so no one has anything to say about Urabrask? From what I've seen on the internet he's only been made into subpar beginner/budget builds and hasnt been taken seriously for competitive play. Does anyone agree with this or thinks he has potential?
the problem is that although Urabrask may be a good card (I personally dont think he is amazing) his color is the weakest in the format, and you can't splash other colors to help, red has a problem drawing cards, and when it does you have to discard everything you're holding, it also has problems dealing with creatures that it cant lightning bolt or shock to death.
That isnt to say he wouldnt make a decent/fun aggro deck, but I don't think he would make it into the "Competitive" category.

But Akroma mono red seems to be top tier and highly competitive. Im not saying just swap urbarask for akroma, (because that would defeat the whole point of playing akroma red), but it seems that if her builds can work via tempo gaming and mana denial, why can't urbarask do the same? More recently red has been getting a bit of love from things like hoarding dragon, invader parasite, sorcerer's strongbox, that help supplement the decent size of colourless sources of card advantage. But I suppose it's still a long shot.
Anyway we can update this list ? I don't see Doran, Edric or Clique on this list.
I think the original intent of this thread was to highlight lesser known, well built competitive decks as opposed to the top decks that everyone knew about, Doran, Zur, Clique etc.
Original intent aside, I think Khymera is busy with Med School now so I don't know how frequent updates are going to be.
Yah I dont believe this is supposed to be an all inclusive list of the top tier lists...just a guide to go for to get you moving into competitive 1v1 vs random multi-player.
It is very unlikely this thread is going to get another big update. As Narglfrob said (since I mentioned it to him at first), Khymera told me he got accepted to medical school and is going this school year. It's going to severely limit his access to MTG, if not cut him off completely.
Numot, the Devastator is a powerful deck for 1v1 EDH. It's multiplayer balanced, but if you switch some of the hate spells for a few more political spells, than this would be fun deck to play in multiplayer as well. I used your build as a foundation for my build...only a few minor changes, but it's still very powerful.
I know it was stated that Khymera is likely not going to update this thread any longer but I was wondering if anyone was still thinking about taking over or at least updating the lists.
Its a really good resource for starting 1v1 players.
I'm not sure where else to ask, so I'll just follow the new guy and ask, "Is Doran, The Siege Tower a viable general to use?" He seems pretty good to me, but then again, I'm running a fairly casual aggro/control build, so...

Doran is one of (if not the) best aggro generals available.
Yeah, i'd say he's viable.
Where should I ask about playstyles and such? Like, right now I'm running a deck which is very heavy in cards like Grizzled Leotao and Jaddi Lifestrider, which become huge with Doran, and Eland Umbra and Hero's Resolve, which make other dudes huge with Doran. Is this a bad idea?

Yes.
With every EDH deck, you want to run as little cards as possible that become very bad without your general. Otherwise you are making it very easy for your opponent to beat you. Jaddi Lifestrider is bad even as an 8/8 for 5 mana. You want to play small efficient creatures, cheap removal, and hand disruption.

Yes. You don't want to be relying on Doran to win the game, because Doran + a sword or Slagwurm Armor or something else (or just Doran by himself) does it much faster than any number of creatures. Both plans leave you vulnerable to Hinder, so you should play cards that can win on their own, not just ones that win when Doran's out.
What I was playing with Doran is in the spoiler below.
It's a little over 100 cards, so things need to be cut. The manabase is not ideal. It's missing cards from M12 and Innistraad, but the only must include that comes to mind is Avacyn's Pilgrim . It's still very very strong.
I am a newer player looking to get into EDH 1v1, and I started in SOM, but came from other cards games such as Yu-Gi-Oh, VS System, and World of Warcraft TCG.
I am interested in the Nath of the Gilt-Leaf deck because it uses a lot of the play style elements from deck themes I have used in the past.
It looks as though it's been a WHILE since the deck has been updated though.
Are there obvious inclusions/exclusions from the new sets that I have been missing? I do understand that the thread starter went to med school and has been unable to update his thread, but do cards like...
Night Terrors, Sheoldred, any of the new commander cards (other than the obvious Command Tower..I think a Basic Swamp would come out for it?), Green Sun's Zenith, or anything else that I haven't thought of get placed in this deck?
If any of these cards are better than what's currently in the deck (surely the deck's received some upgrades since M11, right?) then what would be good/obvious places to cut cards?
Any and all help will be greatly appreciated, thanks!
I don't know if this has been suggested before, but perhaps we could update the OP with the best of the Commander Generals. Animar and Edric are both very competitive, IMO.
I feel like the OP should be edited with links to the respective players' threads, that way they update when the player makes changes (very few of the decks listed are current).
I also feel like Animar and Edric lists should be posted, as well as Karador, if any are available with tournament histories.

I know Clique is purposely not on this list because Clique is usually banned for being too strong in 1v1.
