Using Roon to flicker a creature “until the beginning of the next end step”, while that trigger is on the stack, can I use a spell or ability to counter that delayed trigger? Example: “Stifle”. I’ve gotten conflicting answers and would love to hear from a few judges regarding this. Thank you for your time.
Yes. It is a triggered ability and Stifle can counter triggered abilities. Also, there is a rulings forum for questions like this, and you should also be using card tags when asking rules questions.
My apologies. I’m new to this forum. I joined because this was driving me crazy. Will review the guidelines and make sure I follow in my next post. Thank you for the concise answer.
This is exceptionally rude....and the rules don't work that way. If you want a rules citation/backup, just ask for it instead of implying that me being a judge (or not) somehow changes how right the answer is.
Everyone has access to the rules. I prefer this site. You are free to read it yourself if you don't trust me.
Or, better yet, you can just read the rulings on Stifle in Gatherer (Wizards own website) and you will find this:
It can target delayed triggered abilities. For example, a card that says “Whenever a player cycles a card, you may exile target creature. If you do, return that creature to the battlefield at the beginning of the end step.” triggers when a player cycles a card and creates a delayed trigger that happens at the beginning of the end step. You can choose to target the “at the beginning of the end step” trigger when it is placed on the stack at end of turn. [10/4/2004]
So, I am not going to answer your question on whether I am a judge; the answer to your original question is correct and there are plenty of ways to verify it.
Not trying to be rude. I’m trying to make sure that I have proper authorities so that when I do this to my playgroup, I’m able to quickly site it, as the one judge in our playgroup got the ruling wrong. That’s why I specifically said in my post I’m looking for a few judges opinions. I do appreciate your knowledge. I would appreciate an authoritative source, which can overturn the ruling that our local guru got wrong. Apologies again, if it seemed rude. I truly hope you have a good day.
