to quote the Cranial Insertion article on the subject:
That would seem to indicate that in point of fact, no it will not flip if it is the fourth spell played in a given turn (not nearly as good as I thought it was initially).
That example is not a good one. In that instance the fourth spell is the force of will. Had he cast Lotus Petal, Dark Ritual, and Nantuko Shade with no interferance he could cast Erayo as his fourth...and flip. It looks for cards played not cards successfully cast.

so Erayo can count as your fourth spell played and get flipped..
can i just ask how come everyone plays with snow covered islands, yes they are cooler but gameplay wise how are they better than regular islands?
Also, with Snow-Covered lands, you can feel like a cheater when you play Extraplanar Lens, because if you're opponents don't have Snow-Covered lands of the same basic type, then you're getting the benefit and they aren't, as the Lens refers to the name of the basic land card! Pretty neat trick.

technically... this is the official ruling care of Crystal Keep:
The game looks back in time to count spells played that turn. So if this card is the third played in the turn, then when you play one more there will have been four and it will trigger. It cannot, however, trigger on itself being the fourth since it will not be in play at the time that spell is played. [D'Angelo 2007/09/08]
Simply put, even IF he had cast Lotus Petal, Dark Ritual, and Nantuko Shade that turn... he could not play Erayo as the fourth spell that turn and automatically flip it, as Erayo CANNOT count itself towards its flip effect. Additionally, Erayo, Soratami Ascendant is worded in such a way that even if a Force of Will is cast in response to the third spell in a turn, then when you play the Erayo after the Force of Will resolves, it WILL still flip as the Force of Will is the fourth spell cast that turn. It does not take into consideration whether a spell resolves, it merely cares whether the spell was or was not cast.

no its meant for multiplay, the erayo+arcane laboratory lock locks down everyone, the point of the deck is counter any infinite combos that would make me lose until i get the erayo+lab lock out

well, it locks down everyone EXCEPT people who are playing with cards that cannot be countered

there are only about 15 of those in the entire game and no one I know has more than 2 in their deck:facepalm:
26 actually though granted some of them don't truely avoid the lock, the majority do. And all anyone REALLY has to do to avoid the lock properly, is run maybe 2 or 3 creatures with the "can't be countered" text on them as well as Boseiju, Who Shelters All and a few spells that avoid being countered
Personally I am seriously thinking of cutting Kaervek the Merciless from one of my decks just so I can run the Red Akroma to avoid this kind of issue, and am already planning on adding Boseiju to the deck list

I know if anyone in my playgroup got close to Erayo lock, someone would transmute for Boseiju, Who Shelters All and find a way to get rid of it, or get a Vexing Shusher out or something. All decks should have some kind of answer.
