Ixalan released an interesting new Black Mythic rare sorcery, Boneyard Parley. I wanted to hear what people think about this card.
Obviously there's probably better reanimation spells and effects in EDH, but I think this is a really nice budget option for reanimating creatures.
Pros:
- You can choose up to 5 creatures from ANY graveyard.
- You get the final choice even though an opponent chooses the piles to put them in.
- 7 mana for up to 5 creatures (Average 2-3) is a pretty decent deal considering you'll likely be snagging some good cards worth the mana.
Cons:
- It costs 7 mana.
- It's a sorcery.
- Your opponent still gets to make the piles from which you choose from, which could technically be a downside.
I'm currently testing it out in my The Ur-Dragon deck. My deck ramps fairly easily so the mana cost isn't an issue, and if I'm only choosing cards from my own graveyard, I'm likely going to be getting my mana's worth in reanimated Dragons.
I could also see this being neat in a "Stealing" type of deck where you want to play all of your opponent's things, or maybe in an instant/sorcery based deck where you could potentially copy it for shenanigans.
I think the card's main draw is that multiplayer politics turns this card's greatest weakness into its greatest strength, though your chosen opponent might not be as enthused about letting you have that Iona, Shield of Emeria compared to slipping you a board wipe with Fact or Fiction.
Boneyard Parley lets you combo out, for example, if you get something like Karmic Guide and Reveillark (and up to 3 other creatures) when you have a sac outlet in play. I think the card is somewhere between FoF, Gifts Ungiven, and Rise of the Dark Realms.
I like that Parley lets you hit your own graveyard. Rise of the Dark Realms costing 2 more is the only thing that makes me hesitate to include this.
I still have to test it in practice but I already ordered one and will be running it in a deck themed around reanimating opponent's creatures. It may not be the best card printed to date for these effects but I think it's more powerfull then people give it credit for. It;s 3 mana cheaper than Rise of the Dark Realms and that's a lot even in Commander. I also love the fact that it's a card that will allow you to regain footing immediately in the late game if someone throws a board wipe. If you have 7 mana you will never be sorry to draw this and that makes it very playable in my book.

The secret to enjoyable Commander games is not winning first, but losing last.
If my post has no tags, then i posted from my phone.
This is the equivalent of a party game card, and the spikes here evaluating this in what is strictly better optimized functionality terms shouldn't bother. Anyone who compares this to Rise of the Dark Realms or whatever "better" card is completely missing the point and what this card does for the game. I will be happily running this in my "opponents choose" theme deck. So much fun to make my opponents have to decide their own doom.

I am currently testing this in a Yidris spellslinger deck with a tinge of crazy. It seems fun even if not optimal (v.s. Sepulchral for instance).

I like the concept of the card, but it will be one of those situational cards that has a chance of being dead vrs many opponents. What if the opponents don't play creatures, or the game(s) tend to end before a 7-cmc semi-uncontrollable reanimation spell helps?
To always have some sort of value off it then you yourself will need to have mass creatures, or a deck that dredges/buried alives, and doesn't want to use more cost efficient targeted reanimation. Past the above Scion comment (where patriarch's bidding would seem better), I'm not sure what sort of deck that fits in.
Don't get me wrong - the card is fun and very cool. But it isn't going to work in my own group. Some of these big splashy fun/cool but situational cards (telemin performance/stolen goods/clone legion/ezuri's predation/mirror match/etc), are fun to experience, but are quickly removed for more reliable cards.
Had it been an instant then it would be a more in interesting end-of-turn effect. That is the part I dislike the most - since fact or fiction and it's variants are typically all instant speed.

Ah, but is your opponent nice enough to put Reveillark and Karmic Guide in the same pile?
Living Death also caught my eye as a "card I would play before this". No stealing, but I can leave one or more players completely unguarded with some graveyard hate.

Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!
Not bad. Rise of the dark realms os better but i stillnlime tbe card. At the very least. You can also hit a graveyard and exile stuff from reanimate decks.
Ah, but is your opponent nice enough to put Reveillark and Karmic Guide in the same pile?
Probably not, but considering you got both in your yard, you get to combo off no matter which pile you choose. If one of the pieces is not yours, it wouldn't work anyway.
Brain fart. I was thinking it would exile. (Of course, the other big Reveillark combo is Body Double.)
Still, for non-graveyard-oriented combos, you'll never get both.
