Really is it though? We have a new set being released soon and I am saving up so I can build a battlebox with all 10 guild kits. (Editing only if REALLY needed) but I would like to shift my focus to my favorite format for now.
Commander (2019 actually) And I can say right off the bat, i don't want to see planeswalkers again. If 2018 is any indication of what the future sets will look like when planeswalkers are involved, it is just a hot mess. My LGS is STILL trying to move their first shipment of c18. No one is buying it. They are even at the prices lower than MSRP and no one is buying those monstrosities. Sure I have three, but all three were because of card in said boxes I wanted (And i wanted to build estrid control, failed and eh deck is boring, gonna take it apart.)
But for now lets look at the next set coming out, we have NO information so let's instead discuss what we want.
I want five decks again and ally guild colors. It is the only set we are missing. We had wedges, Shards, Mono, 4 color and enemy guilds, so we need Ally guilds now, and why not bring back experience counters with it?
Or mono color partner commanders. Sure you could run the regular guy or run a couple of commanders together. I would be okay with that.
so what are you hoping to see in the next set, what do you not want to see?
commander 2018 suffered from an increased price and worse cards (in terms of value, objectively, and fun, subjectively).
I don't think it's fair or reasonable to attribute a perceived worsening in quality to the inclusion of planeswalkers. They just weren't as good as previous precon commander decks, that's all.
also, as a counterpoint: the monocoloured planeswalker commander decks were great

I don't mind them keeping it to 4 decks per release so long as they're good. During the C18 spoiler season, Gyrus, Waker of Corpses was the only one I was excited about and is still by quite a margin the most fun I've had with any of them from C18.
I want more tribal. Plain and simple. More Tribals. Pick some tribes that people try to build, but simply doesn't have the support and give it a bunch of support. No goblins, elves, dragons, slivers, merfolk, vampires, or any other tribe with more than enough support. Hell, I wouldn't actually mind Merfolk so long as it was 3+ colors as there are merfolk in :symw:, :symu:, :symb:, and now, but just not esper.
Tribes that need good/more commanders:
Minotaurs
Clerics
Humans
Shamans
Druids
Cats (really messed up that last attempt)
Faeries
Kavu
Angels
I do also have a couple other things I really want:
First is a 5-color Legendary tribal. We have Arvad the Cursed, Day of Destiny, and a whole set with legendary creatures that support legendaries, but no 5-color commander that isn't just there for colors.
Second is more colorless options that aren't geared specifically towards artifacts. This I realize is very difficult and will probably never happen. Just tired of mono-brown being nothing but artifact combo decks.
I would be very surprised if they did PWs again, two years in a row.
I think they will continue with the 4 decks and the higher price tag. Hopefully C19 will have better reprints though.
I think we are going to see another ability that could only exist in Commander. Partner, Eminence, Prossh, Derevi.... they will be doing something unique again.
I am hoping that it is something that scales like Prossh, and not something free like Eminence.
If they do 4 decks, there will not be a color balance.
I would really like them to do colorless though.
Every year, I have bought two of the precons. Until C18. I was prepared to buy two, but the reprints were crap, the price was higher, and I bought the only deck where the new cards I wanted were worth almost the price of the deck - and they have since plummeted to the point where I should have just bought singles. I hope Wizards learned a lesson regarding reprints, because it doesn't cost them any more to reprint a good card versus a garbage one, but it certainly loses them sales.
I wouldn't mind tribal or color pairs, but I'm really open to whatever themes they come up with. I don't play precons out of the box. I get them for the new cards I want and useful reprints, and then I build my own decks. I just care about the cards they include.
Oh, and just to get it out of the way, the possibility of planeswalker commanders or tribal decks is close to zero considering how R&D is incentivized to mix it up and conserve design space.
I would love to see mono colored partners. I loved the partner mechanic but "partners with" on the other hand was a big let down to me. I don't want you to tell me how to partner. Seeing a bunch of mono colored partners would still be looking at 1-3 mana decks given the option to potentially pair it with another commander of the same color or the 2 color partner pairs. I really don't like 4 color decks but I really do like 1-2 colors so some mono color partners would really expand on what they had done previously.
It would be super cool to boot to see the previous partners get a reprint assuming they did mono color partners. I don't know if that's too much to ask but it would be super cool to just get a commander product with all of the partner options in them.

I'm hoping for NOT tribal. Tribal are boring to build and have little applicability outside of their exact deck. Plus for trash tribes like kavu you'd need to dedicate a ton of spots to kavu synergy or it'd never work, and then it's even less useful in other decks. The atrocious cat deck being a good example of this.

Well that is true. Doesn't mean they won't do it though. (Likelyness however is not there)
All tribes kinda needed a dedicated deck. They could have however broadened the tribe usefulness. Like ur dragon reducing the cost of avatars as well as dragons.
That's an insane idea. Dragons are a popular tribe and the ur dragon is designed for new players. Adding in complexity for a "tribe" with zero existing support or even a real identity makes no sense.
What they ought to do is remake karona except not terrible. A 5c commander that supports any tribe. Trying to make a tribal commander for every creature type anyone ever wanted is a fool's errand.

Idk something like that. Doesn't appeal to me personally but it'd help shut people up who want bizarre pet tribes like avatar and homarid and kavu without wasting slots on cards that will appeal to very small numbers of players.

But yea that would be useful. I would run it in dragons...
Better mana fixing (even if these always end up getting disassembled or upgraded, I’m tired of a ~dozen ETB tapped duals per deck). Better reprints of format staples. Also, STRIP MINE. Practically no one likes MLD, but targeted land destruction is a necessity for the format, and it’s now a ~$16 card.

Better reprints, yes. I'd LOVE for them to change up the included lands a little and give us a bit more value there. I'm tired of seeing guild gates, bouncelands et al every year.
Other than that, partner was a really great mechanic that gave us an enormous amount of creativity. I'd love to see it back again.
I think the chances of more walkers is slim to zero, FWIW. Two years in a row is a bit much, and given the general reception of last year's batch I think they'd be fools to go back down this road.
I would like to see a C deck, a 5c angel tribal (with a W Serra pw) and reintroduce the partner mechanic. It would be cool if they added one extra new legendary per deck. Reprint and finish some cycles of lands that might not see standard play such as the mirage fetches, storage duals and shadow lands.
Well, looking at what they have already done might help inform what they might do in the future.
C11 - 5 decks, MSRP $30ea, 3-color Wedges, 51 New Cards, Mechanics - Join Forces
C13 - 5 decks, MSRP $30ea, 3-color Shards, 51 New Cards, Mechanics - Tempting Offer, Abilities working from the Command Zone (Oloro, Derevi)
C14 - 5 decks, MSRP $35ea, Mono-color, 61 New Cards, Mechanics - PW as a Commander, Lieutenant
C15 - 5 decks, MSRP $35ea, 2-color enemy, 56 New Cards, Mechanics - Myriad, Experience counters
C16 - 5 decks, MSRP $35ea, 4-color decks, 56 New Cards, Mechanics - Partner, Undaunted, 4-color Legends
C17 - 4 decks, MSRP $35ea, Tribal decks (WUBRG, GW, WBR, UBR), 56 New cards, Mechanics - Eminence
C18 - 4 decks, MSRP $40ea, Based Around Themes (UR, BRG, WUG, WUB), 59 New Cards, Mechanics - PW as a Commander, "Commanderstorm", "Commander Ninjutsu"
So the trend would suggest 4 decks, MSRP $40each, probably hitting 2-3 of the 5 remaining 3-color combinations not done in C17 or C18, 1-2 of the 8 remaining 2-color combinations, and a slight chance that they do colorless. It is interesting that they have 14 potential combinations left, so at some point they are going to have to repeat.
I also hope that they up the number of new cards to help justify the rising MSRP, and perhaps do a better job choosing some of the reprints. I would also think that 2 mechanics is about the most we would expect from any new Commander product.
I don't particularly care what they do with the decks theme-wise this year, especially if they are going to keep at 4 per set, because that means we won't ever be getting some cycles I'd hoped to see repeated, such as allied colors with experience counters. I would prefer they not go heavily tribal, but I guess would be okay with it if they make the decks interesting enough. Last year's PW decks weren't a huge smash hit, and the quick (and entirely welcome) demise of Brawl suggests being able to use planeswalkers as generals isn't that big a deal to much of the player base, so I hope we go awhile without further PW commanders. Like, 15 years or so sounds about right.
I am as excited as anyone about interesting new commanders and cool new cards in general, but I am particularly interested in the quality of the reprints included in the decks. This year, that quality was unusually poor, especially when you consider that they upped the cost of the decks. If they are going to continue printing Commander decks and have people keep buying them, they seriously need to up the quality of the reprints. The land selections are particularly awful, and this was especially notable in the Lord Windgrace deck, which included only a couple lands that have any synergy at all with the deck's obvious theme. Command Tower in every deck and a handful of moderately useful utility lands in each deck does not make up for the guildgates and *****ty CIPT duals. Nobody is expecting shocklands or quality fetches or Wasteland reprints, but I don't think the world would end if they included a few more lands which people might actually want to play in their decks. Maybe they could complete the Battlebond dual cycle or include the Theros Temples or something. I would love to see Strip Mine, but even Ghost Quarter would be a huge improvement over most of the complete ***** that makes up Commander precon mana bases.
As to nonland cards, there are lots and lots of solid Commander cards that could be reprinted without making these decks attractive to the non-EDH crowd. Last year's decks lacked a lot of obvious cards that would have made them a lot more playable, and there are a lot of great cards that could definitely use more reprints to make them more available and/or to introduce them to players who have never seen them. . Things like Sylvan Library or Asceticism or Leyline of the Void or Toxic Deluge or Archangel of Thune or Mind's Eye or Glen Elendra Archmage or Sneak Attack or any of a gazillion other cards that are more interesting than unplayable crap like Celestial Archon and Epic Proportions and Savage Twister. Maybe reprint some planeswalkers who aren't good enough for modern but who are somewhat popular in Commander like some of the WB Sorins or Sarkhan Vol. Maybe reprint some staples like Vedalken Orrery that are played pretty much only in EDH but which have become somewhat pricey because they are very popular in EDH but haven't received a large printing in awhile.

I could not have put my thoughts more succinctly. This pretty much touches on everything I want from C19.
I'm not going to touch on the reprints, since I think it's been pronounced very well already in the thread and I don't really have anything new to offer.
I've mentioned this idea before and reiterating it likely won't change anything (nor do I expect to see it this year), but can I finally have my Commander's Arsenal featuring the newly created cards of the year alongside the decks? While they're at that, revert the foil changes to the regular decks, so effectively all new cards would have their foil and nonfoil counterparts released effectively in the same time. The discrepancy that each new year adds is already compounding and clearly the Judge Foil pace of 1 per year isn't actually doing anything in scale. The previews don't even excite me anymore because I know they can't be foiled and hence I consider them ineligible (other than the Commanders, but that's only a handful of cards that can easily miss in design to what I would want to use). When they previewed Teferi's Protection in 2017 my immediate reaction was "Oh boy can't wait to accquire the judge foil in 2018 or 2019".
Sure, the sealed product definitely doesn't include me in its target demographic (even in the few foils I was interested in i went for singles that my LGS opened up from), but it's still painful to see new great designs I simply have no desire to incorporate because of their nonfoil-only status, making preview season ironically making me more apathetic to the product line instead.

Kavu have never been my favorite creature type, but it does hold a high level of nostalgia for me as i ran kavus in my first deck back in 2000.
More tribal would be nice overall. Just not another power spike. The only two decks out of the box that held a chance were cats and vampires.

Maybe a word-engineering deck (blind seer-but with the artificial evolution wording) could be cool.

Well that is true. Doesn't mean they won't do it though. (Likelyness however is not there)
All tribes kinda needed a dedicated deck. They could have however broadened the tribe usefulness. Like ur dragon reducing the cost of avatars as well as dragons.

What they ought to do is remake karona except not terrible. A 5c commander that supports any tribe. Trying to make a tribal commander for every creature type anyone ever wanted is a fool's errand.

I'd say something like:
Zelig
{2/w}{2/u}{2/b}{2/r}{2/g}
Legendary creature - shapeshifter
As zelig etbs, choose a creature type.
Zelig is the chosen type.
Other creatures you control of the chosen type get +2/+2 and cost {1} less.
Zelig gets +1/+1 for each other creature you control of the chosen type.
Flying, fs, lifelink, haste, trample.
2/3
Idk something like that. Doesn't appeal to me personally but it'd help shut people up who want bizarre pet tribes like avatar and homarid and kavu without wasting slots on cards that will appeal to very small numbers of players.
