I think solemnity will get banned. Already the card is broken and it is nt even availble yet.
Several damage immunity combos akin to Pariah + indestructible creature, a Dark Depths combo, and a lockdown combo involving an eight cmc enchantment don't seem banworthy. None of those are unbeatable (despite Decree being close to a hard lock) and the card isn't guaranteed to be impactful on its own. It's a good card with some powerful interactions and you can say that about a lot of cards in this format. Let's at least wait until we have a chance to play with the card before calling for bans?
its the amount of things Solemnity breaks that i feel it will get banned. The pariah combo, or the dark depths while viable are not as easy to break. We may see a week or two of it legal and ten when the RC sees how broken it can be, they will ban it. (Either that or it will be a T&N debate)
It has to be in W, though, and that severely neuters it.
This has next to no traction for a ban, if you think it does, what criteria does it hit?

The only even remotely ban worthy interaction it has is Decree of Silence and that's nowhere near enough. Phyrexian Unlife/Glacial Chasm/Delaying Shield are decent interactions but easily disrupted and nothing that we can't do with manyothercards. Dark Depths gives you a huge indestructible creature that takes 6 turns on its own to kill a 4 player table, typically won't start swinging before T4 (T3 with some fast mana starts, T2 with a god hand involving 2+ pieces of fast mana on top of Solemnity and Depths), and is answered by any exile or bounce spell. Decree is a lock and is difficult for some decks to answer but it involves an 8 CMC enchantment meaning it comes down much slower than similar locks, e.g. Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir/Knowledge Pool. Cumulative upkeep interactions or persist/undying combos are potentially powerful in a format full of powerful cards and interactions.
In addition, Solemnity is a decent hate card against some strategies and completely dead other times (the reason I'm unlikely to even play the card) so it's not like it would ever be a ban consideration on its own merits. You're talking about banning it only for its uses as a combo piece which is uncommon at best, especially when the common combos have to be built around. Finally, no one has even had a chance to play with the card yet outside of people proxying it up. I'm sticking with my earlier sentiment that we should wait until actually playing with the card before we call for bans. I don't think it's going to be problematic. If it is, I'll revisit my position in light of new information. Prerelease ban mania is never good and usually wrong.

[Pr]Jaya | Estrid | A rotating cast of decks built out of my box.
After a bit of thought, I am putting Solemnity in Zedruu for the Glacial Chasm/Mystic Remora/Delaying Shield, mostly as a secondary measure. Sure, it's powerful, but probably the more powerful side is the amount of opponents' counter-mayhems it severely hampers. (Hello, Atraxa.)
Also I will laugh my ass off if someone else wins riding their Glacial Chasm or Dark Depths and my Solemnity to victory.

I can imagine it now. Like you doing something like Lotus Petal + Sol Ring + Plains to hinder the Atraxa player and then the second player just casually drops a Dark Depths and now has their Marit Lage token out on their turn 1.
Personally it's just going to be a member of the 99 for Grimgrin. Yes, it does both the Zombie and the Cloning Theme so wonderfully it should be the Commander, but ironically its self-recursion made me prefer granting the walking sacrifice outlet (and potential 1-shot Commander Damage wincon) the general "invulnerability" the Command Zone provides instead. Plus I prefer the Commander to be a Zombie (which is why Gisa and Geralf are also only members of the 99), because of flavor (and also Rooftop Storm).
Holy crap the scarab god is good. Having instant-speed reanimation on tap for all graveyards is nuts, and the commander is nigh-invincible to boot. And he craps on all opposing HOD gods. He looks way better than havengul lich, his ability can be used as an instant and doesn't require paying full cost, plus he's a 5/5 with sick self-recursion. Sure, he can't infinitely recur the same creature, but that seems like a small price to pay.
Probably I'll build him first as straight control with lots of counters, removal, and boardwipes. Basically just a UB Geth.

Zombie build will probably be fine if boring.
What do you think of The Locust God? It has high combo potential mix with varies of ways to do damage, albeit at 6cc.
I am inclined to agree with you. Although it does contain a bunch of zombies, my Grimgrin list is not a tribal deck, so the The Scarab God's upkeep trigger isn't a deal breaker. What I really like is his activated ability.
Take a swing at my opponent, kill their threat with GG trigger, then exile it from the yard and get a copy for myself. Yes please. Also handy for reanimating my own stuff since I am playing with plenty of loot effects. This is a straight replacement for Havengul Lich.

Doesn't interest me as much, though it's also pretty cool. Combo potential is a total interest-killer for me. I imagine the way to build it is with all the tutors for coastal piracy and such, with extra combat steps and fast mana, but I doubt it'd be much fun that way.
Scarab God also has the potential to be a reanimator commander, old school with putrid imp and the like. Will Mindleech Mass finally see its day in the sun? I might try that build as well, seems like it could be fun.

So a U/B reanimator that emphasizes on the ability of the creature reanimated instead of size. I should test this one out with a Sedris deck and take out the red, and see how it goes. Zombies have some of the more resilient creatures in the game, the deck doesn't have to be a tribal to utilize them for God's sake.
Djeru the Purified... well, if anyone was looking for that monowhite superfriends general, they got it I guess.

No. Eight total. Bolas made eight gods on this plane.
Slight correction: Bolas corrupted 8 gods on this plane, they were already here when he first came to Amonkhet (though we may or may not ever find out what the three insect gods were originally).
No. Eight total. Bolas made eight gods on this plane.
No, there were 8 gods before Bolas arrived. Bolas took 3 of them out of the picture and remade them into monstrosities (Which we now know as the Scorpion, Locust and Scarab gods) while warping the other 5 to do his bidding. Hence, we got the original 5 gods in Amonkhet, and the 3 remade ones now.

My Commander decks:
Chandra, Torch of Defiance - Oops! All Chandras.
Prime Speaker Zegana - Draw for Power.
Pir & Toothy - Counterpalooza.
Arcades, the Strategist - Another Brick in the Wall.
Zacama, Primal Calamity - Calamity of Double Mana.
Edgar Markov - Vampires Don't Die.
Child of Alara - Dreamcrusher.
Indeed, it has a lot of potential in a format where paying 5 or 6 it's really a big deal. I mean the worst thing I can think of is X = 3 and getting Eternal Witness and a couple other good early plays so that Menagerie is ready again later on.
