Idk if this is smart or not but im thinking of using a lot of doing a voltron thing. 7 power is a great floor for power cause you only need to hit 3 times. Just copy an unblockable like Slither Blade to swing as an unblockable and try to use +1 counters or even stuff like Thornling/Aetherling/Endling to pump him up for bigger damage. The lings also have protective abilities too.
Volrath is versatile enough to do all kinds of naughty things, and with Morphling type cards you get to two shots an opponent. Not bad at all.
I'm not certain that soulbound works the way you want it to unfortunately as it's an etb trigger. When Volrath becomes the Wolfir I don't think you get to double up on the +4/+4. You do get 19 damage on the board minus the other advantages though.
As an aside I think that I might be dropping the infect piles in my build because it makes the deck too linear. I like the idea of being able to use multiple effects in different turn phases. Using fatespinner with volrath is all sorts of messed up. If they want to draw they basically skip their turn BWAHAHAHAHHAHA
Edit: wait nvm you're right it totally works. They're still paired so they each give each other their bonuses. pretty sweet way to oneshot someone if you can get volrath through.
Edit 2: nvm fatespinner doesn't work the way i thought. The opponent can choose the same phase again

I just notice that Volrath could technically trigger every effect at different phase by switching to different creatures. In your example, Volrath could turn into Loyal Subordinate prior to combat to trigger it, then change to Wailing Agonies right before combat damage, then something else before end step, etc.

Not to be the fun police here but keep in mind that this assumes you're putting counters on all these creatures you intend to copy. And Volrath can't -1/-1 the zombie without killing it. With green you have more than enough ways to get counters on things, I think it's just a matter of balancing the counter cards with the fun copyable creatures.
It's fun to play but definitely clunky. You spend a lot of your time trying to set up the engine and if you eat a boardwipe then you're kind of stuffed. Honestly I'm not sure how to make this deck really explode. It's very centered around it's general and it's general is probably at his strongest while swinging. There's nothing in the deck that let's you snowball value or kill players outside of the combat step.
Fine as a fun low powered deck but I don't know how well it'll stand up to most value decks out there.
if they had given you the option of choosing a + or - counter he'd have been worlds better. That would have also opened up a lot of undying persist shenanigans which would have been cool. Oh well.

I'll test your deck a bit first before responding. The problem you mentioned isn't very different from Experiment Kraj decks. Fortunately, even if you suffer board wipe you have black now, you could still revive those creatures.
I think a good Plan B is Necrotic Ooze that borrows all activation from graveyard. You could play Volrath in an attempt to go infinite (similar to how Kraj does it) or with commander damage, and once everything died you use the Ooze to immediately go infinite on your opponent. If you only need two creatures for such effect, The Mimeoplasm is fairly open-ended too.
Yeah Ramp is really necessary because this deck is so mana hungry/much more effective the faster it gets its engine going. I've never built anything with green before so I have no idea how the ratios work out with ramp and other cards in the deck.
If you can suggest dorks/ramp and cuts I'd appreciate it. The manabase is also pretty budget because if I do decide to build this deck IRL I don't really want to shell out 100 bucks for the landbase.

Elves would be the cheapest way to creature ramp, and if you focus on green there's Karametra's Acolyte
tetzimoc is pretty dope. the black requirement to activate his ability is somewhat limiting though.
Here's some new fun tech: phantom nantuko: decent blocker, cheap and fast way to get trample on volrath, also lets him absorb damage aka swing without retaliation vigor: nuff' said, champion of lambholt: conditional unblockable for volrath don't mind if i do, voracious hydra: cheap way to get trample on volrath, also a 4/5 trampler for 4 is totally fine, jodah's avenger unblockable and double strike for 10 is decent, musician: yes go ahead and look up what this card does lmao...make them really sweat about keeping their creature or paying the cost.
If I have Volrath copy a Bear, then play Clone targeting Volrath, the clone will be a 8/5 with Volrath's ability to shapshift. If I use that ability to turn my Clone into another creature, what does that Clone turn back into at the start of my next turn? The Bear or Volrath?

That is a ruling question i am now very curious about.
EDIT: Your cloned volrath would be a 7/5 bear with volrath's ability. At the beginning of next turn it would go back to being a 7/5 (non legendary) bear.
tetzimoc, primal death is something to look into. He puts prey counters on creatures. You never have to cast him. Just B add more toy your option of shapes
How does the copy effect work with dies triggers? Say I turn Volrath into treasure keeper in response to him being shot. Will I get the 3 or less card from it?
you can combo farmstead gleamer with everything that makes more than 3 mana

How i feel about competitive players and casual players in EDH: The competitive are german tourists, the casual are italian tourists, both in a italian beach. The italians asking themselves "why are the germans here?" make a legitimate question, the answer is because the beach is beautiful, no matter the country you came from. The italians wanting to ban the germans are dumb, because if the germans pay for their stay and follow the rules like everyone else, they have the right to be in the beach. Hovewer, if the germans started to ask themselves "why are the italians here?"... they would be dumb as hell.
I need help with something here. Playing a commander game with a friend. Him using Volrarh, the Shapestealer. Me using Jeleva, Nephalia's Scourge.... With Jeleva in play he summons Volrath, then enters combat to put a counter in Jeleva. Exits the combat phase without any action goes to the next main phase and activates the ability to copy Jeleva. All this I understand and get. However when becoming the copy he claims that since he spent5 mana on volrath which is now Jeleva, her copied ETB effect takes place and I exile 5 cards from my library. Can someone please explain how this is possible?
By cheating. You can't retroactively apply an etb effect.

Yeah, you can't copy an EtB effect that late into the turn.

Volrath might even lead an Elf deck, given all that mana production. Originally I used Kraj for such deck, not it's even more viable with Volrath.

Similarly, Wolfir Silverheart gives you 27 damage for 1 mana less, sadly without trample or ramping other creatures however.
There's also demon of wailing agonies whis is ok i guess but loyal subordinate smacking the table for 6 is pretty nuts.

Clone just go SO MUCH BETTER (in this deck) And we have several to pick from. (Clone, Spark Double, Clever Impersonator, Sakashima's Student, Sakashima the Impostor, stunt Double, Phyrexian Metamorph, Vesuvan Shapeshifter, Quicksilver Gargantuan, Vesuvan Doppelganger, Progenitor Mimic, Cackling Counterpart, Spitting Image, Rite of Replication. I would not Suggest Tempt with Reflections (even if you could potentially get 4, your opponents will also get one (and can use your strategy against you) and you have more clones to pick from) and Dack's duplicate sadly falls under red.
I probably missed some. (But that is still 15 you can run in the deck and one of those i would strongly advise against, but it is still listed.
