I am looking now for commander suggestions that can be built in multiple ways. Not looking for a deck for them, just ones that looking at the commander does not have a normal archtype. You see Grand Arbiter Augustin IV You expect Stax. you See Meren of clan Nel Toth (really good) Reanimator. If I show up with a Sharuum the hegemon deck, they will suspect combo.
I want to play a deck that no one knows what to expect as it is either a really obscure commander, or one that has so many built opportunities they don;t know which deck i went with. No one expected my Atraxa deck to have been aggro. Sure she had Proliferate, but she was also a 4/4 with four keywords built in. Just a bit of protection and she was scary.
Jhoira, suggested by Ertai, is a very good choice. She can be built in a practically infinite number of ways. Legendary tribal. Artifact combo. Superfriends.
Riku can also be built a lot of different ways. You can focus on copying creatures for value, or on copying spells, or on a mix of both. You can also do odd things like Riku + copied spells to make Riku unbockable and seek to kill people with commander damage as a sort of odd aggro-voltron build (I do something similar with Kess, Dissident Mage, who is also a very versatile commander).
Animar can be built a lot of different ways, but even less optimal builds (such as my own hydra tribal build) still tend to be very powerful, because Animar is just one of those generals who lends toward brokenness.
You can also try generals who tend to be built in a specific way, but specialize within that general's area of expertise. Alesha is excellent for this, because there are so many different potential Alesha builds, based on what selection of small value creatures you play with. More controlling Alesha builds might focus on eliminating opponents' resources via things like Ravenous Baboons, Fulminator Mage, Silverchase Fox, Ravenous Chupacabra and Manic Vandal, backed up by sac outlets like Attrition and Shivan Harvest, while more aggro builds might focus on boosting Alesha's power and getting in unblocked damage. Or you might go with an Alesha build which focuses on chipping away at opponents' life totals via small bits of damage with Purphoros/Impact Tremors + token makers + Extort creatures.
The issue with chromium is no access to green, You know, the color with the best Pump spells.
You're thinking in too linear of a fashion. I've seen Chromium, the Mutable built in multiple ways.
1. Voltron, focusing on an Esper equipment build.
2. Control, using Chromium as a finisher.
3. Reanimator, Chromium provides a free discard outlet which is very unique and prevalent in most Commanders. Being able to bin large portions of your hand and being able to cheat out creatures does make for a fun deck.

My List of Current Decks: -Modern- WMartyrProcB BBurnR -Commander-
When talking about versatile, I have to recommend Marath. He is a swiss army knife of a commander and very useful for various strategies. I guess the most common build for him is tokens, but that's far from the only thing he supports.
Honestly with the high stats and evasion he already has extra turns are going to give you a lot more action than green pump would. You still have access to white's equipment tutors as well as the extra turns.
I used to play with a guy who owned something like 4 different Oloro decks. I recall one of them was mono-black Relentless Rats, and I think only one or two of them was even capable of casting the commander.
Kind of a vague question. Who's the most "versatile"? I mean probably something garbage like tobias andrion or cromat since they have no synergy to build around. Or cards like damia who are good, and have a little synergy, but don't point you in any particular direction very strongly.
You can always take a commander and do something unexpected with it. I used to like my creatureless brago deck that ran mostly planeswalkers to reset and re-activate every turn. Not the most original thing ever, but you get the idea. There's nothing to stop you from building, say, neo-arcades enchantress or something that makes no sense, if your goal is just to throw people off. I mean he's still an ok beater. Maybe arcades voltron would be a better example.
And then there are cards like neo-jhoira which point you strongly in multiple directions - artifact, legends, planeswalkers, and sagas (although probably not really sagas). Or even legendary non-creatures, maybe. Strong synergy but multiple discreet directions to go. Ofc you could do pws AND artifacts, but your cross synergy will probably kind of suck since jhoira will be one of the few things cross-synergizing well.
So I guess it depends what you want. Goodstuff low-synergy? lots of those around. surprise unusual weak synergy? can do that with basically anyone not in column a. Or multi-path strong synergy? That one's pretty rare.

Who the hell plays pump spells in commander? I mean, go-wide stuff like overrun or craterhoof behemoth, sure, but I wouldn't call those pump spells.
Of all the things green does well, single-target pump spells is probably the least relevant in commander.
Not really wanting to beat people to death with a 1/1. But putting sowrd on him was a good thought and I may go with Esper voltron... Oh great, another voltron.

Yea i am thinking going control with a few tricks like that. But Hatred will only eliminate one person.
How is narset "generic"
She is easily one of the .ost hated (and probably broken) commanders out there. (Granted the RC thought erayo, refellos, and Leovold were worst. But that is neither here nor there)

For the most part Narset can be built in one of three ways:
1. Chaining together extra turns/combat steps (the most competitive option).
2. Superfriends
3. Value (playing R/U/B non-creature good stuff and use her trigger for value).
I have seen The Scarab God played in a bunch of different ways:
1. Hard control and using the general as the finisher.
2. Zombie tribal in an attempt to burn opponents out with the scry/life loss trigger.
3. Mill and reanimator.
4. I have a discard build that reanimates opponent's creatures (and a few of your own). This is very different from 3 since mill helps all reanimator decks and you are focusing on reanimating your opponent's creatures and not your own.
