It's trying to be a bad Skullclamp. The synergies (mana elves, tokens) and antagonisms (mostly anthems and a few graveyard hate cards like Rest in Peace) are still there, but it's a one-time effect, it only draws you one, and it costs you 4G to Skullclamp's 1.
It's still playable, but if you have Skullclamp, you can more than replenish your hand for five mana.

Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!
It's an elemental that can be cast from the graveyard with Horde of Notions, so it pairs up well with Avenger of Zendikar in that regard for some serious digging. It's not insane or anything but it plays double duty with Fecundity.
Yeah, but if you're running Fecundity, Skullclamp is still better.

It bothers me that he doesn't have first strike in the first typeline instead of double strike. He's pretty fun with Valor though.
Its just like when they say whenever 'X or another', and its like, yea we know he counts for this thing. Ex : Xathrid Necromancer Just say when a human. They try and dumb it down too much and actually make it more confusing.
If people are sick of reading about stuff just stop taking part. You have 100% control over what you read. Simic Ascendancy isn't going to get banned just because you didn't tell someone to shut up on the internet.
We saw this with Avacyn, Angel of Hope, too. The original card from Innistrad Avacyn, Angel of Hope has the indestructible effect in the same line with others instead of having indestructible herself and granting it to others (newer print).
It's cards like this that remind you how not often they print first strike aggressively.
There are so many playable ways to give First Strike to your whole team that Kwende is, IMO, super-dangerous in creature decks that happen to include cards like Odric, Lunarch Marshal, or any of the cards mentioned so far.

Odric would give them all double strike anyway tho, just because Kwende has double strike.

I don't think i've ever seen anyone play a cycling matters deck outside of astral slide when it was type 2. Is it that playable in EDH? i imagine it's a bit of a pain if there isn't a legendary guy who interacts with cycling in some way.
The main thing I can think of is Hunter's Insight, but you should have better means of looting.

I concur, a good card that is fun without being too strong or too weak
You never want to waste a removal on this, but after a couple of attacks suddenly you want to waste that 1B or 2G to kill a 1UB creature...

How i feel about competitive players and casual players in EDH: The competitive are german tourists, the casual are italian tourists, both in a italian beach. The italians asking themselves "why are the germans here?" make a legitimate question, the answer is because the beach is beautiful, no matter the country you came from. The italians wanting to ban the germans are dumb, because if the germans pay for their stay and follow the rules like everyone else, they have the right to be in the beach. Hovewer, if the germans started to ask themselves "why are the italians here?"... they would be dumb as hell.
The Meaning of Life: "M-hmm. Well, it's nothing very special. Uh, try and be nice to people, avoid eating fat, read a good book every now and then, get some walking in, and try and live together in peace and harmony with people of all creeds and nations"

Whether its blue players countering your spells, red players burning you out, or combo, if you have a problem with an aspect of Magic's gameplay, you can fix it!
Step 1: Identify the problem. What aspect of Magic don't you like? Step 2: Find out how others deal with the problem. How do players deal with this aspect of the game when they run into it? Step 3: Do what those players do. Step 4: No more problem. Bonus: You are now better at Magic. Enjoy those extra wins!

That a very grim way of absorbing knowledge.
I used to fit this thing into every deck based off that one time I curved Mycoloth into this. That was the only time it was truly remarkable.
Steel Sabotage'ng Orbs of Mellowness since 2011.
It's still playable, but if you have Skullclamp, you can more than replenish your hand for five mana.

You could even just use very efficient first strikers like Porcelain Legionnaire and Baneslayer Angel.

I can imagine making this card exceptionally large, but for it to be deadly, I think I would want to fling it.
There's always the surprise factor, though I prefer WotC prints an improved version of Lightning Rift.
