I'm interested in hearing about underrated tribal decks with themes, synergies, and unique interactions. I'm not looking to build something that's crappy. It doesn't have to be tier one, but I am looking to hear about interesting decks that can win, stay on tribal, and don't rely on winning with infinite combos.
I'm not looking to hear about the overused tribes in EDH (Elves, Eldrazi, Wizards, Zombies, Dragons, Merfolk, Silvers, Goblins and Vampires)
I'd be curious about a deck with a Defender theme, or maybe Spiders. Something unique that would raise eyebrows at a table, potentially fly under the radar but really do very well. Doesn't have to be just one tribe, maybe two together. I'm particularly interested in really strong cards that don't seem like they have a lot of support (Cards like Pheres-Band Warchief and Scarblade Elite comes to mind, although I don't expect to build a tribal deck that is so fringe). Maybe tribal changlings?
I put together an Ishkanah, Grafwidow shortly after Eldritch Moon came out. Haven't gotten around to update it in a bit, but it is a very fun deck to play (at least in my opinion). Other than that you could always do what my friend did and build Wall tribal with all of the "defender matters" cards like Vent Sentinel. It was a HORRIBLE list from a competitive view, and it was incredibly fun to surprise strangers at the game store with.
Doran is the defender/treefolk tribal go to. Not exactly unique or unknown tribe by a longshot..
Ishkanya is the obvious spider tribal and.... well...also not surprising since she was just printed.
A truly obscure tribal is something like Omni-tribal/voltron with Mistform Ultimus (the deck runs Lords of all types in U and takes advantage of his unique typing). Or tribal Atog... NO ONE anticipates tribal Atog...

This aint your girlfriends meta! This is a man's meta! TURBO META.
Changelings isn't super obscure, but there is definitely enough 'changeling' lords and ability-granters to make it IMO the most interesting tribe option. Like "Tap 7 Druids steal all the lands" type stuff.
You only get style points if it's not Reaper King though.

EDH RRGrenzo plays your deck, GGYeva's mono green control, WW9-tails trys desperately for monowhite not to suck RWBUTymna and Kraum's saboteur tribal, UWG Kestia's Enchantress Aggro, RUB Jeleva casts big dumb spells, RGB Vaevictis' big critters can kill your critters hard

That is why I like Mistform Ultimus EDH lol. Oathkeeper makes him nearly unlikeable. Obsidian Waraxe is haste and free equip. Cloak and dagger is also a free equip :p. And you can use stuff like the Merfolk Lords to boost the Ultimus and things like Azami to draw off him if you didn't attack lol.

I haven't seen a strong changeling deck before in EDH.
I would be interested in a 4 or 5 color Changling deck, what are some of the key cards and unique interactions?

i have to say tho, the mistform ultimus mono-u tribal effects deck is probably the coolest idea, not really a tribal deck per-se, more a voltron, but it can be pretty epic when you consider the interactions possble even within just mono-u.
I don't know if its "underrated" but Horde of Notions Elemental deck is certainly a powerful tribal deck. However its 5 colors so the mana base is a billions dollars
Someone around here (Tristan?) used to have a Lovisa deck that would surprise people...but you guessed it, if the game dragged on, the deck could not compete. That was before the slew of newer red draw effects, though.
Boros Giants is mana-intensive, but fun. Thassa sea-monsters is more a mix of tribes - octopus, kraken, leviathan, etc.- but another fun, albeit mana-intensive, deck. Trample tribal under Stonebrow, Krosan Hero is much less mana-intensive, and only plays creatures that inherently have trample, so pretty much no utility critters can be run.
Cheers!

If in the area, check out Gamers N Geeks and Mini War Games in Mobile, Alabama and Underhill's Games in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.
Also, it's not necessarily a tribal deck, but Rebels with Lin Sivvi is a pretty fun, interactive deck that can end up being quite competitive. I've beat a couple of decks that should be way above the tier of a monowhite deck.
Marrow-Gnawer rat tribal is awesome and I think, compared to things like wizards, elves, goblins etc. it's underrated.
But if you build it with 20+ Relentless Rats, we're no longer friends. : P

5 color almost mono green Hydra ramp headed by progs.
Heliod is a good cleric general
Angels probably aren't underrated, and decent enough headed by OG Linvala
Ephara human tribal 56 creature white/blue beatdown is surprisingly good
Stonebrow can be a centaur tribal deck, as many already have trample.

Onering's 4 simple steps that let you solve any problem with Magic's gameplay
Whether its blue players countering your spells, red players burning you out, or combo, if you have a problem with an aspect of Magic's gameplay, you can fix it!
Step 1: Identify the problem. What aspect of Magic don't you like? Step 2: Find out how others deal with the problem. How do players deal with this aspect of the game when they run into it? Step 3: Do what those players do. Step 4: No more problem. Bonus: You are now better at Magic. Enjoy those extra wins!

Marrow-Gnawer works best with Thornbite Staff - as long as you have two other rats, you now have infinite rats (and infinite death triggers).
I was mostly talking about the Relentless Rats.dec lol. In that case, you run a wall of tutors, mana rocks, Thrumming stone, and relentless rats. Then win with an army of relentless rats, or Altar of Dementia, or marrow-gnawer+Blood artist+Phyrexian/ashnods Altar
