantments in play by the end of the game and the only reason I won that one was a bit of luck as well as him not being the best player. If you were to have to play against like a pillowfort enchantment type of deck that would be less than fun. Sometimes you have to bank on someone else answering the enchantments for you.
2) The card draw can totally suck. Run a ton of mana stones and a ton of draw. I dont think you can regret loading up on the two of them as red can be really finicky. You can overcome the card draw issue some but the draw options that mono red has feels a bit weak in comparison but by no means is there no options so just work off of what it has.
I also felt that MRC sort of moves a lot faster than other control decks I have run before. I am constantly trying to drop my opponents life totals which isnt as big in other control colors. By no means is MRC unplayable but you will have to deal with the fact that you dont have the best means to blow up anything. You might consider some of the destroy any permenant type of effects such as Spine of Ish Sah as blowing up anything is nice.
As another side not indestructible can be an issue... I might plan some sort of out for answering them such as Grab the Reigns, Karn Liberated, Duplicant and what not. My opponent would have just owned me all game with Spearbreaker Behemoth if I hadn't gotten lucky off of copying a tutor for my duplicant.
MRC is definitely a challenge but it was sort of fun in its own way... I put this deck down simply because I saw myself being annoyed by these obstacles a bit too much. It was a decent list though and obviously it won me those 2 games... perhaps by fluke but it was decent.

I read you mentioning draw is a problem. That might be an obstacle.
