cryogen, out of curiosity, do you play edh (or magic) at any other stores around Baltimore? I had never realized you were a Baltimore person before this thread, even though I see you everywhere on here. I currently play edh on Sunday at Canton Games and FNM at Collector's Corner and occasionally go to Brewport for Legacy (by that I mean rarely). Just curious if you are someone I've met or know in real life. lol.
On topic, I may have to come out sometime soon. Unfortunately I work in Annapolis, so it would be a little bit of a drive after work.

Not really. I live up in Cockeysville so driving halfway around the Beltway doesn't appeal to me. I played a few times at Collectors Corner because I like Randy and shopped there for years when I was still reading comics. Sadly, his EDH night never caught on and I didn't feel like driving down just to find out no one was playing. Alternate Worlds and Titan Games both have decent turnouts for their league so I don't have to go far.
If you're looking for a league that's not at night in the middle of the week, Alternate Worlds does theirs every other Sunday.
Yeah... Collector Corner's Wednesday night edh is pretty bad... (or at least the couple times I have shown up.) I have convinced over half the standard crowd to play edh so those of us that do horribad in the first couple rounds of FNM typically drop and play edh for the remained of the night. So I have gotten that odd scene going.
I've been up to Alternate Worlds several times for FNMs, and I really like the people who run the store. Unfortunately, the player base is too young for my tastes, so I stopped going there for Standard.
Since you guys start at 7, I can probably make the drive from Annapolis after work (I get off at 5) in an up coming week.

Awesome! As a heads up, next week is the last week of the current league, then we'll be taking a two week break because no one will show up Xmas or New Years Eve, then begin season 2 the following week. The first week of the season we randomly pick the points from the second list, so what is currently in post #2 will change.
Oh, and most importantly, let me know who you are so I can get the referral points

I run another league at Alternate Worlds every other sunday. We're about halfway through right now, although if you have some good games it would be possible to catch up on points. Games are from 12-5ish. The points are different, but are chosen from the same list. Player base for league is mostly 20s and 30s, just like at Titan.
I've ended up merging posts and using post #2 as the list for the individual season points. Season 3 is over, with the four places getting store credit: Mike, Jason, Christian, and Kyle respectively. Season Four will start up on Tuesday with a new set of rotating points.
Season 5 points list is up. We have discussed and will be implementing a new rotating random dukie starting next month. More details to follow as we decide on what to include.
I'm planning on setting up a league in the LGS that I frequent with other players.
I understand that from the OP and succeeding posts that player bases are around 20+.
Do you guys find difficulty in running leagues when the playerbase has an average of 8 to 10 players per day? What I would expect is that games would be 3-4 player pods for easier tracking, but due to the small playerbase, I worry that there might be some players that won't be able to play because are 2 players unable to play due to multiplayer rules.

Actually I'm just lazy. Another guy actually runs the league and I get the spreadsheet from him with all the info. The list in the first post is all the players who have ever played, rather than each month add and remove people from the list. on any given week we average enough people to break into two pods or three or four people. On occasion we have three pods, but that is rare.
As for managing it, we don't have trouble. We print out a points/score sheet for each pod, and then before each game we'll shuffle up tokens to determine pods. Each pod only gets one game, so if one pod finishes up before the other they can't play another league game for points without. If one pod drags on for an obscene amount of time we will make a consensus ruling and start a new game, but that is the exception and not the norm.

Thanks for the output. Do you happen to have a copy of said score sheet, assuming it has a particular format, or is it just a piece of paper with scribbled scores?
Hmm interesting on playing via pods. I had assumed that the way it would work is, if players decide they want to play, they will agree if they want it as a league game or not. If they do agree, then points are checked. With my assumption, it works for my playgroup that come in at erratic times. For example, I would start my league at 7pm up to 2am. Most of players would only arrive at around 8-9pm, even later. If I do it via pods, then it would take a long time waiting just to get a league game.

I don't have a copy on me but when I get home from work I can upload one. The way we run ours is at 7pm we figure out the pod size based on current number of players (say 7 for the sake of illustration). I'll get 3 and 4 tokens of two different types, shuffle them and players randomly pick the pod they'll be in. Then we all play a game for league points. Once each pod has finished their game we do it all over again with new random pods. If one pod finishes sooner they are welcome to play again but it isn't for points. Like I said, if one group is going long with no end in sight we have started a new league game, but that is extremely rare. If players show up late they just wait for the next.game to start, but everyone in our group knows that we start at 7 with or without them.
WAIT, so you get punished for having a good mana rock in your opening hand? If you have a problem with someone lucksaccing a sol ring opening hand, then maybe you should just ban the card. I mean honestly its all the luck of the draw, so you punish someone for being lucky.
Arcum dagsson, when i played it, I would have sol ring 9/10 games opening hand, it was ridiculous, it got to the point of my opponents all shuffling my deck and someone else drawing my hand for me. (Didn't change the rate at which sol ring was opening hand)
And when you get a goo mana rock are you seriously going to keep it in your hand for a turn just to not get that -1? What about general that only cost 1 or 2 mana, what if you need that boost to get your's out fast? Its silly to punish someone for having a bit of extra mana early game.

Let's face it, discussions a plenty have already been done about it, those rocks: Sol Ring, Mana Crypt, Mana Vault, gives a TON of advantage on the early game to the point of OP-ness. It doesn't hurt to delay the rock drop on turn 2 if you are *really* that worried on the -1.
If you look at the points carefully, you'll see that the -1 can sometimes be negated in the long term.
You play the game: +1 point
You drop the Sol Ring: -1
During the game, you gain around 2-3 points
You kill one opponent, that's 2 more points.
You would still get 5 points from the potential 6 or 7, which is not bad. I believe the penalty is there just to appease the all-benevolent "Spirit of EDH".

Yeah I'm not really interested in debating a T1 Sol Ring either. The kind of games we try to discourage are ones that get explosive starts, so this is a good dookie to have. In a four player game where you kill the rest of the table you get a minimum of six points, so taking a one point hit isn't that big of a deal when you stop other players from getting points.
Its just I have seen games of turn 1 sol ring, go against a deck that deosn't get T1 sol ring, But by turn 3, they are years ahead of you just due to a few ramp spells and are pumping out a turn 4 ulamog (Casting it, not cheaty face it out) Or having two flying blightseels turn 4. Sol ring, in that kind of environment only speeds it up a turn, not delay the inevitable, and your sol ring has not helped you at all.

I can't really comment on that since I'm not familiar with the meta that your playgroup has, or even your playgroup for that matter. I'm surprised how they can drop those things in turn 4.
cryogen: How does your league handling conceding? The points do not specify anything involving players giving up. Does it count as eliminating a player or not?
