I once killed a very cocky Oloro player with this bad boy. He had sunk a ton of life into Necropotence leaving him around 18 life. He had just the turn before reset the board with Austere Command leaving this bad boy as the only other permanent on the field. I had 2 card in hand, a Forest and Rampant Growth. So he tapped out for something(don’t recall, didn’t care), and then I top decked Explosive Vegitation, tapped out and rocked his world with 20/20 Baloth. Then I died a few turns later because I couldn’t draw another threat to save my life. I was happy tho.
Flavour aside, I've considered running it in decks that don't have ready access to tutors when I've got a key piece that needs to drop into play, but damn it's expensive. I've always liked the artwork though.

When Ring was printed, my Karn deck ran Planar Portal. I made the swap, because I rarely need more than 3 tutors, am capable of resetting it if need be (or I can just turn it into a 5/5 to beat with once the wishes are done), and if anyone were to steal it, they're limited in how many tutors they can get out of it.
don't be too sure about that. I've been beaten to a pulp with a bludgeon brawl-activated planar portal (alongside many other silly things like mountain that was equipified via mycosynth lattice). that 6 power is a-beatin' when done right.
i can't say i've seen the ring used before though. though i recall a mate having a "equip planeswalker" deck, where it was filled with all sorts of silly rings and hats. actually, wotc really should bring about an equip-player card type. sorta like equipment, but for planeswalkers/players. that'd be awesome.

That's where the "usually" comes in. There are always unusual situations. Which is part of what makes the format wonderful.
Obviously way too expensive for what it does, mana-wise. But it's a tutor-anything card that doesn't actually cost that much, dollar-wise, and goes in any deck, so it has its uses. Especially cute if you run it in Atraxa, Praetors' Voice.
I can see playing it in situations where you do not have access to the proper tutors... like a green deck that wants to tutor Genesis Wave... but I just cannot see myself wanting to play this over a threat. Diabolic Tutor is not very good in EDH. It just costs too much mana. I just don't want to have a 10-mana tutor... not for anything.
Usually better than Planar Portal, but I'm pretty sure I'm only using this to tutor things my colors can't tutor. Yeah, cards like this (things like Scour from Existence) really give you a good idea what "only give colorless what you're willing to give the weakest color in that area" entails. With Scour, it's mostly because of enchantments. I imagine with this, it's mostly again because it's something red should be bad at.

Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!
I mean, I would play it in Karlov of the Ghost Council..
Unfortunately, this is not very impactful in EDH. There are other lands that can gain more life and offer more utility.
Do you have lifegain triggers as the focal point of your deck? If so, this is pretty good. If not, its pretty bad.

Onering's 4 simple steps that let you solve any problem with Magic's gameplay
Whether its blue players countering your spells, red players burning you out, or combo, if you have a problem with an aspect of Magic's gameplay, you can fix it!
Step 1: Identify the problem. What aspect of Magic don't you like? Step 2: Find out how others deal with the problem. How do players deal with this aspect of the game when they run into it? Step 3: Do what those players do. Step 4: No more problem. Bonus: You are now better at Magic. Enjoy those extra wins!

I didn't even think of it when building my Karlov deck. It wouldn't be bad, I suppose, but so far I haven't missed it.
I suppose it's okay if unexciting in a colorless deck.
Pretty much anywhere else, I can't imagine running it.

I don't think it is an auto-include in Karlov. It doesn't help you cast Karlov or use his ability. Sometimes, you will only get a few lands in play and it can really hurt to have this over Scoured Barrens.
But, I would think that many builds can use it without too much detriment.

On the nose, this.
Edgar often has a lifegain subtheme so he likes this; Oloro definitely likes it considering it ETBs untapped and so can just pay for his triggered ability...

I haven't seen Bludgeon Brawl used a lot, but it's important to accessorize with Mountains.

Considering general consensus on lifegain and how good colorless lands should be, I seen this hit many tables and do good things.
