"Is there anything in the west I should be weary of?"
This is the most hilariously midwestern thing I have ever read.
Q: Is there anything in the west I should be weary of?
A: Cattle Rustlers.
A: Train Robbers.
A: Indians.
A: Cholera and dysentery.
A: LA Police.
A: The gays.
A: this list will just tail spin into the more and more ridiculous stereotypes.
Sorry, but I am just smiling about this. I've lived in Colorado and Oregon my whole life except when I was in college and most places in the US are about the same. The biggest difference is that I travel with gatorade bottles to pee in because, unlike places east of the Missouri River, you can go a long time between gas stations. LIke this... 160 miles without a gas station.

There also tends to be a lot more diversity. Not to sound totally like a bumpkin or anything but where I live, like 90+% of everyone seems to be white Caucasian. At least I grew up in what we call a city out here because you get to the small towns and it narrows to like 98% Caucasian population. It gets a little in general.

I have officially moved to MTGNexus. I just wanted to let people know as my response time to salvation decks being bumped is very hit or miss.

That's how it is where I live too, and that's after I moved away from the small town I grew up in. >.<
It gets pretty boring when everyone looks and acts the same.

Wait, what? One of the greatest joys in this life or the next is outdoor urination, and you're going to deny yourself that when you have the most ample of opportunities? You, sir, bring shame to your clan.
I'm probably never going to get a tattoo, mainly since I'm afraid of needles and couldn't bear it.
And since the (off) topic briefly steered back towards tattoos, I got the first session on my side done yesterday. It's about thirteen inches tall, and the second session is going to stretch it onto my chest and back. The ribs weren't as bad as people were saying, but the stuff on the stomach that was directly above vital organs suuuuuuuuuuucked. I could feel the vibrations of the needle in whatever organ they were over, and it felt like they were bruising. It didn't help that my tattoo artist and I were talking about harder vs. softer tattooing and he had mentioned that guys with a harder approach can bruise organ tissue. Neither of the guys who've worked on me have been heavy-handed, but when the only thing between your liver and a needle is a few layers of skin and a bit of fat, it all feels rough.
Generally, though, tattoos aren't too bad, especially if you're getting simpler things. Tattoos don't start to bother me until I'm over two hours into it and everything's raw. The needle itself generally feels like a cat scratch and after a while it feels like a sunburn. Some areas do definitely hurt worse than others though.
Also, if you are planning to get any kanji-characters in your hand, better do your background check well, since quite a many have different meaning in japanese and chinese...
I would never get a kanji character. My roommate has some, but he's actually studying Japanese and has a familiarity with the language, so that's different. Generally, they're pretty tacky. (Besides cryo's. Obviously.)
I have been horribly off task like all afternoon. I got a new project and am totally stumped as to where to start it.... I am trying to fix a broken web page and I dont know the page's functionality like at all and its a very vague break which makes it even worse...
Tomorrow is going to be a very long day at this rate.

My entire right arm is one massive tattoo. Some parts did hurt, like the "ditch" area where your arm bends, and the elbow maybe a little. The sensitive part of the forearm hurt a bit too, but overall it wasn't too bad I guess. The part that I always dread is the next day or a few days after, when it feels like road rash or a bad sunburn.

And your skin is super taut and if it's at a joint, it's all swollen and doesn't want to bend... yeah, that's worse than the actual tattooing, but still not as bad as the itching for me. That's the worst part.
How many sessions did your sleeve take? After I get this piece finished up, I want to get my right arm fully sleeved up. I've already got about seven and a half hours worth of work on it, and I'm guessing it's going to be about twenty total by the time it's done, but I'm no expert.
My left arm has 10 hours on it and is 3/4 done. The inside of my bicep is the last part to get hit but I might just do it myself.
I do not get tattooed well though. I bleed like crazy and when it finally stops I lymph up really bad. The 4.5 hour session I had on my forearm was the worst - a week later I could shake my arm and it felt like I had a water balloon around the whole thing. Shoulders and back have been fine, but the forearm was like a body fluid sac for almost 2 weeks. The "ditch" has been avoided by the guy who does my stuff, but eventually I'll need to fill it in with something.
Lies. When I post it's like solid gold quotes spewing from my fingers.

Just out of curiosity, have you ever run into a situation someone talks about you (or refers to your MTGS-accounts) IRL? I've heard "Gaka" and "(Cryogen's) Random card of the day" being discussed about quite a few times IRL...

Also modgaming Bur setups is kind of treading down a dark path
There's a cute young thing at a shop I frequent that is flirts with me on a constant basis, but I get the idea that she is just that way with the regular guys. I don't think that it is genuinely directed at me, it is just her way. Other than that it happens almost never since I left the workforce.
I'm not a looker by any means, but I have some natural charisma that I inherited from my dad that makes engaging with people very easy for me. I also have a dark sense of humor and a tendency to make jokes and comments of a taboo nature, and for some reason it rarely bites me in the ass, so I tend to stick in people's heads. As a result I can come off as flirtatious in a friendly way, so it gets reciprocated. I don't think there is any genuine danger of anybody truly propositioning me.

People talk about my thread? Wow.
The couple of people at my LGS know that I mod and will occasionally joke that I'm going to infract them for a play they make, but that's about it.
Oddly enough, not many people at my LGS are members here, or if they are they don't post. Most people have heard of the site, of course, but yeah. I hear Gaka get mentioned sometimes, mostly in reference to Norin, though.
I remember going to the shop years ago when I first got back into Magic and they were doing a Vintage tournament. This one guy was playing manaless Ichorid, which I'd never seen or heard of, and I remember watching one game where he mulled to 1 card and won. It was one of the most amazing things I had ever seen.
I'm probably never going to get a tattoo, mainly since I'm afraid of needles and couldn't bear it.
It is nothing like any needle you have ever felt when getting an injection. It kinda feels like a whole bunch of constant bee stings without the allergic response (and a little pressure thrown in for good measure).

Uh, well you haven't seen Portland then because it is a very anglo town, with relatively few minorities.
Also, if you are planning to get any kanji-characters in your hand, better do your background check well, since quite a many have different meaning in japanese and chinese...
A) The hurt... a lot. But pain is weird because as soon as it's over the memory of pain doesn't really have and sting. There have been a few spots where I thought I was going to ***** myself (outside wrist bones, under my shoulder blades, and pretty much any shading after 4 hours of needling were the worst), but it doesn't really make the memory or impression of the experience bad.[/quote]Actually, your body is not capable of remembering pain. It is a defense mechanism that promotes high-risk high-reward behavior and is thought to also be tied to promoting multiple gestations. You can remember a cold objective idea of severity, and of course fear, but all of that wanes pretty quickly.
I never had as long a session as you describe that was just line work followed by shading, but I know after 3-4 hrs of shading and line total the deep ache in my arm started to cause uncontrolable muscle spasms for me at one point.

You, sir, know where it is at. There is nothing like wrestling that dong free of your banana hammock and letting it dangle in the cool night air, hands-free, as steam rises in the moonlight. When we lived on Mt. Hood I almost never used the bathroom for shaking hands with Nixon, and even in our last place where we had a 6' privacy fence with no neighbors windows peering in I would revel in urinating al fresco.
My entire right arm is one massive tattoo. Some parts did hurt, like the "ditch" area where your arm bends, and the elbow maybe a little.
The inner bend in your arm is called the antecubital space.
I've always wondered if I would have the willpower for a piece done using the traditional Irezumi method (with the bamboo stick and needles). I also kind of like the idea of putting my skin in the hands of an amazing artist and letting them do what they want
Peeing in the wild is great but when trying to travel across 4 Western states before the kids wake up.... **** that. You pee in bottles.
I've hosted weekly EDH games for 4 years now, but on Saturday I'm going to try a Pauper 60 card thing. Let's see if the nerds flee! I just can't handle super long and drawn out games right now in my life - I am like a kitten... I need things to start and stop in a matter of minutes while my attention span recharges.
