You mean they didn't already? Was your meta full of B/R decks?
They did, but they all had maybe one card in the 99 like "it might be a good idea to have something for enchantments." One guy's only answer was Austere Command and he had no way to tutor for it. He just figured Austere Command was so good, he shouldn't need any other removal. Yes, it's been a learning experience for these guys.
OH! And this one Karador player... he put in about 7 creatures for getting rid of enchantments and even more ways to recur creatures. Then I played Humility. I didn't see him at meetups for two months.

"[Screw] you and the green you ramped in on." - My EDH battle cry. If I had one. Which I don't.

THAT ... Is amazing. I'm still giggling. I can't describe how much I love finding an answer to a deck engine that someone runs, and they just auto-quit. It's such a satisfying feeling > : )
Does that make me evil? O.o That might make me evil.
EOT I cast Fact or Fiction on turn 4-5 revealing Winter Orb, Storage Matrix, Stasis, Island, Tezzeret the Seeker. Comments are made about the lock pieces. I choose the Island + Tezz pile so I hopefully don't get triple teamed (since I can't set up a lock at this point). Then 2 of my opponents, instead of attacking me anyways, double team the monowhite player. This is not good threat assessment.
Just survived some mass layoffs in my department. Mixed feelings about the entire thing; glad I didn't lose my job, sad some other people did.
Best friend, pretty much the only guy I play Magic with or even really talk about it with anymore just ended our friendship because his wife doesn't like my girlfriend. Since they don't get along we can't be friends anymore. We've been friends since before he ever met her, and I am more than a little pissed off because she can't give a straight answer as to why she doesn't like my girl.
Another person I care about just had a heart attack, and has to go in for an angiogram or whatever to see what is what.

This is why I keep trying to tell Karador players to run more than just ETB removal. I've had a player literally scoop after I resolved Torpor Orb, and I've been on the wrong end of TO and Humility with Karador.
Speaking of, I need to add Demonic Tutor to it, and somehow get a second copy of Vampiric Tutor.
I just dropped like $250.00 to get a standard deck up and running. Purchasing 12 shocklands and 4 of the new scry lands to make it work didn't help... I probably could have bought less of the shocks but I strongly dislike sharing landbases between multiple formats.

I have officially moved to MTGNexus. I just wanted to let people know as my response time to salvation decks being bumped is very hit or miss.

What are you going to make? I was thinking of Gruul aggro then... I saw the prices... I'm good with RDW
I am in UWR control. Its more of a UR deck at the moment splashing white a bit lighter to try to be kind to the landbase currently (list in sig). Its a bit of a home-brew but I don't really like going mainstream so I have no idea what people are actually running nationally.
I had been thinking of going bant for the sweet hexproof mana dork but Anger the Gods sort of pushed me hard into UWR instead. I feel like my build is a little focused on anti aggro at the moment but we will see where the meta goes...

That's a lot of money to spend on a deck that may or may not even be competitive, and will not be legal in a year. Commander is the better format to invest in.

Hah, well except that you can't really "make your money back" by winning tourneys. On the plus side, though, it's actually fun.

I'm mostly giving ISB a hard time. While I don't have the slightest desire to play Standard, as a poker player I know how enjoyable it can be to sit at a table day after day to grind out a slow win.
Man.. As expected, Sheldon's article has influence on playgroups and it's already turning into some kind of war.
Why couldn't the guy teach tolerance, how to have fun, how to get groups to make decisions into house-bans instead of blatantly saying what cards/types he doesn't like. I know he repeated that it wasn't an "RC"'s vision but I already see two weird/troll/rage threads.
Played two games tonight at my LGS. Game one with Animar was a dud. I took a chance on a 2-land hand because I had Command Tower and Halimar Depths along with mana elfs. Figured I'd Halimar into my third land. Nope. By turn 7 the Kaalia player had killed off two players with Master of Cruelties and I was still on two lands. Seeing that he had one other player to kill, I Pact of Negationed his Swords to Plowshares for lulz and then died during my upkeep.
Game two ended with me comboing off with Wanderer: Wanderer, Erratic Portal, Sword of Feast and Famine, Time Warp, and Izzet Chronarch. My response: "Well, it wasn't as epic as a turn four Master of Cruelties, but it's a win."

Well, actually, that kind of was what the article was about.
He was advocating that when you build your deck, you pay attention to what will make the games fun for everyone, even if it would be very good for the deck.
Then he gave a list of examples that he's seen that fits the category. He even said at the beginning that not all cards were true of all people or playgroups, and that it was just a global encompassing of repeat offenders across the board, which would make it a good spot to turn a critical eye to.
It's an opinion piece, and should be construed as such.
Some people will take it as gospel, but thankfully I don't have to play with them if I really don't want to.
My playgroup doesn't really care about what you play, other than everyone gets pretty mad at infinite combos because they actually want to play the game. I'm also the only person who ever tries to play combo, so I'm the biggest target for the whole table EVERY SINGLE GAME. And sadly, they usually still can't kill me before I get the board to a winning state... Keep in mind, my playgroup is composed of mostly newer players (think about 1 year of experience, and I'm only 1 1/2 years) so they don't have access to most of the usual staples (unless they really want them, in which case they can buy certain things). Our group has never experienced MLD or Stax, but I'm guessing nearly the entire table would basically fold to it, simply because of the lack of answers to things. I swear, nearly every card I play in EDH goes unanswered at my tables, making it pretty easy to clean sweep with one or two powerhouses. Meanwhile, I'm running a solid amount of removal (maybe even not enough) so their things don't get to stick around for long, and if I encountered stax I could (hopefully) be the person to eliminate the first few stax effects. I wonder what would happen if I built stax/MLD and played with my group... I feel like I wouldn't be welcome for very long.
It's an opinion piece, and should be construed as such.
Some people will take it as gospel, but thankfully I don't have to play with them if I really don't want to.
That's my point, though.
I'd rather have him teach players how to accept cards so they can all sit at a table and have a great time instead of ignoring each other.
"For the greater good" n all that, right?
It's an opinion piece, and should be construed as such.
Some people will take it as gospel, but thankfully I don't have to play with them if I really don't want to.
Reasonable people will see it as such, the rest won't. Him openly saying he dislikes stax and MLD makes it harder for myself and others who don't want to play "big magic". I mentioned this in the thread, but I've already had to deal with people telling me I'm playing lame cards because Sheldon said so.
I'm really sick of the whole; "it's your job to make sure the other guy is having fun." Mentality of the format. Sure, if I was a baby sitter, it would be my job to make sure all the kids were having fun. But I'm an adult playing with other adults. If you're going to be upset that you drew 25 cards because of Csphinx (a card not on Sheldon's list) then you die to someone playing vicious shadows (a card ON Sheldon's list) followed by a doom blade on said Cspinx, and you complain... I'm sorry, but you're a sore loser and a child.

When you have as much influence as Sheldon does, you don't get to have harmless opinions anymore. Regardless of what his personal beliefs about the format are, he needs to be objective about things.
