Based on this artwork, if there is ever an MTG movie, Eddie Murphy plays Teferi or GTFO.
Eddie Murphy? Nah. Idris Elba's got the right look and the screen presence for such a role.
Generally I agree - Idris>Eddie. But Idris is probably too bulky to be Teferi to my mind. This was more a comment on how much the pic looks like young Murphy.
All hilarity aside, someone like Don Cheadle probably has the physique and screen presence more to me. Idris is more a warrior class than mage to me.
I would like to see more Horror legends & finally a Nightmare legend!
Hypnox should have been a legend. I want to see WoTC open up Dominaria to uncommon legends as well, like the Kamigawa block. Make tons and tons of new legends, especially uncommons for the Pauper-EDH crowd.
Probably boring but I'm mostly hoping for a new elf legendary.
I'v bee looking for an Ezuri replacement for a while now and just don't like the current options much.
It doesn't have to be a stronger card than him but something cmc 4 or lower with a reasonable mana dump ability would be cool.
Preferably (B/G).
Of course I'd also pick up a (U/R) artificer Jhoira any day of the week.
There is a real possibility of a new version of Radha, Heir to Keld, although I'm not sure it would be very "Elf" orientated. I say bring back Rofellos, but you know, don't make him as busted so that it gets banned from commander
One problem is, a lot of the characters people want are...dead, and can't be included in Dominaria. And I say this as someone who wants a Xantcha card to go with her tragedy. They can be in Commander product à la Feldon of the Third Path, though.
We can do Jhoira, Karn, Jaya, and Teferi, but as far as we know, Jaya and Teferi don't have their sparks. I'd like to see Marit Lage as well, but she isn't on Dominaria anymore.

Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!
i'd also wanna see.. er... can't recall the names, but the 2 apprentices from the brother's war. the toy maker and the woman who had that staff that sucked life out of people. them.
Oh and that other one, the phyrexian who urza saved and then he/she went and found some dude called rat to pretend to be mishra? she/he'd be cool too. Some sort of mono-black sneaky legend.
Dunno, but for me, the coolest lore from dominaria is from the brothers war era. read the books and thought they were epic. the other story arcs were alright too, but something about the brother's war was awesome.
Ashnod(woman with the staff) and Tawnos(toymaker)?
right! them 2!
also, xancha or something? though i think they're all dead.

is serra the PW still alive?
Serra is dead.
Truth be told, I can't see us revisiting many, if any at all, of the characters we're familiar with other than those spoiled thus far. Most of them have been terminated or would be detrimental to revive in terms of productive storytelling. That's the thing about Dominaria - sure it has the lion's share of lore from Magic's history, but it's easy to repress how messy and shabby the storyline got. Urza was a douche, Gerrard was a terrible combatant, the Weatherlight crashed several times, and the Phyrexia/Yawgmoth storyline got horribly messy. Partly I think it's because of continuity issues - there was a lack of consistency between authors, and eventually it just started getting phoned in. Sure it had some awesome points - I loved tempest block, it was the first new release I was around for and Volrath was pure badass. But for all the high points, there were some real lows too.
That being said, I think we probably will see some heritage characters turn up in Commander precons - it's a good way to represent them without muddying the current story. And I think there's a good possibility of seeing ancestors of heritage characters turn up, too. I think that would be the best way from an authorial perspective to tie the past to the present. Reanimating some of the earlier characters would just be messy in terms of story arc, and opens up the possibilities of an absolute sh*t sandwich. And none of us want to eat that.
That's a fair point. I was just coming back to this thread to mention/ask(askention? mensk?) if Ashnod was, in some lore or another, discovered to be a Phyrexian agent deliberately manipulating Mishra into war with Urza(and escalating it all the while). And yeah, that whole plane is hard as balls to put into a coherent storyline, even if you ignore putting a timeline together.
Hoping for the best from this installment(with or without familiar faces) without, as you say, 'having to eat a s*** sandwich'.
I guess it's a harsh way to put it. But some of the Dominaria lore was seriously messy. And I actually think the recent arc has been fairly decent. Whether you've had enough of the Gatewatch or not, I've been enjoying it and I think they're on a reasonably good run. I'd hate to see it take a downward turn, and I think they run a huge risk reanimating popular figures from Dominaria - chances are resurrecting the dead you're going to see some decay. And nostalgia is cool, but oftentimes attempts to rejuvenate times gone past just come across as a cash in or contrived, and I for one definitely don't want to see that.
I think Dominaria has enough legacy to introduce some new talent and I think it'd be pretty cool to see that. I still want to see Raven Man represented in card form and I want the big reveal of who he actually is, but I'm happy to have just that, and I'm happy to wait for it if needed.
I'd be pretty stoked for some sort Squee reappearance
Gerrard - dead
Hanna - Dead
Mirri - dead
Crovax - compleated then dead
Starke - dead
ertai - dead
Rofellos - dead
Multani - status unknown
Squee....has died enough, poor guy. I'd love to see him too. Tahngarth would be cool to see, could make a decent minotaur tribal commander theoretically. Just putting it out there, too, Zur the Enchanter could still be alive. From the lore he was interested in immortality, and his status is unknown.
Honestly, I just want sweet new commanders. The Gitrog Monster was one of the most mechanically interesting legendaries that I've seen in a long time, and would love to see more cards in the same vein. Basically any legendary that plays a different game than the rest of them. I want a card that screams for me to play a whole stack of different cards than any other deck. I'm kindof annoyed with the 'its a staple, so you should play it!' mentality (tutors, ramp, removal being largely similar/predictable in most decks).
I like playing decks with creatures and combat, so I would love a legend that allows me to do this.
A commander that allows for tons of spot removal would also be awesome.
Interesting...as the list was being run down, I was hoping Sisay was still among the living, and now that she is(assuming she hasn't already been spoiled), I'd love to see a new Sisay card...and no, this has nothing to do with the fact that I have a deck built around her.
I want a card that screams for me to play a whole stack of different cards than any other deck.
Have you tried Athreos, God of Passage? I love my Athreos deck because the worse the creatures are, the more likely I'm going to get the powerful return-to-hand effect over the spiteful 3 life loss. Nobody's going to give you back Phyrexian Obliterator, but you'll totally get Ornithopter back as often as you like. Shriekmaw is also fun with him.
Anywho, aside from the good old 20/20 Indestructible Token herself, I'm excited to see Jhoira and I really hope 'suspend' comes back for this set.
I would love to see a legendary Weatherlight vehicle as well, like most people. Only if it fits the story though.
I have played Athreos! I love that deck, and (in my opinion) the superior cousin Shirei, Shizo's Caretaker.
Another thing I would love to see is a sweet Jund commander. It feels like whatever route you want to go, Prossh, Skyraider of Kher is the best at it, whether its tokens, voltron, combo, reanimator and so on. Having a red or black focused Jund commander that is better than Prossh at something.

It's entirely possible. Keldon seems to be fairly close to Jund flavoured to my mind. I guess it depends how they divide colour pairings flavour wise for the set, but I wouldn't rule it out entirely.
Mishra & Yawmgmoth. i would have said urza too, but since he was just in unstable, i'm guessing that'd be a pipedream. & for the love of the gods & anything else thats holy, pls NO JACE!
Jace, the Mind Sculptor takeover of the Universe succeeded long ahead in the future. Do not resist.
I'm actually seriously hoping for a legendary creature version of Urza. They could easily work it into the story through a copy of Urza before he sparked that got frozen in a time experiment gone horribly awry.
No offense, but personally I'd hate that. I get how awesome he was to a lot of people, but Urza being primary protagonist was responsible for some of the messiest, most poorly written storyline in MTG lore to date (not to mention some of the most douchebag ********ry from Urza himself). I think they'd be mad to write him or any of the major characters from the Yawgmoth saga back in.

Oh I get what you are saying and totally understand. I don't think he should come back into the magic storyline and be a good guy. I think he should come back into the storyline and be the antagonist.
In reality though, you are right. Time-related stories in the Magic Universe seem to always cause long periods of head scratching and pacing back and forth so it's probably best not to mess with Yawgmoth. Lest we resurrect him.

Yeah, I feel like a jerk saying it. Some of the Urza themed sets were amazing, and some were total abortions that were almost globally lambasted, from a play and lore perspective.
My opinion is entirely lore-based; I can't see how it would be anything but a complete mess to resurrect any of those major characters. Remaining characters, maybe: Sisay, Multani, Squee (I'd love to see him again), great. Any of the really defining names, it'd be an absolute mess. Yawgmoth is dead and phyrexia lives on without him, so it's redundant to bring him back in. The Brothers have had their time in the sun and done enough.
I guess I just want the story to be as legible, credible and good as it can be. I know a lot of people aren't into the Gatewatch, and I could take them or leave them. But things are just starting to gain some momentum, and reminiscing on times past and absent friends would be a huge step backwards.
I wonder if they bring back the Weatherlight (almost certainly imo), whether the Predator (Predator, Flagship) will also see a reprint as a legendary vehicle?
It's not gonna happen, though...
