Reddit seems awful, and I'm not a fan of tappedout. It'd be nice to somehow retain some of the connections made on this beautiful site, but I wouldn't have the foggiest how to do that, or where to.
For those of you who wish to continue on with our community here, the staff and I have begun building a new home. We'll announce and discuss the prospect when it is more concrete and closer to completion.
We hope that you follow us to the new home we are currently building.
It's only 40 days away, so it won't have everything we've planned, but we will never stop building and improving it.
Thanks heaps for this. I really don't want to resort to the toxic wasteland of bilge and detritus that is Reddit, and there's lots of people here I enjoy conversing with. Eyes will be peeled.
I promise two things: first that as long as I am a part of the new site I will strive to make it at a minimum what we had here, and secondly that based on what we have discussed so far I think it will be even better in the long run.

Cyrogen and I will quite literally give up the EDH forums over our dead bodies.

If it were anyone else saying it, I wouldn't believe it. But, it's Cryo and Airi.
Well, I'm not sure what to think right now. Message boards like MTGS were always a big part of my childhood, and I really hate having to give them up because places like Reddit aren't the same. The anonymity, the upvote structure — it all leads to a place where the written word is disposable, and where popular ideas completely overshadow unconventional or contrarian ones.
Something I've always valued in message boards is that, while writers have always been free to dump their thoughts in a careless manner, the mechanics of message boards don't encourage it to the extent social media does. People like me will just spend their time meticulously crafting their posts in such a way that their ideas are shared with as much clarity and refinement as possible. I don't know why that is exactly. All I know is that the overall format here is just better for having conversations.
And that's what I think I'm ultimately afraid of losing. I'm afraid I'll lose the ability to have meaningful conversations with people about Commander and about Magic: the Gathering at large. Nothing is ever going to beat a face to face conversation with someone, but there's only so many people I can reach due to physical distance. The Internet, and message boards specifically, have always been the next best place to go.

Social media is not designed for conversation. It's designed for performance. When two people talk publicly on social media, that are 10% talking to each other and 90% talking about each other to the theoretical audience. Forums don't sort out unpopular comments, they don't give you scores to rank yourself, most of the comments you make to someone else here will have literally no acknowledgement that anyone who didn't reply to you ever read your post. And that lets you talk to people, rather than the audience.

The only other MTG forums, I go to are the Commander forums and No Goblins allowed, which is focused mainly on flavor currently since it was borne out of the demise of WotC forums and a few of the posters there don't like Sally

Agreed 100%. I've always disliked social media, with its oft impersonal nature, and chatrooms, for their focus on dialogue speed over eloquence. For me, forums like this one have been the perfect place to share my ideas and learn about others'. Before I got into MTGSalvation, and Magic in general, I was a moderator at one of the smaller Pokémon forums, called Psypokes, which still exists but had basically died off years ago due to a lack of visitors. Such is a fickle nature of a fast-changing internet. Hopefully enough of us will migrate to the new site that it avoids that fate, and keeps going strong for years to come.
This place, this place has been a part of me since 2011. Through the ups and downs in my life, I always had this place to come around to and read or visit, sometimes post and just relax. A true end of an era. Yeah, sometimes it's dirty with malware ridden ads, but that's what uBlock Origin is for. It'd be awfully strange to not have this place as part of my routine. We still like this place despite the faults.
Do we know what platform the new one will be on? Proboards? vBulletin? Please do not say it's Tapatalk or Zetaboards...

Are you listing Pokemon or prescription drugs? I can't tell.
Sorry, I just have some experience in administrating over a couple of forum platforms. Mostly ProBoards, but I do like the vBulletin layout such as Giant in the Playground uses. Zetaboards and Tapatalk are utter garbage.

And I'll be posting too (totally a positive).
EDH is love. EDH is life. There is a solid community here and we'll do what we can to keep it.

Will we have a sub-forum for the comortitcom format?
I understood most of those words.
The current plan is to have mostly the same layout we have now, so it should all seem familiar. There will be modifications where some areas are condensed that aren't widely used, and some things are being retired altogether.

Is there a link to the site somewhere? (or is it not yet open?)
As the site is closing down, does anyone have recommendation on where to go next for EDH related forums? I can only think of Reddit at the moment.
