On Time Stop: Powerful as it can be at its job, I still find it rather costly and would prefer my counterspells of that cost to do more... like draw a lot of cards. I suppose stopping the opponent from casting anything else is a rather substantial benefit as well, but more denial feels less satisfying than just gaining some benefits for myself.
It's just my own preference I don't favor this card, I do respect the sheer impact and power it has.
There was nothing random about today's card. For the last month I've been debating handing off the thread to Lou because of my schedule change and I thought this would be an amusing way to do it.
Thanks everyone for the kind words. It's been a rewarding experience for me and you guys have absolutely made me see some jank trash in a different light from time to time. I'm not going anywhere, but it was becoming a burden for me to do this every morning. Thankfully LouCypher was so willing to take over.
Well, I usually only visit this thread when I feel the card is interesting enough to read comments on (and it needs to be another tier of interesting or relevant for me to reply), but I could see the effort you put into maintaining the thread, making sure it's updated almost every day (and by someone else if you're not the one posting the card). Funny I just passed by yesterday and decided to jump at the opportunity to post the Card of the Day since I had the time and it turns out that would be the first and last time I do that in this thread... makes me doubly glad now I didn't end up with some Limited Fodder for that Card of the Day.
Well, you're pretty much always active here and since you said you will still be, I think it would be more appropriate to celebrate your freedom from having to post on a schedule instead. Still, thanks for all the running you did for this regular feature of these forums.
My favorite variations of counterspell are all 6 mana, and Time Stop might be the top. It's also absolutely number 1 on the list of really expensive pieces of cardboard I wish I owned by route of the tenth edition foil version that has no reminder text, only the words "End the turn."
You and me both. My friend pulled one back when Tenth was in Standard, and I'm still kicking myself for not trading it off him at the time. I did get his Grove of the Burnwillows for a fraction of its price today though, heh heh heh...

Thanks for running this thread, cryo. It's always entertaining to see what crap or hidden gem gets dredged up.
