Ertai's Study of Lesser Wizards: A cEDH Metagame Analysis
,,
A good day to you, my cEDH friends!
I've just released an updated Quarterly Report for "Ertai's Study of Lesser Wizards". This report is designed to try and give an approximation of what the cEDH meta looks like on a quarterly basis so that you can tune your decks accordingly. Its 200 pages of charts and tables covering statistics of 59 cEDH decks. You can download the report and/or all the compiled data at the following links, sorted by Quarter of each Calendar year.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The program I wrote scrapes data from the Cockatrice and TappedOut databases primarily, so the data is a reflection of these two sources. This may not be an accurate reflection of what you specifically see in your playgroup and is more of a generalized representation of what decklists are represented according to these two sources.
2019 Quarter 1 Analysis - here's the full report. A sampling of the top cards by color identity is available here.
2019 Quarter 2 Analysis - here's the full report. A sampling of the top cards by color identity is available here.
2019 Quarter 3 Analysis - coming at a later date.
Happy Reading! Any and all comments/critiques are appreciated!
Like a boss! With your permission, I'd like to try and format it to MTGSal coding sometime and create a separate post OR edit this one so that it can be a running tab of the metagame and meta card choices. This kind of information is awesome and deeply appreciated.
I tried downloading your work into Excel and Word, and I'm having some difficulty doing so. I'd like to be able to transpose the pdf summary you included as a series of spoilers so that your work is easily accessible to the MTGSal community here. Lots of clicking and downloading otherwise, which makes the information a tad difficult to access.
Yeah, the first one I did, I loaded it onto Google docs but it was even harder to get the data files. I had to use tab separated values (tsv) because of all the commas in the card names. So I just zipped up the data files into "Q1 Data.zip" at https://github.com/TemporalInept/ESoLW/blob/master/Q1 Data.zip, just download and extract on your local computer. As for the document itself, I'll look into. I'm not using windows so I don't know how easy/hard it is to convert the document to word.
Eh, anything that converts the PDF into an edit-able format will be sufficient. I essentially need to be able to copy and paste it into the MTGSal coding platform is all.
I'll try unzipping the files via the link there. I'll chime in if I have tech difficulties!
Hey Temporal Inept, I wanted to reach out and ask if you've done a Q2 analysis yet? I'll be editing your original post and title to more accurately capture the information that you're providing here.
EDIT: I edited the OP post to make it more visually appealing and easier to navigate.
I have it ready to go and was thinking of a June release in order to allow the surveyed decks time to update. I was hoping to get a mtgsalvation format or at least html but am running into difficulties doing so. I think it will be ready for Q3 though.
