Sorry if hes been discussed before but I don't think i've seen him in a marath list before, how has the Wanderer Bard been here?
He's been played a good bit. I play him at the moment but I'm really split. He's really mana intensive and to combo takes three turns. Doesn't do anything the turn he comes out, dies to Lightning Bolt, Anger of the Gods, Slagstorm, etc. before untapping...if he lives for a turn my best option has always been for Benevolent Bodyguard to protect him/another (likely don't need a dork at this point), then Bloom Tender (though if you have Bloom, getting Stoneforge Mystic, Gaddock Teeg, Voice of Resurgence, etc. can be great), then next turn combo out with Village Bell-Ringer. Only problem is, it's a very fragile combo, very vunerable to disruption...if he could be used turn he came out that'd be great but idk. What do others think?
From my experience playing vs marath, i think hes quite good. Of course he gets removed easily but what doesnt? He is a creature that needs to be removed asap, if left unchecked, it can get pretty n asty soon
Right. I guess it's just the fact he doesn't do a whole lot until the third turn he's out. Third turn he can get a lot of relevant targets. He's still in for now but I would consider cutting him if need be. Especially with the Bellower needing a spot, the Fierce Empath which I want to use with him, and (imo) Evolutionary Leap all warranting spots/testing. Leap has proven to be pretty solid so far in my testing.
Hey guys I finally got ahold of a Dryad Arbor after months of searching for one. I'm just wondering what cool interactions you all know of with that and the other cards in our deck.
Altar of Bone is another great card in Marath that sees only a little play, and has been great for me. Any thoughts regarding it?
Craterhoof Behemoth is an awesome card, but we have lower casting cost ways to win the game. We just don't need him. We aren't like Prossh where we are guaranteed to have token out for Craterhoof, for us it takes a bit of set up. I think its a totally viable strategy if you don't have all the combo cards that most Marath decks are running, but it's not our most competitive option.
Shusher is fine, Grand Abolisher is worth consideration as well but I don't think either warrants a spot unless you play only blue control...I've tested both and wasn't wow'd by either.
Evolutionary Leap doesn't win a spot IMO. We play too many creatures. I can see it being great in other decks but I'm not making tokens enough with Marath for it to be consistently good.
Tricks with Dryad Arbor? Well GSZ for 0 is why it's run, IMO. Gives us a 7th T1 dork. Is it worth it? Yeah, as it also fuels Gaea's Cradle, holds a Skullclamp, pitches to Survival of the Fittest...idk not CRUCIAL to the deck but worth playing.
Magus of the Moon? Yikes. Yeah it's fine with Skyshroud Elf but how often are you going to get both at once and if you're putting your tutors towards getting those two cards...I don't like it but report back with results...could be wrong about it.
I didn't mean take out voice or bloom tender...I meant fetch with bellower. Empath...hm ok I'll think about replacing him. Gonna test a bit more maybe.
By 4 mana I usually want to be doing something more aggressive than Simulacrum, I've had him sit in my had not being cast more times than I like.
Dryad has forestwalk which is great with Marath counters against a lot of opponents. It comes down a turn faster, and gets me forests instead of basics. But doesn't play as well with Birthing Pod.
How important do you guys find Stoneforge Mystic to be? I've done very well without her so far but I obviously want to put her in eventually. Umezawa's Jitte is a card I've wanted for a very long time and I am leaning more towards getting that over mystic, but I feel like mystic will make my deck better over all.
Just looking for input and experience from people who have either or both in their deck.
Yes, Lyserg is right: Jitte of course is a good card no matter what but it is very subpar in this deck. Not what this deck really needs help doing. Stoneforge Mystic is worth it for Skullclamp but don't forget Basilisk Collar which is the aggro death necklace. I personally also run Sword of Feast and Famine as untapping the lands is extremely powerful and protections are not irrelevant.
VBR is also the cheapest Kiki-Jiki combo piece, can be cast opponents EOT before casting Kiki-Jiki, enables a third-turn combo with Yisan, and combos with himself and Splinter Twin (something Resto can't do). So yeah, VBR is good not even considering 4 toughness and combat shenanigans.
Will be attending a major tournament tomorrow with 40+ players. Will be back for comments on the above cards and for a short report right after the event.
I don't think any belong in the deck. Nissa mayyyybe could replace Wood Elves but very different cards and I'm not sure there's much upside to Nissa over Elves. Titania is probably good enough but I don't know what would be removed. 5CMC is a lot just for value (getting a Cradle back is nice though). Oh i see you're going aggro...idk maybe Kytheon could be good, too. He's good in aggro in general lol though you'll want to play a dork T1 before Kytheon.
I think kytheon and baloth are no-go in this deck. Seems difficult to flip gideon and baloth is quite expensive, wh ywouldnt you play primeval titan instead? Or craterhoof, althought more expensive than baloth, it wins you the game on the spot most of the time.
Nisa and Titania are probably good enough for this deck

What I'm trying to achieve is to have a start with T1 dorks but with continuous flow of low cmc value creatures to start a hefty pressure with Marath, Will of the Wild.
Kytheon, Hero of Akros and Nissa, Vastwood Seer are value in itself and are common targets for kill cards that normally goes to Marath. These cards can also avoid wrath effects by turning into a walker giving us a chance to avoid over-committing our plays and emptying our hands.
Tutoring for Thunderfoot Baloth seems game when planned well mid-game ie: EOT tokens + tutor for Baloth for all in attack main phase. Same goes with Titania, Protector of Argoth, gives us value every time with big monstrous creatures that are hard to deal with. 8+ fetches + Crop Rotation, Wasteland, etc. gives us enough fuel to get tokens whenever she lands.
If all else fail, we have our combo pieces to come back and win anyway. These are not bullet-proof methods but kind of puts us ahead whenever we land value creatures that are 2 for 1 most of the time.
Hey man it sounds good, give it a try and see how it goes! Might be refreshing to get a new take on Marath! I haven't seen too many different builds outside of the "normal" lists besides the enchantress build when he first came out but it certainly could be time to give something new a try.
After testing Titania for the last last week, I really think it should in for three major reasons: it's ability to easily get casted and create huge board prescience but more importantly it's ability to recur Crafle back in s pinch. That alone warrants the addition of the card. Any card that makes sure we have Cradle out AND is tutorable is a huge upgrade for this deck. Plus, with Wasteland in the grave you can sometimes steal games just which her ability alone.

Do it; the new program is dope. Nice to have you back mate

I mean the thing about the deck is that you have so many amazing threats that if you answer one of them, then they have to deal with another. Sisay gives insane card advantage if left unchecked but it also get soak up another removal. It's not a bad idea. It definitely finds cards we want to be using to combo.

I have been tweaking my deck a little bit, I have been having some trouble against heavy blue decks. I've already picked up a Vexing Shusher to add, but what do you all think of the following cards: Savage Summoning - It seems alright, but I think it will prove to be too narrow/situational in testing. I am going to test it out regardless. I think if it cantripped it would be much better, however. Thalia, Guardian of Thraben - Seems good as it does not effect many of our spells; however the ones it does effect might be too much at an extra 1. Plus is kills Geist without dying.
Also, I have to ask: is Voice of Resurgence really as good as it looks? I know everyone runs it, and I was looking at picking one up, but I'd like to read how it ends up working in practice.

You hate heavy blue? Get VoR. Trust me you will not regret having it one single time (unless you're already losing, I guess :p). Of course it can be PtE/StP but it's going to force awkward plays for the opponent and give great value many times. For only 2 mana. Thalia is good but I'm not 100 percent convinced...others have used her in Marath to great success though. Shusher, I guess depends how bad blue is but I think Grand Abolisher is generally better (although the promo Shusher is AWESOME looking!).

Woodland Bellower is most definitely worth the spot. Even for a Voice of Resurgence/Bloom Tender it's great value. I get Fierce Empath if possible and get Primeval Titan. OR a Reclamation Sage in a pinch can be sweet. Has anybody else tested and what are your thoughts? Love it so far.
