My old Mayael Deck. It wins multi-player quite frequently, but do not bother dueling...it WILL lose. Looking to improve it somehow.
I made this deck for fun and because it gave me something to do with all these cheap big creatures. I have slowly trimmed the creature count, but it still have quite a bit of a punch to it. Also, it is a cheap deck to purchase!
Looks like you only have maybe 15 creatures that Mayael can fiddle with, definitely add at least 10 more or so. Might even want to double it to ~30 creatures. Gives you a much higher chance of not whiffing on Mayael's ability.
I used to run 20-25 5/x creatures, but I was having huge mana problems. By cutting it down and adding some sick enchantments, I got alot more mileage. Anyways, I almost never get Mayael's ability off before turn 4 so by that time there is about a 80%-90% chance of hitting something. I think it has whiffed about 1/15 times. (but believe me, those times suck).
However, I am looking to make this deck better, so do you have suggestions for creatures that I can put in and what would you cut.
I know there is a card that is better than Where Ancients tread and I will be replacing it as soon as I remember what card it was.
I would personally drop most of the mana creatures for green ramp spells. Nature's Lore, etc. If you go back a couple pages in the main EDH forum, you should find a "Best Green Ramp spells" thread. Also, I think it's RaikouRider who has a primer for Mayael, check it out.
Also would have to second the suggestion of adding more sorcery speed effects instead of creatures for mana. Things like Explosive Vegetation and Kodama's Reach come to mind right away. However, Bloom Tender is one of the best things you can do turn two. Would probably cut Knotvine, Treespeaker and probably the signet.
EDH is like French fries: some people like waffle cut, crinkle cut, or plain old straight cut, and while there's slight flavor difference and personal preference, at the end of the day they're still fries.
