The cool thing is how it's stealth-asymmetric. Just put the tap (since it doesn't target) on the bottom of the stack and then put the fading trigger next.
Or just run, you know, Eon Hub (or Seedborn Muse) and maybe some proliferate cards just to screw with your opponents more.
Oh hey, look, if you're using oppressive lockdown cards (Meekstone in particular), this can be recurred with the titan with vigilance. I'd almost think Wizards chose to gave Sun Titan vigilance for that reason, but that's giving them too much credit.

Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!
I think they went too low powered on this one. If, like some other white spells, it could protect your creatures or if it redirected damage instead of gained life, it would be a pretty neat free surprise. And if it did both those things, it would be stellar. As it stands, this is a free spell that does nothing but gain you life to survive long enough to have to pay for it anyway.

Zedruu: "This deck is not only able to go crazy - it also needs to do so."
Probably the second best pact for Hive Mind, not requiring a target and being in one of the two worst Commander colors. By itself it's not much more impressive than something like Awe Strike to be honest.

To be fair, it does stop some shenanigans for a turn, like giving Squallmongerlifelink and having infinite mana. Though it is only for a turn, and you'll simply get hit just as hard next upkeep.

It gets those lethal Banefires as well. If not used in a combo, your really only running this if your meta has big effect spells as finishers, because against creatures Holy Day is better.

The Meaning of Life: "M-hmm. Well, it's nothing very special. Uh, try and be nice to people, avoid eating fat, read a good book every now and then, get some walking in, and try and live together in peace and harmony with people of all creeds and nations"
Onering's 4 simple steps that let you solve any problem with Magic's gameplay
Whether its blue players countering your spells, red players burning you out, or combo, if you have a problem with an aspect of Magic's gameplay, you can fix it!
Step 1: Identify the problem. What aspect of Magic don't you like? Step 2: Find out how others deal with the problem. How do players deal with this aspect of the game when they run into it? Step 3: Do what those players do. Step 4: No more problem. Bonus: You are now better at Magic. Enjoy those extra wins!
If you are not running black Flametongue Kavu is pretty decent. Lot of the other creatures that enter the battlefield and deal damage to a creature either deal less (and sometimes costing less mana), depend on some condition to do the damage or cost more. Inferno Titan alone can't kill Seedborn Muse.
i run it to fantastic effect feldon of the third path. it almost always kills something, and that 4 power is a decent rattlesnake or way to push some extra damage through since no one wants to block it with their oracle mul daya
"ETB kill most creatures" is still a pretty good effect in this format. So, while, as has been pointed out, black has better options to achieve the same effect, if you don't have access to those and care about either ETBs or having creatures in general, this is a solid bit of removal.
Throw one in Dinosaur tribal. So if removing a creature isn't necessary you can draw a card off Ripjaw Raptor or give all your creatures +1+1 counters from Bellowing Aegisaur.
It kills a lot, but if used generically its still a 4 mana creature that kills creatures, ok but not awesome, and with restrictions at that. However, there are a few things that can make it better. If you have blink effects its better of course, but that's true for all such effects. Having creatures that you want to hit with damage gives it value, but its also has 4 power, which can be relevant. I'd say its fringe though, good but you need the right deck, or just fine in budget.

The biggest problem with single target removal in EDH is that it's necessary, but puts you down N-1 card parity, where N is equal to the number of opponents. This compensates somewhat as a 4/2 replacement for your card, and it further works well as a meagre defender that no opponent is going to be happy spending their removal on, while still being a large enough body to be relevant. Overall it works as a Commander precon to me, since it's a nice stepping stone component in the first iteration of any nonblack deck.
ITT: A bunch of players horribly mis-evaluate the power level and ubiquity that FTK brings to the format and the colour in general. As an olde player, I hang my head in shame at those that suggest it "doesn't do enough" to be worth a slot. For shame.
This guy right alongside Fire Imp are the BFFs. No, don't laugh (okay, laugh at the Imp, he is overly ugly) but really before you say a 2/1 that shocks a guy isn't "good enough" I want you to really think about how many x/2s are prominent in the format. Now, imagine doubling that damage, power, and toughness for just 1 more. FTK is the original posterboy for power creep, and if it were printed today would still be power creep to the nth degree.

Yep. There are a few cards that it can't kill, but the question is how many staples? I mean, the Titans and Primordials, but what else? Divinity of Pride? Avacyn, Angel of Hope? (Actually a lot of things in a typical Kaalia deck. Fortunately it can kill Kaalia herself if she doesn't put on her boots.)
And of course, feel free to use Dictate of the Twin Gods and friends to make it even more deadly. (Actually, using this, a damage doubler or two, and Stuffy Doll sounds fun.)

Traded all of my copies when they were expensive because of modern and didn't really look back. I remember this being one of the sadder things to open when the set first came out, along with Dormant Gomazoa and Disaster Radius.

I mean, but Banefire can't be prevented, and you don't gain life if the damage isn't prevented.
You would only prevent one damage from Squallmonger to your own self. This card only prevents damage to you, and only one instance of the damage.
As iconic as this is, I don't think of it as a commander card, and as if to prove me wrong, the version that popped up is from a commander precon.
