Marrow-Gnawer rat tribal is awesome and I think, compared to things like wizards, elves, goblins etc. it's underrated.
But if you build it with 20+ Relentless Rats, we're no longer friends. : P
I used to have an insect tribal deck headed by Xira Arien. Generally, it sucked; but Wizards has printed a a fair number of good insects recently, so maybe it's gotten better.
I forgot Derevi plus 40 birds tribal, the only time Derevi isn't cheese.

Onering's 4 simple steps that let you solve any problem with Magic's gameplay
Whether its blue players countering your spells, red players burning you out, or combo, if you have a problem with an aspect of Magic's gameplay, you can fix it!
Step 1: Identify the problem. What aspect of Magic don't you like? Step 2: Find out how others deal with the problem. How do players deal with this aspect of the game when they run into it? Step 3: Do what those players do. Step 4: No more problem. Bonus: You are now better at Magic. Enjoy those extra wins!
There's always the option of playing overplayed tribes with an underplayed commander or in an underplayed way. Goblins can be a lot of fun as a combo deck with Zada, Token Grinder and the weekly SCG Commander games recently featured treefolk helmed by Sapling of Colfenor.
Also, a friend of mine plays Banding tribal with Ayesha Tanaka at the helm.
5 color Avatar tribal, with Progenitus as commander. Could also be Child of Alara but that seems anti-synergetic as most avatars are costly manawise. Fill it out with underplayed but synergetic cards. There are 65 avatars in Magic as of now (Sha/eventide hybrid cycle, prophecy cycle, primordial cycle etc.) While not all playable, you could make a selection of say, 20 - 25 to build a deck around.

The secret to enjoyable Commander games is not winning first, but losing last.
If my post has no tags, then i posted from my phone.
Cleric tribal could be done with Ayli, Eternal Pilgrim.
Havnt seen that since Onslaught
I'll second cleric tribal, as it has a lot of fun synergies and loops, but instead recommend it's new partners: Tymna the Weaver and Ravos Soultender.
I third Cleric Tribal. Though I actually agree with Ayli leading the deck, as she's insanely good. Much better in my opinion, than having both of the Orhzov partners, just by herself. With that said, Ravos and Tymna could still be in the 99, since they're still great Clerics.
I just cannot stress enough how great Ayli is though. She's cheap. She's a sacrifice outlet. She gains life, which is actually especially relevant in a Cleric deck since here are many Cleric effects that care about your life. But best of all, she acts as removal for ANY nonland permanent. Seriously, how can you not absolutely love a Commander that can kill not just Creatures, but also Artifacts, Enchantments, and Planeswalkers, through indestructible even?
Damn, I really want to make an Ayli Cleric deck now.
I'm not looking to hear about the overused tribes in EDH (Elves, Eldrazi, Wizards, Zombies, Dragons, Merfolk, Silvers, Goblins and Vampires)
Commander players love tribal decks so much, I'd be shocked if any decent tribe exists that hasn't already been done to death.
Case in point - Vampires? Eldrazi? Merfolk? Who is helming these "overplayed" tribes?
Vampires have a few synergistic-ish commanders but they're all horrible like baron sengir and anowon. Olivia and kalitas (1.0) turns things into vampires, but she doesn't really benefit from you playing any additional vampires. There's only a few vampire lords and not many playable vampires at all for commander.
eldrazi? Save a few lands, emrakul's influence, and kozileks return, I can't find a single eldrazi synergy card out there. Definitely none in the commander slot, especially since all the eldrazi legends prevent you from playing emrakul's influence or kozilek's return. I guess you can put a bunch of eldrazi together in a deck, but there's no synergy to be had.
Even merfolk only have 1 tribal commander who sees little play.
If you actually want a tribe that has any significant synergy, especially in the command zone, that hasn't been played a million times, I'd say your odds are pretty much zero.
If you want to pick a random creature type with zero synergy whatsoever and pack a bunch of mediocre creatures with that type into a deck, then I'd say this thread has lots of great suggestions
Eldrazis are overused in the format, maybe not necessairly in a tribal way, but there are numerous decks with at least a couple mythic Eldrazi because they are the most powerful creatures in the game.
Vampires might not be overplayed but they have a tremendous amount of support in recent years with two Innistrad sets.
cleric is mentioned, they got some fun stuff, you could have a demon/monster as commander so they worship that (Athreos, God of Passage?) athreos cleric with the demon cultists is also cool idea..
but it's similar to the rat deck with thrumming etc
Mechanic cards can also make "tribe" synergistic decks, like the horrors already mentioned, fungus, saproling cards, they dont have to have a lord per se. most are pretty bad though, there should be more cards like the hunted circle, or creatures that deal dmg to opponents when they get dmged. meh
why is dirk attacking people/ideas for no reason, some people have fun with mediocre decks, you shouldn't care that much
Saprolings have a ton of tribal support but I don't see a lot of buzz about them at all. And with the newly released Tana, the Bloodsower partnered with another general of your choice you can get the right colors to get all the available good Saproling support cards (which are all in non-blue).

I think tana works best maybe with Sidar and playing a sort of Zerg Rush type game.

This aint your girlfriends meta! This is a man's meta! TURBO META.
Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!

That was my first thought, too. Possibly with repeatable instant speed buffs so that you can slip under you're opponent's defenses with Kondo and then smack them in the face/make a lot of tokens with Tana guaranteed.
Personally, I'm brewing her paired with Ravos, Soultender because I don't want to lock myself out of black and miss out on pretty good Saprolings support like Ghave.

Damn straight, fam. It can include Blasting Station for infinite damage and Ashnod's Altar/Phyrexian Altar for infinite mana. Interactions with things like Grave Pact/Dictate of Erebos are hilarious.
Good stuff. Not top tier, but hella fun.

It was unnecessary to include them in that list, considering the title you put on this thread. After all, Vampires suck.
I've done this. She even comes with her own prophet. Also included a Miracles package, because what is a God without Miracles?
