Hello everyone, i've (re)started playing magic just a few months ago but in modern/standard format. Now i would like to play in commander. I've not many ideas since it's my first time in the format in terms of deckbuilding. If i had to chose some coulors i would say black and blue (and, eventually, white) but i'm open to different combinations if you suggest me deck you consider very solid for a beginner. My budget is around 100-120$.
a strange question perhaps, but what sort of player would you say you are? spike, timmy, johnny? that'd narrow your options down a lot more.
Since you say you're playing modern, i can only assume you have at least some level of spike leaning, so i'd suggest you try out the new ninja. the general build is to go nearly ninja-tribal, lots of small, evasive guys, and try to kill the table as fast as possible. I've played against a legacy build that does the same, but uses enlightened tutor for draco as the kill condition.
or maybe grimgrin, corpse-born. if i recall correctly, it's more a combo general that can nuke the table and attack in with massive hordes of zombies.
my favourite UB i've ever played was wrexial, the risen deep. it doesn't look all that scary, but it's one of the perfect decks to take when you're playing against unknown players. In other words, it levels exactly to the strength of opposing decks, so you don't have to worry about pulling punches to let other players have a good time. my build involved a lot of clone/copy effects, and using my opponent's resources as wincons.
Well, i like the control/cruel-control/theme-gimmik decks.. and the annoying ones for aggro players (not because i dislike aggro, since i was one myself, but because in my playgroup most of people just spams creatures without logic and when they kill you off by the third turn they act like they completely outsmarted you.. so i've started to play that kind of decks to have fun and, at the same time, to annoy them as much as i can. I know i'm a bad person). OT: at this point my picks, for what i've seen on the internet, for a commander are The Scarab God and Oloro, Ageless Ascetic. At my local game shop they've advised me Aminatou, the Fateshifter pre-con but i don't like a Planeswalker as a commander.. however if you think that deck fits my type of style i could consider it as an option.
My friend runs a pretty well tuned Aminatou esper blink deck based of off it and Imho the esper colors fit this type of value driven deck best. It's pretty strong on boardcontrol and performs as expected when ran in our pretty focussed playgroup with its fair share of wins.
Aminatou from the commandzone is pretty strong as an engine for blinking shenanigans, and with knowledge of my friends budget, the complete deck is not that expensive. He allready had the fetch/shock manabase from modern though.
Unfortunately i cannot provide the exact decklist, but it contains all the recent cards you'd expect in a deck like this paired with instant speed blinking/flickering cards and ETB/LTB value creatures from modern.

There's always sen triplets if u wanna go full-esper. Not necessarily oppressive if you don't want it to be, but can be pretty powerful.
