3-5 is definitely the sweet spot. Past that (1) wtf are you doing running 6 six-drops you idiot timmy (or god forbid, 7 7 drops), and (2) wouldn't it be a lot more efficient to just play worldly tutor or summoner's pact or something if you're getting some sort of endgame creature, so you don't have to sit there with everyone knowing whats in your hand for a full turn cycle while they get their removal/counters/beating your face to pulp ready?
As a braingeyser that's guaranteed to draw gas it's pretty nice, but braingeyser isn't an amazing card or anything, and also having a diversity of CMCs is really useful if you want to deploy multiple threats a turn. Definitely going for a high x-values means you're probably only playing one spell per turn for at least a bit.
6/99=3.6363.../60, so, not that bad. Though again, you're limiting yourself to creatures, and there are plenty of good artifacts, enchantments, and sorceries for that slot. Can't think of many instants. Can think of a few planeswalkers.
But absolutely, you must thwart combo players.

Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!

Those are details. Reliquary is nice, but even six 9 cmc guys is still cool.
Obviously the various combo routes suggested previously have way more punch, but the though of using Myojin of Life's Web to cast a bunch of huge things just tickles my inner Timmy.

I wanted to add on to this conversation with my own experience with this card. I use this card in my competitive Momir Vig deck, and it has served as a reliable means to generate amazing card advantage.
At X=2, I can tutor for cards like Cloud of Faeries and Phantasmal Image, key pieces in assembling the infinite mana loop. it also helps me get the loop piece + outlet at the same time in the form of Faeries + Thrasios, Triton Hero. With Vig out, I can cast Cloud of Faeries, untap the lands to cast Thrasios, getting Temur Sabertooth to be able to win the next turn. Even if I just need value plays and a way to burn extra mana, I can get Sakura-Tribe Elder to ramp and Duskwatch Recruiter or Jace, Vryn's Prodigy for card advantage.
I think that Uncage definitely requires the right kind of deck to play it effectively, as I don't run it in any of my other green decks. However, when used properly, it can be very advantageous.

Well it's actually a Casacade-into-Hypergenesis deck. Pure jank, but surprisingly wins a lot of games if you can get that moment of Gotcha!
The basic idea is that the entire deck is all big fatties and powerful cards except for 10 cards that cascade. Because all the cards 4 or less converted-mana-cost are either Cascade or Hypergenesis or Eureka, you can put all your cards into play. Obviously opponents can also put their big stuff into play, so there is a lot of stealing and removal to hopefully mitigate what they are doing. There is also some draw cards, because you get games where a person can do a board wipe in response to your powerplay, so if you fill up your hand again then go for a second round.
The Grozoth package is in there as the creatures are just naturally powerful anyway, but allow for a secondary plan of using Grozoth, to stack your hand. Often it will be the combination of discarding a bunch of them due to hand size and then using Rise of the Dark Realms to get them back as mentioned before.

This is a resource guide.
It will tell you what combinations you can use to get well known combos with Uncage the Menagerie and proxying through certain creatures (and cards) to get all the pieces.
I've gone through the infinite combo thread and identified the ones that can allow you to get all the pieces off casting Uncage the Menagerieonly once.
I've identified the creature cards that you can use to search your library for cards, except for basic lands, Rebel and Mercenary, and the "name" of the card ones (like search for "Godsire"). This way you can turn your Uncage the Menagerie into any potential win.
Also cards that can get cards from graveyards play an important role.
Sacrifice outlets are a big part of combos so play a very relevant role.
The ability to copy one of the cards you already have used to get a combo piece, might be relevant to duplicate that creature. These are listed.
Finally there are some cards that can search/duplicate/sacrifice/etc, for other cards needed when it's available outside of a creature type. A classic example of this is using Trinket Mage to get Expedition Map to get a particular land. These are Non-creature sources.
Tutor creatures by converted-mana-costs 1 CMC WWeathered Wayfarer - Land. Conditional less lands than an opponent.
Tidespout Tyrant + cheap artifacts / mana rocks = infinite mana/storm, e.g. Sol Ring and any 0 drop, or mana Vault and any 1 drop.
Uncage the Menagerie GG3 = Fierce Empath + Trinket Mage + Duplicate/bounce/blink the Trinket Mage
If you're into lock down decks, then here is a way to destroy your opponents lands.
Karn, Silver Golem, Kuldotha Forgemaster, Thopter Squadron.
You can use the Thopter Squadron to get enough artifacts to sacrifice to Kuldotha Forgemaster to get Mycosynth Lattice.
You can then use Karn, Silver Golem to destroy lands at the cost of 1.
In red you could also combine it up with Chandler and Joven to destroy other permanents.
