Alright, so I am familiar the banned list in multiplayer commander. I know of the existence of the french banned list being geared towards 1v1 play unlike the "standard commander" banned list. My Question is what is the official US 1v1 banned list? I saw the MTGO ban, but does that apply to irl games? Also what is the duel commander banned list is that another way of saying 1v1 or is that a 2v2 format? Sorry for the dumb questions, but wanted to make sure.
French is just a name for the duel commander format because it was created by French players.
A little while back, there was actually a split between the French committee and a separate group of Duel Commander players who have referred to themselves as Italian Commander, or Leviathan. The main distinction between the two is that Leviathan/Italian Commander is played at 30 life, while French/Duel Commander is played at 20 life.
There is also cEDH, which is a term used to refer to competitive Commander played via the multiplayer banlist.

Personally, I find that while I enjoy a relatively competitive multiplayer EDH environment, either of Leviathan or French are more appealing as a format for 1v1 or strictly competitive play due to the balance of the banlist and approach to considering which cards to ban and, in particular, the lack of Sol Ring, Mana Crypt, and certain fast tutors in the formats. But I still enjoy multiplayer EDH quite a bit, despite my misgivings about what I perceive as flaws. Your mileage may vary.
In my experience, most people make decks with the multiplayer banlist in mind. If there are only two of you, you play with a multiplayer banlist anyway. Bonus points when you are 3 or more.
Otherwise, you have to change your decks depending on the situation, and that's annoying.
The thing to remember is that the French rules are a competitive banlist. The French banlist changes all the time, and it is only used for tournament magic. So, if you are playing in a tournament, double check the banlist being used.
As far as I know, no tournaments are played with the MTGO 1v1 banlist.
For competitive multiplayer commander, the official multiplayer banlist is used and I don't see this changing.
So, the official 1v1 banlist is the multiplayer banlist. This is the list I see used the most by a long shot for commander players. However, most 1v1 tournaments will use the French banlist. This is probably better for competitive 1v1 play.
Most 1v1 commander play is still casual, and for this the multiplayer banlist is better suited as you can use the same list for any format.

You can just make decks that are legal by both lists.

Well, obviously. But aside from the obvious loss of powerful cards that are allowed in multiplayer, you also have to contend with a banlist that is always in flux. I don't play enough magic to deal with that kind of banlist.
Thank you guys for the clarification, while I don't feel like building a deck that follows all ban lists, I will likely build a deck for each ban list, so that way I can play any type of EDH without to much hassle.
