Just to clarify if I cast Chancellor of Spires with Volo guide to monsters on the field creating a copy on the stack. Can I
1. Target the same spell with both Chancellor of Spires - Token ETB's targets say an extra turn spell in opponents graveyard, spell goes on the stack and resolves before original Chancellor hits fields and goes in opponents graveyard since chancellor of spires doesn't exile the spells. Original Chancellor ETB's and targets same spell which is back in the opponents graveyard giving me two extra turns.
2. Boardwipe before the original Chancellor of Spires ETBS. This means I would use the token copy which resolves first to target a wrath of God in an opponents graveyard. The spell goes on the stack and resolves before original Chancellor ETB's clearing the field of creatures including my token but leaving the original Chancellor to resolve unharmed by the wipe and getting its own ETB trigger etc.
yes and yes. chancellor allows you to circumvent timing restrictions so you can do both things. note that some instant/sorceries might impose casting restrictions by themselves that will prevent you from casting them or there might be static effects that will also prevent such shenanigans.
Awesome. Thank you so much. I feel like Chancellor of Spires is underrated. If you can clone or bounce it, I feel there are a good number of scenarios in which it becomes better than Diluvian Primordial.
that's because both are just a big body with prohibitive casting cost and very good ability. unfortunately they decided to nerf that ability by making cc unacceptable and tried to offset this by giving them a big body. this does not really work when compared to whatever else you can cast for 7.
if you can cheat it into play, preferably at instant speed, it's awesome. otherwise both will not do enough to justify spending that amount of mana. i have used primordial before in mill decks that needed some support in graveyard hate department (you don't want your opponents to cast commit//memory but you do not want to cast it yourself either) where i had multiple ways of reanimating it. you cannot use sphinx like this but i think it could be used in mimeoplasm where free mill at the start is useful. that interaction with volo is also very nice.
