Was watching an old Command Zone episode, and noticed that Josh pronounces Ghave as 'Gah-vay', instead of like cave, grave, brave, stave, etc. etc. I remember coming across players with other pronunciations in Magic that I found odd, such Myr as 'Mire', and Nissa as 'Nee-sa'.
This is not to claim what is right/wrong in pronunciation, there will always be differences in pronunciations based on accents and languages. But have you ever heard a word in magic pronounced in a way that made you stop and think... wait, that sounded a bit odd, is that how it's supposed to be pronounced?
A lot of it happens because of silent letters. You can imagine how much Ravnica irks me because the c is generally ts or (with a hacek) tʃ, not k. Yet everyone uses it that way.

Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!
Sometimes I feel Kamigawa exists just to make the entire world butcher Japanese names. For the love of god people it's not Sack-Uh-She-Ma the imposter it's Sock-Ah-She-Ma!
I hate that the supposed correct pronunciation of Necropotence is 'neck-ro-po-tents' and not 'neck-raw-puh-tents.' Just looking at it, I feel it should follow the example of similar real words, like necrology, necropsy, necropolis, omnipotence, and impotence.
Hah! Yeah that's an excellent example. Omnipotence is another contentious one, I've heard it pronounced 'omni-po-tence' and 'om-nip-o-tence'. When you've been saying it one way for so long, it can sound so odd a different way!
Funny topic! Is anyone else feeling slightly stupid for trying to pronounce each other's written words with different sylables out loud?
It's pretty hard to make a topic or comment on pronunciation on a message board isn't it, especially if English isn't your native language
The various -potences named earlier get me the most.
I pronounce them all the same like Om-nipotence, Nec-ropotence. To me that just flows better.
Omnipotence is a real word and people pronounce it in different ways, depending on their accent. If anyone ever corrected me on pronouncing real words in my native tongue I would flip out.
OP, the Gah-vay pronunciation probably comes from the word 'Agave' (uh - gaa - vei). I have heard it many times.
This whole conversation reminds me of discussions on how to pronounce names like Smaug and Sauron in Lord of the Rings. My favourite thought was when Tolkien explained that in his fictional languages, the letters CH together make the same sound as the Scottish word 'loch', which is hilarious because in much of the world Loch is pronounced like Lock.
Unless something is obviously wrong, I don't see why it is worth correcting someone on pronunciation. This is a fantasy game and nobody should be offended by pronunciation, especially since WOTC is not consistent.

What about Meloku the Clouded Mirror? Yeah, seriously, they used an L in what's supposedly a Japanese name.
A similar thing happens in Theros. Polukranos, World Eater, but in the context, upsilon is typically transliterated as Y and makes a sound more like the German ü.

The narrator on the Audiobook pronounced the Z in Orzhov like the S in measure. He also pronounced Nicol as Nee-cole, Parun like Parin, Hultai like What-key, if you pronounced “What” like Hank Hill, and Domri Rade had an Austrian Accent.
Among players I’ve heard Kalitas pronounced like Cletus and Dominaria pronounced like Dominria. Garruck is also pronounced different ways.

You are wrong, I hope you know that. A lot, a lot of Magic names are either derivative of or actually factually real world names. I'm certainly not going to hold one name against you, but I've been in arguments with people who stare at even the most normal name and insist on making it seem more fantasy out of some misplaced belief that Magic characters can't have normal names. To this day, I don't actually know if "Alesha" is supposed to be read the same as "Alicia", but I have some friends who get a snarky message every time they print something like "Judith".

Brion's a somewhat archaic spelling of Brian, you know. Though I think the only time I see it today is in the DCU. Prince Brion Markov.
Huatli is actually an interesting one. The H should be silent, since a lot of Nahuatl orthography is borrowed from Spanish. But the L is not our L. You see, in Nahuatl, the tl is an affricate. IPA: tɬ
