i am Sebastian aka QKey and I record and edit gameplay from our local Archon events. Archon is a 1v1 Commander-variant that is designed for competitive play and is managed democratically through its community. I try to upload a video every week and provide a pleasant watching experience. Let me know what you think!
Hi, the format is not managed by a small group but by the whole community. Every change is voted on. Also there is a clear vision what the format is trying to achieve:
Archon should be played competitively, both in tournaments and otherwise.
Archon is a singleton format where you play with at least 100 cards in your deck. This promotes diversity in gameplay.
Commander-centric strategies are encouraged in Archon.
Access to extra mana should come at the price of meaningful resources.
The ability to interact with a particular strategy should not be limited to a minority of decks.
All changes to Archon should be made as democratically and transparently as possible.
We also have a banned and restricted list, that is split up in cards that you are not allowed to play at all, cards that you are not allowed to play as a commander, cards that are not allowed to be played as a partner and cards that are not allowed to be played as a companion. We have also opened up the 100 card limitation. Instead you only need to play at least 100 cards.
As a group we got very frustrated with the french variant, because they tend to ban a lot of cards without real reason. (Just one example: all 5 mana time walks are banned). So we decided that we can make things better and startet this format two years ago.
You can find more details about the format itself here: https://archon.page/about/ or just ask me anything you want to know about it.
