Hi,
I know that at the moment Legion Angel doesn't work officially in commander because of the "outside the game"-mechanic. I am asking why they include companions, tho. This card isn't broken by any means and just provides you a copy of the same card. It isn't a wish card where you have to search your collection (time issue) or where you could do something out of this world. If I am not mistaken commander is still without sideboard while companions are working.
For me this creature could be a nice addition in my Angel tribal deck as a creature that provides me more fuel. It isn't great but better than the other options I have for 4 Mana. I will kindly ask my opponent if they will allow it and go with it.
i think its much different from companion for one simple reason.
if i flicker something like this i can pull and pull and pull and pull from outside the game making my deck much more versatile by having whats essentially a sideboard accessible throughout the game
companion is just card 101 with significant riders attached to inhibit deck building
There has to be a line somewhere. They had chosen to go with "Wishes don't work". Companions get a pass because they aren't actually getting anything else from outside the game; just themselves. That is the line they have drawn. I personally would have preferred even Companions not working but such is life.
The efficacy and/or power level of this card shouldn't really be a determining factor. The nature of the effect is. And this effect offers no built in restriction to deck size. Companions do as they add 1 no matter what. You blinking this a bunch of times and getting 100 new Angels in hand isn't exactly bound to happen but the possibility exists and someone will do it (it is EDH after all).
Well if the card taken from outside the game would die it would go to my graveyard. I mean I don't think I will carry 20 or more copies of this card around all the time :D. Max would be like 3-8. Depends how good it would turn out to be. It is 4/3 flyer after all.
It didn't come to my mind to flicker this card either. But well you guys are right it is abusable.
I think people didn’t read the card. It doesn’t make your deck more versatile, it’s basically a 4/3 flyer with 2Ww: make a 4/3 flyer (if you allow it to work). Flickering it is a waste since each angel triggers to find the next, So there’s no point unless you’re trying to fill your hand for [[psychatog]] or something.
but yes, that said, it doesn’t work in commander since it’s functionally a wish, even though it’s very restrictive. But it doesn’t hurt to ask.
