This card just spiked with the reveal of a certain blue legend that can use 2 (3) extra mana at instant speed.
Spiked where? It's 1,00€ at best (on cardmarket). Okay, lol, i just checked tcgplayer...5,00$ is hilarious.
Anyways, underestimated champ in my Lazav, the Multifarious build. Sure, it's no Training Grounds, but having no "this can't reduce mana spent below 1" clause is pretty great.
No wonder the Modern Horizon Power Smurf can abuse it.
That being said, I don't know why Urza would spike this card. Urza is strong, but it doesn't mean that you need to run Thran Turbine.
Consider that Urza lets you tap the Turbine for mana, so that's 3 mana made by a 1 cost artifact. With a Training Grounds that's a free Urza activation every turn. I don't know if Urza makes Thran Turbine amazing or anything, but it's certainly not bad.
I've used it in Ghave. It's alright there. Definitely not for every deck, though.

Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!
How i feel about competitive players and casual players in EDH: The competitive are german tourists, the casual are italian tourists, both in a italian beach. The italians asking themselves "why are the germans here?" make a legitimate question, the answer is because the beach is beautiful, no matter the country you came from. The italians wanting to ban the germans are dumb, because if the germans pay for their stay and follow the rules like everyone else, they have the right to be in the beach. Hovewer, if the germans started to ask themselves "why are the italians here?"... they would be dumb as hell.
I like copying archaeomancer with a time warp (or other time magic) in the grave. Just get a bunch of them, and then swing at the very end (or keep swinging at target you can swing at. maybe cast a sleep?
I've won a game with this on Conclave Naturalists because my opponent simply had no answers that I couldn't counter. Dismantled his deck and then beat him to death, it was pretty embarassing.

My Commander decks:
Chandra, Torch of Defiance - Oops! All Chandras.
Prime Speaker Zegana - Draw for Power.
Pir & Toothy - Counterpalooza.
Arcades, the Strategist - Another Brick in the Wall.
Zacama, Primal Calamity - Calamity of Double Mana.
Edgar Markov - Vampires Don't Die.
Child of Alara - Dreamcrusher.
Had a game where this was on Hydra Broodmaster and was making something like 150 mana a turn with a bunch of Elvish Archdruids so I was making a whole lot of very large hydra tokens every turn. Good times.
My favorite progenitor mimic story would have to be copying a Thundermaw Hellkite with it and beating down the entire table while managing to draw counters for my opponent's answers. Yeah it's relatively simple but darn oppressive.
Needless to say the next game all three opponents ganged up on me and took me out quickly as punishment for that...
I like how it says "if this isn't a token" because a true geometric progression would be ridiculous. (As if this weren't already.)
It's weird how they sorta recognize green has clones but not really, though.

One group I used to play with really frowned on Combos and such, so cards like Tooth and Nail were really treated as value engines that his led to ridiculous board states. One such game with this group, a player entwines T&N to grab Mirror-Sigil Sergeant and this. It lasted about 3 trips around the table because of late in the game it was.

When Urza asked the Viashino what it did, they answered "it hums".
My fave non-Null Rod flavour text.
Steel Sabotage'ng Orbs of Mellowness since 2011.
Pretty much. At the time it was printed, its main usage would have been to pay Echo or Upkeep costs.

On phasing:
I've only played this card briefly ever, but I did get to copy a Mirror-Sigil Sergeant for a couple turns, so I was happy with it.

Cool name, repeatable removal, and there are times where removing cards from your graveyard is an upside.
