I think personally before you start building an EDH deck you have to kind of "Map" out what you are trying to do before you actually get a list together. It should also be noted that most EDH decks eventually become like a fingerprint of someones play style so you should also evaluate how you play and like to play before accepting advice from anyone about tuning your deck.
Things to consider:
* Early, Mid, and Late Game Play
* The most powerful decks in your play setting and what answers you can provide.
* What you can do to keep the deck constantly improving and not allowing it to become stale.
* What makes magic fun to you and what you can do to make every game fun, because its hard to learn when youre not having fun in a game.
* LOTS AND LOTS!!!! of Testing either by your self and/or with others.
* I would do lots of opening hand draw testing with a deck like Doran, If youre going to have a plan you need to add cards to make it happen at least 3/4 of the time you play with it.
Personally it seems like you intend on blowing stuff up then beating face with Doran, Not a bad plan... But you will most certainly always lose to control with that strategy and dont even think about over powering Rofellos or even like a Scion of the Ur Dragon Deck. I would just play with that and decide what you want to do after like 15 or so games and address your strengths and weaknesses and go from there. Hope that helps... I actually show alot of people how to build decks at my store for beginner players.
