I just had a question about this deck. I recently purchased it and began modifying it slightly with some newer cards. I put in Nikya of the Old Ways in the deck from Ravnica Allegiance. Her abilities state that I can't cast noncreature spells and whenever I tap a land for mana, add one mana of any type that land produced. I'm wondering how her abilities effect The Ur Dragons abilities. For example: The Ur Dragon is in play along with a few other dragons and Nikya, I move to combat and as combat resolves I draw cards equal to the number of dragons that attacked then I can put a permanent card from my hand to the battlefield. Can I put a noncreature permanent onto the battlefield? I guess what it really boils down to is if I am putting a card from my hand onto the battlefield (as stated in The Ur Dragon's ability) am I casting it?
The Ur-Dragon says "you may put a permanent card from your hand onto the battlefield." This is not the same as a card like Etali, Primal Storm, which says "you may cast any number of nonland cards exiled this way without paying their mana costs." The Ur-Dragon's ability does not let you cast anything, so Nikya of the Old Ways doesn't interfere.
But the answer is they work fine. Putting a permanent into play is not casting it.
The Ur-Dragon's ability does not let you cast anything, so Nikya of the Old Ways doesn't interfere.
