I've had an idea for a variant which is basically planechase but with curses.
What I need help with is ranking the curses from 1-4, with 1 being the most powerful, and 4 being the least.
I want to create a curse deck that features from 1-4 of each curse (Except Curse of Misfortunes), so the curses that are ranked the weakest (4's) will have 4 copies, with the strongest only being 1 of.
This sounds like potentially a very cool idea, how exactly will it work? Is it, each turn you get cursed? or you get to put a curse on someone else? Can you interact with the curses? Would i need to run 12 copies of naturalise? And I'm assuming they happen for free?
You could just use CMC as a ranking? apart form a few outliers they all seem appropriately costed...
you have a ton of duplicates. Anyway just for fun:
Cruel Reality - 1
Curse of Bloodletting - 2
Curse of Bounty - 3
Curse of Chaos - 4
Curse of Death's Hold - 2
Curse of Disturbance - 4
Curse of Echoes - 2
Curse of Exhaustion - 2-3
Curse of Inertia - 4
Curse of Misfortunes - N/A
Curse of Oblivion - 4
Curse of Opulence - 4
Curse of Predation - 2-3
Curse of Shallow Graves - 4
Curse of Stalked Prey - 3
Curse of the Bloody Tome - 4
Curse of the Forsaken - 4
Curse of the Nightly Hunt - 3
Curse of the Pierced Heart - 4
Curse of Thirst - 3? (kinda depends how the curses work)
Curse of Vengeance - 4
Curse of Verbosity - 3
Curse of Vitality - 4 (god white got the shaft so hard on these curse cycles holy crap)
Fraying Sanity - 4
Infectious Curse - 4
Overwhelming Splendor - 0 (this curse is so nasty it's kind of hard to put it on the same scale as the others)
Torment of Scarabs - 2
Trespasser's Curse - 4
Thanks for the replies! The rules I've thought of are:
1. At the beginning of your end step, roll the curse die (D6). If you roll a 1, draw the top curse and attach it to yourself. If you roll a 6, you may destroy a curse attached to any player.
2. You can interact with curses normally
3. If a curse refers to 'you' (the curses owner), that player is determined randomly at the beginning of the phase where it is important. (As in combat for Curse of Opulence)
4. You may pay an additional 1 to reroll the curse die. (Planechase rule)
I think that's it at this stage. I ended up ranking the curses from 1-3 because having 5-ofs made the curse deck huge. My initial ranking gives a curse deck of 54 cards. My rankings are:
Curse of Opulence is by far the best curse, although part of that is related to CMC (Overwhelming Splendor, Curse of Verbosity, and Cruel Reality definitely have stronger effects, but cost more to play). If all the curses are free then I'd have to stack rank it lower than normal.
Sounds real good. only query would be 3x Curse of Death's Hold??? I don't know what kind of decks your playgroup is running but i like my weenie creatures, one of these would be harsh, to see more than that would be brutal!
I would be tempted to errata the 'you do x' curses, since there arent many, and since randomising it could mean the attacker gets double the effect, which isn't meant to happen... Also imagine attacking into Curse of Bounty only to find it untaps all the opponents blockers

I agree, but since a player only gets one treasure, no matter how many creatures are attacking, so I don't think it'll be too powerful.

I didn't realise I had 3 Death's Hold... Oh well. We'll see how that works.
I forgot to detail that the 'you' clause has to target an opponent, so people can't get the bonus off of their own curses.
