So we know they are on the way and this isn't about the cards themselves but more about how the colors will be distributed.
Since the Legendary stuff and Flip cards has seemingly been solved, how would you like to see these things be?
4 Colors on the Top Right
1-2-3 Colors on the Top with Abilities of the remaining colors
1 Color that Flips into the other 3
3 Colors that Flips down into 1
2 on one side two on the other
Well in theory we'll get at least two commanders per deck(and hopefully three) so I imagine we'll get one 4 color and I hope an alternate will be mono or dual color with off color abilities.
I've been thinking that we get errata'd OG Nephilim to be legendary or new-version legendary Nephilim that have all 4 colors in the top right. I doubt they'd do flip cards without some sort of flavor involved.
My guess is 4 color on the top right and one with a 2/2 or 1/3 split between color in cost and abilities for each deck. I don't know what the third legend is going to be.
I would like one set to be two allied colors (Say, UB) with an ability that is the next two colors (so RW) for one pair, and the second set being all four colors (WUBR)
For the first set, I kind of see it as a UB commander that kills creatures above 4-5 Power, and draws a card for each creature killed. Keeps it low to the ground (Which WR love) and draws cards (Which is UB) for control.

Oath of the Gatewatch; the set that caused the competitive community to freak out over Basic Lands.
I would honestly prefer the simplest version - 5 new commanders with 4-6 converted mana cost and all 4 colors in the mana cost. However, Wizards is due to let me down so I predict a new gimmick will be unveiled.
I want them to cost hybrid mana to where they can be 4 color but be played by 2 or 3 color decks and not necessarily need to use the 2nd or 3rd color.
For example,
You could play this as Mardu, Jeskai, Grixis or Esper, or Boros, Izzet, Azorius and Rakdos.
They could make playing four colors an incentive by making them more powerful for each color used to cast them similar to Convergence from BFZ. A lot of ways they could go with it. I just don't want the Nephilim design.
This is probably not an original piece of speculation, but I'd like to see "Commander Emblems" that you can begin the game with that essentially say "You may have cards called Ink-Treader Nephalhim be your commander". That'd be the most elegant way to enable the original Nephalhim in my mind, at least.

For me, I want either something like this, some functional errata (of which many say is unlikely), or making "new" commanders that are updated versions of the original nephilim.

New versions of the original Nephilim characters seems extremely likely to me.
Yeah I'd say updated Nephalhim are almost certainly going to be added, but hey, whynotboth.gif? I mean they're also going to contain the original ones for flavor reasons, and it would be pretty feel bad to have them represented as non-commander viable.
The new ones are either going to go upscale with larger costs and bigger abilities, or downscale with something like hybrid or activation costs to represent all four colors.
4 color legendary creatures? No way that would never happen.
I hope that is attempted sarcasm or something, as 4 color commander decks have been announced by WotC for 2016.
As for how they do the new commanders, it is likely they will do 2-3 4 color commanders for each deck, and I am hoping that one requires each of the 4 colors, and then another is either hybrids or has some of the colors only in abilities.
either commanders that cost 2 colours either in the form of CD or hybrid C/D C/D
plus 2 colour activated abilities in the others colours in the form of either AB or hybrid A/B A/B
for example a creature that costs GB
with activated abilities of either UR or hybrid UR (wasn't sure how to type hybrid UR into the mana symbols)
or creatures that cost one colour to cast then activated abilities of 3 different colours
such as a creature that costs B to cast then activated abilities in some form of UGR
I think it would be cool to see a 3 color that flips into a single color. As in, something causes a shift in thw creature's identity and they "find themselves"
Good-stuff generals would definitely be super lame. Reprinting the original nephilim as legendary would be fantastic. Their abilities are all interesting with none of them being overly annoying. They are all quite simple to understand and mostly make sense for their colours.
I don't like the idea of flip ones. Flipping to two completely separate colours just feels awkward to me. I would prefer if it were more like sygg, river guide to sygg, river cut-throat. Switching completely to two new colours or from 3 colours to one colour is just such a huge swing. The character of the card would have to lose so much of its original side.
Look at the planeswalkers. They come in many forms but usually have some reflection of their roots. Sarkhan is red in all of his forms even though he has touched 4 out of 5 colours.
I think a cycle with one of each symbol in the mana cost (maybe some colourless) would be good (could be just reprint of original nephilim cycle as legendary). Then one or two colour creatures with 2-3 off-colour abilities for a second cycle. That is what I'd like to see.
Seeing how wotc wants to release a new commander product every year and this being a yet untouched area of design, they will probably just go with the simplest execution in the form of 4+ mana costs with each color of mana present at least once in the cost. The variations with hybrid mana or off color activation costs they can save for later. People will buy this anyway. Remember it's a business.

This is pretty much impossible to design, though. Making a Commander that feels Orzhov, but can be played as Izzet? Can't really fit that in the color pie any way. I would like at least a single hybrid mana involved in their costs, though. Flexibility is nice.

Well, that problem sums up why MaRo says 4-color cards are so problematic that they don't do them regardless of how they're costed. But, they had to do something outside-of-the-box to do them to devote their one Commander release for the year to it
I think they're going the off color activation route - something like
Commaner BR
Creature - Type
Sacrifice a creature: Creature tokens you control get +1/+1 until end of turn.
W: Target creature token gains lifelink until end of turn.
G: Target creature token gains deathtouch until end of turn.

EDIT: I prefer Nephilim though, even though they're near impossible to design. The Nephilim effects were very build-around, they would have made great commanders.

no really. these things are going to have to be out of this world in terms of build-around-me-ness or its just 4 color goodstuff pile.

Feels like such a waste giving us enemy colors last year, skipping allied colors and then doing 4-color, but c'est la vie.
I rather see them focus on the allied pair, and then splash the enemy colors.
