As everyone who plays it,or knows of it a bit,Commander is well known to be a format where the predominant function is to have fun, while playing MTG,and the competitive side of it,While it still exists,it takes a secondary role.
Also, because it's a casual format, there's no such thing as a Rulebook for playing; Sure, everyone agrees that you start with 40 life, your deck is a 100 singleton deck with 1 commander and such, but the banned list is not always inforced, and usually there are "House rules" to which every group decides on rules for their on games. I've been playing it for like a month with a friend of mine, and I don't want to pretend im the Jon finkel of Commander,im not even the shoelaces of him.I've come to the conclusion,or the thought that some cards that are allowed for commander,Shouldn't, because it takes away the fun of it,to make it more competitive and trying to win fast and almost the the point of humiliating the opposing player, even thought, there's 1/100 chance to get that card,I just don't want to see it played, the list is here:
Also Honorable mentions : all leylines, all infect mechanic, and all eldrazi
I don't know about you,but I hate seeing this cards being played against me,yes,I will use that wording,im not ashamed,if this cards are played against me I will scoop and go home,it takes away the fun of playing for me. Anyways, do you agree? what would you take out from this list? or what would you add? I will appreciate the input and opinions
I would literally take every card off that list, and the official banlist as well, and do some actual testing to see what is too oppressive for the format so that I could come up with a real banlist that makes sense instead of rattling off a completely arbitrary list like the RC does. And reinstate the easily understandable 'banned as general' list. And the sorely-needed ability to tuck generals. That would be refreshing.
My first swipe would in all likelihood look something like this, though maybe I'd be surprised:
-Power 9
-Hermit Druid
-Sol Ring
-Mana Crypt
-Mana Vault
-Derevi/Rofellos/Erayo/Edric banned as generals
I don't really have a problem with anything on your list, and two of them are banned already anyways?
I'm all about playing this format as a social and largely casual one, but Ghostly Prison? Seriously? Why not also Propaganda, Norn's Annex, War Tax, Sphere of Safety, etc? And Elesh Norn? But Jin-Gitasias and Vorinclex are cool? Blazing Archon?? Leylines??? Do you run no removal in your decks?
Prophet and Tinker are already banned in Commander. Other than those, the only other one on your list which comes even close to deserving a banning is Iona, and I agree that one should be banned. The rest? Not even close. Your list actually includes several of my favorite cards in the format, and I'm one of the biggest proponents on this forum for casual and social play over competitive play.
This is clearly a list consisting of stuff that just makes you salty, with no rhyme or reason to it. Is your list going to keep growing every time some card beats you, or gets in the way of whatever strategy you're playing at the moment? If you're hating Ghostly Prison, of all things, I'd hate to see how you'd react if someone dropped something actually complex to get around like Possibility Storm or something actually restrictive like Nether Void. And any Derevi or Brago deck would presumably make your head explode.
My advice? Get over yourself, just play the game, don't take it so personally if you lose, and embrace the diversity and craziness that is Commander/EDH. If you run into players who are playing actual super-competitive stuff - Derevi prison/stax, Zur, Arcum, super-tuned Daretti lists, etc. - go find some other people to play with, but otherwise just build decks that include a range of answers, prepare to run into lots of crazy stuff and try to have fun even when the games don't go your way.
Hi, Admiral! Welcome to the Commander boards here at MTGS.
I don't want to sound dismissive, but the list you've created isn't one most Commander players would consider having much merit. There are a lot of legal cards with the potential to create unfun games of Commander, but they can't all be banned. That would lead to a mile-long banlist that really wouldn't be manageable. As such, the Rules Committee really has to entrust us, the players, with regulating our own playgroups and, most importantly, ourselves. Often times, unfun cards aren't explicitly unfun in and of themselves. They're just commonly used in unfun ways. With some creativity, you'll find that many cards can be used in ways that add to the game rather than subtract from them.
My suggestion to you is to do a lot of reading. Like, a lot. Dig around and try to find out more about why the banned list looks the way it does. It's got a really rich history, and while us forumites are constantly bickering about the merits of banning or unbanning certain cards, I think most of us feel like the banned list is actually in a really good space right now. Once you know a bit more (not trying to sound condescending here!), we'll be able to engage in a much more constructive discussion. And don't let some of the other blokes get to you. They all have good intentions, even if they don't do a good job conveying that.
