So Wizards online team has decreed, following up on changing the duel life total to 30, that rather than just introducing a new banlist to duel commander, they would use one unified banlist for duel and multiplayer. No, its not the French banlist, its an entirely new creation. This means 2 things:
1. They are balancing the banlist for tournament play, and they have confirmed leagues
2. Real Commander no longer exists on MODO

First, I'm pissed that they did a unified list instead of two separate formats. WotC has been incredibly lazy with the client because they are shamefully cheap. They don't employ enough people to properly maintain the product, which makes them a TON of money. They cut too many formats already, but given the popularity of Commander they should have maintained multiplayer and duel as separate formats like in paper. The cite the majority of commander games being 1v1, but 1v1 games take a third or less time to complete than multiplayer. Its not like multiplayer matched aren't constantly running, or even like they take more than 5 minutes to fire, its just that 1 multiplayer match takes 4 players an hour and a half plus to play, while 4 players entering duel matches could crank out 6 in the same time (3 30 minute matches per pair). The new banlist is terrible for multiplayer commander and absolutely against the spirit of the format. Many of the cards are not problematic, and it cuts directly against the spirit of the format. Multiplayer commander should not be hamstrung by tournament play, its supposed to be a casual format, and should not have been touched.
As for 1v1, I agree that the multiplayer banlist was unbalanced, and have said before that it should have a separate list. I agree with many of the choices, such as nuking the fast mana and some of the commanders on the list, but I think it could use a lot of work. First, banned as a commander should have been maintained. Its garbage that Yisan and Edric are completely unusable in the format. In addition, they kept several problematic commanders legal, like Breya, Marath, Tasigur, Oloro, and Vial Smasher (though Vial might be OK with 30 life instead of 20) and ******* LEOVOLD. Other questionable calls include Serra Ascendant, Necropotence (though I'm on the fence there somewhat, but it should have at least been TRIED), Moat, randomly leaving Grim Monolith off the fast mana banhammer, leaving all tutors active except gifts and Doomsday, etc.
Overall, I give the banlist an F for multiplayer and a C for 1v1.

The Meaning of Life: "M-hmm. Well, it's nothing very special. Uh, try and be nice to people, avoid eating fat, read a good book every now and then, get some walking in, and try and live together in peace and harmony with people of all creeds and nations"
Onering's 4 simple steps that let you solve any problem with Magic's gameplay
Whether its blue players countering your spells, red players burning you out, or combo, if you have a problem with an aspect of Magic's gameplay, you can fix it!
Step 1: Identify the problem. What aspect of Magic don't you like? Step 2: Find out how others deal with the problem. How do players deal with this aspect of the game when they run into it? Step 3: Do what those players do. Step 4: No more problem. Bonus: You are now better at Magic. Enjoy those extra wins!
Such a horrible descision on so many levels. The banlist is incredibly dumb for multiplayer and bad for 1v1 imo.
And the big question is why. There are already two functioning banlists for multi and 1v1, why barge in and try to make one list to encompass two very different formats? They don't use the same banlist for legacy and modern so why do they think it's a great idea here?
Really looking forward to multiplayer being dominated by green decks with primordial, primeval and big emmy.
