So if I read that thread right, they flat out nerfed the **** out of splice. Splice is a niche mechanic with the only thing cool about about it is now gone. Way to go Wizards.

I posted in the other thread as well, but according to Eli the "nerf" does not seem to be intentional. Eli's response is here:

As I said in the other thread, I am not convinced this was intentional if it does actually work this way where it is no longer copied.
Yeah, after looking it your link, plus this one here seems to indicate that, yes, storm + splice works and the copies will make golem tokens or draw cards, depending on the splice spell used.
I agree. Eli seems to be banking hard on the "choices are copied" part of copying it. It is still confusing since 706.2 says, in part:
Other effects (including type-changing and text-changing effects), status, and counters are not copied.
I believe that the intent is for it to be copied but I am not entirely sure the rules completely support it. Which, again, seems like an oversight based on responses rather than an intentional change.
Could you imagine if Golos' ability read: WUBRG: Exile the top three cards of your library. You may cast a nonland card with the lowest converted mana cost without paying its cost.
I think it would have been so easy to make Golos interesting.
Just so no one makes the same mistake I did tonight, Golos' five colored ability does not allow you to play the cards on your opponents turn, unless they are instants or have flash.

Base on some of the cards, such as Anje's Ravager and Ghired, Conclave Exile we can expect some combat involved, but how much? Will it be enough to make combat matter again in EDH, or at least heads towards that direction?
The colors also suggested that there might not be mono-color deck support this year, unless Anje's deck says otherwise.
I'm actually the most curious about Gerrard at this moment. Rosewater said he'd be Boros, but Boros has a history of boring design till F/S and Feather. I wouldn't mind seeing him as a Rebel/Soldier leader where he turns every creature in your library Rebels and can search for them. Given his history (and cards related to him), I won't oppose a Boros style Vindicate and Gerrard's Verdict.
The flashback one is pure value, and the BUG one is pure value, while the ones with trash mechanics and weaker colours are also weaker and trashier. Everything went pretty much as expected, nothing to see here people.

I love the hype of new cards and ideas, then after time to calm down, the disapointment sets in.
As Mimicvat above said, the trash mechanics have remain trash and the value mechanics got more value.
I was hoping there would be a thread or some talk here in the forums, but what more needs to be said? We do not need broken/breakable commanders to have fun, but everybody knew before today that Madness and Populate would need a lot of help to be remotely viable evenat the kitchen table.
Before today, the only one I was interested in was flashback, and now that we know it will have white instead of black, I have no interest in any of the decks for the second year in a row.
The only hope to hold out for now are solid reprints and nice staples.

"Whatever style you wish to play, be it fast and frenzied or slow and tactical, the surest way to defeat your opponent consistently is by dominating him or her in the war of card advantage." - Brian Wiseman, April 1996
I honestly think that Anje Falkenrath is really good. An hasty madness enabler that give you card advantage for 3 mana, seems fine. Kadena, Slinking Sorcerer is a little scary with manifest, if that works. Ghired, Conclave Exile is a strange one. He provides a big token and he is able to populate but the attack trigger is weird on a 2/5 body. I guess they have to keep him small because of the token. Sevinne, the Chronoclasm is powerful the small body isn't hat relevant because of the damage preventing effect.
I really like the new flashback card Sevinne's Reclamation.
I don't know which one I would buy. Non of the mechanics are interesting for me. I am waiting for the commander alternatives. Normally they have different themes.
I am still annoyed that madness is not Grixis and i might actually take a grixis commander and run anie as one of teh 99. Madness screamed looters to me and then we don;t get to use the blue looter.
So I will be dissecting Madness to make grixis i am just curious which commander I am going to use. (Any suggestions)

how is anje not value? She basically reads: you may cast any number of madness cards for their madness cost, and draw a card when you do it. Seeeeeems strong to me. How many good madness cards we’ll have remains to be seen, but there aren’t a ton of good morphs or flashback spells either. Also anje costs 3. If any commander breaks into cEDH, my money is probably on anje.
Ghired is combat focused, so ofc he’s not broken good. But with haste that’s still at least 10/13 of stats for 5, with more each turn...for low/mid power tables I’m sure he’ll be fine.

Because what good madness cards exist?
There are only 41 of them in Rakdos including the the ome spoiled, and all of them are subpar creatures, removal, and "raise dead" effects.
What are you going to do with that? Use Phyrxian Altar to sacrifice the creatures for mana to try and fuel casting more madness cards, return them to your hand with the raise dead effects and build up a storm count... maybe?

Well you can also build at instant speed, which I think is the bigger deal than the actual quality of madness cards. A “free” discard outlet that lets you cycle through your deck is pretty damn powerful.
While I don’t like the fact that it’s tied to tribal, getting Falkenrath Gorger out can lead to some really explosive turns.
If there's a cEDH deck around her, I would guess she doesn't cast them at all. If you have, say, alhammarret's archive you could probably draw through most of your deck that way. So it doesn't even really matter what they are, in that context.
Sure, most of them are pretty weak in the context of a normal deck, but Anje is a really good enabler for them. Take a total garbage trash ick gross bleh card, alms of the vein. Well, with Anje, you get to nearly guarantee that you pay the madness cost, AND you get a card back for doing it. So now it's basically B: drain 3, draw 1. Which is kind of great, tbh. Plus you get to cast everything as though it has flash, don't forget. So twins of maurer estate is 2B for a 3/5 flash draw a card. Is that hyper-competitive? Ok, no, probably not. But it's not BAD.
So yeah, Anje looks like the feather of madness to me: takes some real mediocre crap and makes it playable. I like that.
Anje is in my opinion more of a reanimate build. Unless we get some really good madness cards, there is going to be a very weak deck. Sure it is on theme but still...
but making her a reanimator deck, we can loot things away. i am actually going with Kess and gonna throw Anje into the 99 as a looter deck. (Plus kess works with things in grave)
I will keep some madness cards, but not all as most are garbage. (I will also have wheel effects in said deck. As Circular logic is nice with a big enough grave.
I agree with Drain Life. In a parallel universe where madness has 20+ really solid cards Anje would be amazing. In ours I find her underehelming. Id like to see a general that gives the next card you discard madness or a discard outlet that has more presence and not madness specific, maybe something like Pack Rat in the zone.

Sometimes a commander can be more fun because of its limitations. I'm personally liking the power level of this batch of commanders so far. They aren't all "must kill immediately or the game is over" power level.
Getting to play a bunch of innistrad jank, making it cheap and giving it flash and a cantrip...that just sounds like fun.

Yep, just like for Urza, Lord High Artificer and Temporal Aperture "This turn" is the important part, meaning you don't cast the card at the resolution of the ability but later during the turn. Otherwise, it would be worded like for Etali, Primal Storm or Djinn of Wishes
