I must be missing something really key, or I just overestimate U - I just have a hard time imagining a deck without counterspell backup powering it's combo through a table full of counterspells waiting for it.

I'm surprised at the names that you don't see being mentioned this time around, at least yet: Damia and Oloro in control; Kaalia in aggro; Mimeoplasm in combo. I suppose that a lot of those initial commander product legends might've been flavor of the month, at least to a degree... or perhaps they've just been outclassed by newer releases.
Thanks for the replies, all. We're starting to get enough data to see some trends emerging. Don't let those influence your voting too much, though Keep 'em coming!
Only commander I play in my list is actually Maelstrom Wanderer. Probably the most fun deck I have, too, but I can barely play it because people hate Cascade as a mechanic. Same with Yidris. I had a Marchesa deck that was super fun though, might rebuild it if I can optimize it but Grixis is not my favorite color combo.
I don't play very many decks so I don't have a response for many of these but I think Yidris, Maelstrom Wielder is one of the most fun combo commanders, and is also very powerful. So numbers 1 and 6. I was surprised I didn't see him on the list!
Okay so a lot of these decks I would consider top tier but there are some really, really good ones that I believe need there spot up there since dominaria.

If you have never played this deck it sucks so hard. It’s commander is a two drops that shuts off all non creature cmc 4 or greater and non creature with x in cost. It does not take much for this deck to set up. And if you run into a ranumup excataver oracle of mul daya wasteland stripmine combo early it’s gg. You will never even have 4 mana to play with and teeg shuts off things even if you did. Paired with a captain sissy and elvish piper it’s like “oops hers avacyn for one mana, oops Iona your color in response to you casting a spell, oops elseh norm your tokens, kozoliek into counter magic, void winnower etc etc.
on top of Thalia making things cost more. Dueling grounds making one creature attack, torpor orb shutting off etb, winter and static orb to just completely screw you, this deck is by far one of the best one vs one commanders ever. Also it holds its own super well as a multiplayer control deck. It’s so funny to sit at a table and be like I’m playing control, and pull out a g/w deck.
2) Gisheth Dino’s enrage combo.
RITE OF PASSAGE AND PYROHEMIA MAKE DINOS FREAKING NUTS! So say you don’t even have pyrohemia you have for runner of the Dino’s and it pings all creatures when a Dino etbs right? You have warstorm surge out? Cool play a polyraptor (which you can search for with forerunner) and with rite of passage and warstorm surge you have a infinite polyraptor etb triggering warstorm and infinite damage. Also whatever else enrage is on board. Infinite draw, life, search your deck for basic, opponent sacs a permenant whatever your feeling. Not to mention you ramp to gisheth and hit even once combo pieces will hit the board. The card that stacks three creatures on top of your library? Good with gisheth. Holy crap. So for multiplayer combo or fun I would put Dino’s up there for sure.
3) shattergang sac stax.
This deck is so mean. You hit a gravepact and dictate with a freaking flesh bag that has undying from a mikaes that’s a board wipe in its self. That’s sac 6 creatures. If you have it that betrays out that’s everyone at your table scooping. Not even that it has so much more gas. Bolsters the milira murderous redcap combo, woodfall primus, shattergang removes a lot. Infinite mana in nim deathmante ashnods alter and grave titan this deck also SUCKS
Baral, Chief of Compliance should at least be in the running for best 1v1, considering that every Commander of worth except for traditional has killed the Polymorph deck that made him notorious. He and Jace, Vrynn's Prodigy can run pretty competitive High Tide strategies as well.
I think we need some more DATA........

I agree, we do need more data, and hopefully lots of it. I've tallied all the votes from posts 33-42. Thanks for the input.
In general, I find it interesting that a lot of the older "staple" commanders of each archetype aren't getting mentioned much (i.e. Sharuum combo, Kaalia aggro, etc.). The question I'm asking myself is whether this is due to the fact that EDH is something of a FOTM format and people like to brew, build, and play the newer commanders or because newer options are just "strictly better." I think it's a bit of both, but I do think there is something to be said about the fact that WotC has been printing cards that really outclass some of the former leaders in their respective archetypes and bring the whole format to a new level of possible brokenness (Derevi, Empyrial Tactician stax, Teferi, Temporal Archmage combo, etc.). I also feel like EDH is more of a "solved" format than it was even a few years ago, with a far greater accessibility to information on how to build and fine tune decks.

EDIT: or Helm of Obedience + Leyline of the Void? or Mike + Trike?

Maybe not the true "best" here, and also I had a hard time deciding because it really depends how you make the deck.
1) Best multiplayer COMBO commander: Teferi, Temporal Archmage
2) Best multiplayer CONTROL commander: Brago/Derevi

4) MOST FUN commander to play in multiplayer: Marchesa, the Black Rose

Runner ups include:
Combo- Glissa, Narset
Control- Oloro, Tasigur/Damia(rip Leo)
Aggro- mono-red Grenko, Saskia
Username: Cabz
2) Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir - just ridiculous how many deck techs he hoses.
3) Marchesa, the Black Rose - So resilient, it's fantastic.
4) Gonti, Lord of Luxury - Try it out!
5) Tasigur, the Golden Fang - "At least i get to do something".
9) Alesha, Who Smiles at Death - Love her!
10) Sidar Kondo of Jamuraa - Want to see him paired with the right guy (e.g. Ezuri, Renegade Leader) somewhen.
