Im okay with it, I'm not throwing it around and being silly with my cards and the lid seems to hold it fine. I use a rubber band just for piece of mind anyway if I have it in a bag.
I saw this style of box at my LGS the other night but it was Legion brand ("Elder Dragon Hoard"). It was advertised as being able to fit a doublesleeved Commander deck. I'm not familiar with their products and I use the clear plastic acrylic boxes for my deck so I wasn't interested, but thought I'd mention it here.
I double sleeve all my decks and typically use the Ultra-Pro 150 acrylic boxes. They hold the decks perfect, but as I foiled out my Sliver deck, I ran into a problem. As I kept adding new foils, the fit kept getting tighter and tighter until I had to be really careful not to bend cards returning it to the box. It got to the point where I got the deck in and had to break the case to get it back out, lol. This was with about 7 or 8 cards non-foil. I was using KMC Perfect Size and KMC Hyper Mat sleeves. I replaced that box with a new one that turned up recently in my LGS called Elder Dragon Hoard deck box. It's about $15.00 and will hold a double sleeved fully foiled deck snugly. They come in different colors, seem to be very well made, and have a textured dragon scale pattern on the outside. Not sure how to post pictures here, but a quick Google Image Search will show them to you.
Not sure if this belongs in this thread, but well...
I started using gold bordered cards, since they are better than other proxies (which my playgroup would be fine with anyways) and cheaper than normal cards. However, in some sleeves the back of the cards shines through and you can tell if it's one of the gold cards.
Anybody else have these issues?
Should I use proxies of the cards back side, too?
Dragonshield yellow and ultrapro matte any color tend to have thinner plastic that shows the backs of cards.
KMC sleeves don't have that problem, nor do other colors of dragonshield (i haven't tried orange though...)
[EDH] It's built to be a casual format and to a specific vision, and if you don't like the vision, there's nothing wrong with that, but it's not going to change to accommodate everyone. Big tent is not a goal.
Hey! I have a Jarad deck that I really feel is my baby. I've collected lots of Golgari merch (sticker, GB Ravnica die and a set of GB dice, etc) and am thinking of getting Golgari sleeves. Are there any good-quality sleeves with the Golgari logo on them?
I used to own the legion one so I can vouch for it. Holds a single sleeved edh deck in each compartment. The token slot can hold several sleeved tokens. The others are pretty much the same thing. Although the ultimate guard one holds double sleeved decks, so that might be a bit too bulky for your needs. If you were interested in any of these, I'd scour the web to find them cheaper.
Comprehensive dump of my experience with sleeves/boxes to date. Most of this is probably widely known, but bits and pieces about interactions of sleeves/boxes may be of use.
Sleeves:
KMC Hyper Mats are perfection for double sleeved decks. Very durable, shuffle well, don't gunk up easily. No experience single sleeving. Have had decks in Hyper Mats for over a year with no creased corners, pretty much unnoticeable wear, shuffle great. I've only used the KMC Perfect Fits for double sleeving, and the pair works like a charm.
Dragon Shield Mattes have become my go-to sleeve for single sleeved decks. They feel too tight for comfortable double sleeving. The shuffle feel is incredibly clunky at first, making you question why you picked them up for the first two or three games or so, but then they "wear in" and everything is fine. Very solid, seem like they'll hold up well with time and not gunk up easily. Relatively limited experience, but bodes well.
Original Dragon Shields are probably the most indestructible sleeve on the market, but they gunk up super easily, making shuffling feel like slamming two bricks together. From my point of view, obsoleted by the mattes, as the successor is sufficiently resilient. Double sleeved with them once, was godawful, never again.
Legion Double Mattes are sleeves I've heard good things about, so I tried them out on a deck. The corners got dog-eared very quickly and shuffling became a massive pain. The sleeves didn't gunk up or split, for what it's worth. I tried them single sleeved, maybe the performance is better when double sleeving.
Ultra Pros are funny, but everybody knows that. Dog-eared corners in moments, splits, how is this company still a thing and why is my LGS brimming with their produce while stocking nothing from more reputable sources?
Deck Boxes:
Ultra-Pro Pro-100+ is a good, reliable box. Fits a double sleeved commander deck with a little leeway for a few tokens/extra cards. Too big for a single sleeved deck without a massive card buffer, which is annoying. Nice, soft plastic, makes loading and unloading easy and minimises the odds of something bad happening to the sleeves.
Ultimate Guard Deck Case 100+ is a functional replica of the above.
Ultimate Guard Deck Case 80+ is a product that does something that few other boxes do, for reasons I don't understand - offers just enough storage capacity to hold a single sleeved commander deck. Tiny amount of leeway (got away with cramming in three extra sleeved tokens with a deck with no damage to the cards or sleeves), but it does what it says on the tin and does it well. The box, however, is incompatible with Dragon Shields, at least of the matte variety. Well, I did manage to wedge in a whole deck, but the box felt like it was about to burst at the seams and it then took me 5+ minutes to pry the deck out. This is greatly disappointing, as a lot of my deck base was single sleeved and in these boxes, which will pose logistical problems when I transfer them to Dragon Shield Mattes for improved sleeve quality (instead of dog-eared Legions or Ultra Pros), especially since the next biggest box is too big to hold them in a reasonable manner.
Ultimate Guard Monolith seems like a design home run with its slight improvement over the Ultra Pro tower, but it seems the overall style of deck box may just not get along with me. The plastic is very rigid, and the only damage I've ever done to KMC Hyper Mats was with the aid of trying to put a deck into the box. Also, the box feels too large for a double sleeved commander deck, leading to some drastic card buffering measures to keep things contained. The dice tray is quite nice though, and if you choose to write off me dog-earing KMCs on the edge as a personal mishap then you may get good mileage out of this.
I have an option for those who want portable, protected decks in large quantity. After spending more than six years gradually filling up fatpacks with 3 decks in each, my backpack couldn't handle more than 12 boxes and I needed more space.
I've adapted a Nanuk 935 carrying case to comfortably fit 24 sleeved decks (dragon shields, 50% each matte and smooth) in six rows of four. The case is waterproof and can be treated as a suitcase or rolled around like airplane carry-on. It came foam lined with precut foam in 3 layers that can be pulled apart and rearranged to fit various objects. The manufacturers examples include small drones and large cameras. In my modifications, I left a 0.5 inch foam strip between each row, which didn't quite work out perfectly and left some extra space on one end. If I removed all foam from between the decks and replaced it with thin plastic, I could go up to seven rows, but it would be an extremely tight fit. In each row, I use a divider to keep deck separated and have space on the end for tokens.
The foam was catching on sleeves and lead to some less than idea situations (nearly bent a card), so I slipped thin (0.010 inch thick) plastic strips on either side of each row, keeping the decks padded on all sides but making access to each deck significantly easier. I found a 10 inch x 20 inch sheet and cut it into 12 strips about 1.5 inches wide.
The best picture I could get is attached, but my phone is rather ancient. I may ask someone in my group to take better photos and get them to me if someone wants them.
Can anyone suggest an option for a box that can fit 3+ sleeved decks, is more durable than cardboard, and has a surface that is suitable for decoration?
I'm using an Ultra-Pro Satin Tower and was wondering if theirs any good card protectors that would fit inside like a top loader (which don't fit)?
Use KMC Character Guards or the Ultra Pro Sleeve Covers. They fit over your sleeve, fit inside most deck boxes, and make your Commander stick out. It'll be slightly larger than your other sleeves so you can't lose it if you accidentally shuffle it in. I use them for all of my commanders.
I've attached what my commander looks like in one.
I use a similar method as to not lose my commander when I reshuffle plus it gives them extra protection and presence on and off the battlefield. They are mini snap card holders. They are obviously thicker than normal, but almost the same dimensions height and width as sleeves. The only issue that these present is they don't really allow your commander to be tucked in any fashion due to the unshuffleability of the case and the obvious indicator of where it is in your library if that is even a thing in your games.
This is what I'm looking for. MY roommate got one from a trade on pucatrade and it has no marking so I couldn't even begin to look for it and it could go by so many names. Thank you.
No problem. It took a while to find them myself. I happened to be going through some old basketball cards had from 15-20 years ago and a few of these were holding cards. I thought they'd be perfect for my commanders. Now everyone in my group uses them.

Those are neat, I've never seen those before. Those would be nice for expensively altered commanders.
Has anyone else ever had difficuly double-sleeving their cards before? I recently picked up a few packs of KMC Perfect Fits because I had heard that they were the creme de la creme of inner sleeves. When I went to place my sleeved cards inside my Matte Dragon Shields, I found that the Dragon Shields would push the Perfect Fit off of the card as I attempted to press the card into the second sleeve. This was a source of great frustration for me as I was only ever able to double-sleeve a single card correctly. Is this normal or are KMC Perfect Fits less compatible with Dragon Shields than they are with other sleeves?

Take an unsleeved card you don't care about, like a basic land. Sleeve it and the sleeved card at the same time as far as you can, and you can almost always prevent what you describe.

I use KMC perfect fits and KMC hyper mattes and have no issues for the most part, but that situation did occur with one batch of unusually tight hyper mattes. I insert the perfect fitted card very carefully with an index finger on each top corner to prevent the perfect fit from sliding off.

No longer an issue with the new rules
I know, but your group might still play that way. To be fair, it was never an issue for my group since we always played without tuck. It just made sense to us that your commander was always accessible and that the owner of said commander has the option of where he goes when he changes zones.
So, I'm having a bit of problem lately and this seems like the best place to put it. I've recently been working toward double sleeving my decks and I know that my current storage for them isn't going to work. Right now, I've got the Ultra Pro "Pro-Deck" boxes that hold EDH decks pretty well with a bit of extra space for tokens. I have the Return to Ravnica Holiday gift box that I've been using since then and it can hold 9 EDh decks in those "Pro-Deck" boxes, but I've got 6 and some 60 card decks. So once I double sleeve my decks, I'm not going to be able to use those "Pro-Deck" boxes for my EDH decks. What I need is some cheap deck boxes that can hold double sleeved EDH decks and a cheap container to hold them.
I do have some 150+ Ultra Pro acrylic boxes, but I'm not sure if they can hold double sleeved edh decks. I'm on a very tight budget, so I currently only have the KMC Perfect Fits. I want to Order the Hyper Mat sleeves and some deck boxes at the same time, so I can't test to see if the boxes I have can hold double sleeved decks.
Does anyone have any suggestions or experiences that can give me a hand?
