One group I used to play with really frowned on Combos and such, so cards like Tooth and Nail were really treated as value engines that his led to ridiculous board states. One such game with this group, a player entwines T&N to grab Mirror-Sigil Sergeant and this. It lasted about 3 trips around the table because of late in the game it was.
No "combos"? Just T&N for Prime Time + Realm Razer then. "Not a combo, can't get mad." Technically speaking, of course. Think it was either three or six months out from Prime Time's banning...
Anyone play Tiagam? The plus side is this guy costs no mana to use.
Someday soon I will, I've got most of the deck set aside. That being said, that's more so as the ultimate excuse to play both Paradox Haze and Null Profusion side by side.

Well damn that's bad. Not even Horobi wants this, and Horobi wants Ghosts of the Damned.

Onering's 4 simple steps that let you solve any problem with Magic's gameplay
Whether its blue players countering your spells, red players burning you out, or combo, if you have a problem with an aspect of Magic's gameplay, you can fix it!
Step 1: Identify the problem. What aspect of Magic don't you like? Step 2: Find out how others deal with the problem. How do players deal with this aspect of the game when they run into it? Step 3: Do what those players do. Step 4: No more problem. Bonus: You are now better at Magic. Enjoy those extra wins!
It's one of those assassin-type cards in black that will give you varying degrees of success depending on what you're up against. This is probably more consistent to kill things than Tsabo's Assassin, for instance, but the number of things you can kill with it is really capped off.
tstorm not mentioning Mirror of Fate here for some reason.
This card is amazing. I run it in my Alesha deck as one of only three creatures she can't reanimate. It's a beautiful card for any graveyard or reanimation deck and is innocuous enough that your opponents will probably leave it alone for a while.
Out of curiosity, if you took two combat steps with the same creature, would you draw four total cards if you opted not to activate the ability a second rime?

Yes, the ability specifies it's active until end of turn, every time you do combat damage, you draw 2.

This can be pretty fun with minimal setup. Even more fun with double strike or multiple attacks. And it doesn't say "target", so Spirit Mantle.
An aside: You've got to love how Semitic words sound either angelic or demonic, even when it just means "helper".

Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!
You know what I like more than this card? Mask of Memory. All colourless, does virtually the same thing, and let's be honest if you're in the market to be looting, then if you can somehow draw twice off the 3/3, you wouldn't mind getting a second discard too.

Sure, it's Magical Christmasland, but the potential for +10 card advantage is there.

But mask of memory is less contingent on playing an otherwise bad 3cmc 3/3, and under the same savage beating, is a +8 ca. (If you're playing this, it's because the discard is otherwise not card disadvantage).
It's like they decided to make a worse Compost for twice the cost that only triggered one time and was still vulnerable to creature removal. Sounds like an anti-winner to me.

I guess it stack with extra attack steps, double strike..
in other words, combos with savage beating, relentless assault and sword of feast and famine.
This looks pretty hilarious to pull off even if it's not actually that good.
Legacy - Solidarity - mono U aggro - burn - Imperial Painter - Strawberry Shortcake - Bluuzards - bom
Technically, if you cast Savage Beating, it becomes
discard 1
draw 2
