Personally, I use Ultra-Pros. They do split every now and again, but they're also widely available and shuffle easily. I use Deckbuilder Toolkits with toploaded Commanders as dividers to keep my decks in.
This is a bit off-topic, but would anyone like to see a thread like this but for life counters? There's some really neat ones I think would be worth sharing with the community.
KMC Hyper Mattes may not be widely available at your local shops, but they're worth waiting a few days for them to ship from whichever online store you order from that carries them.
As for the bit about life-counters, I've been debating if I should expand this thread to other Magic accessories. The next accessory that I was thinking of adding was playmats since I have tried several, but I'm not sure there is much to say about them other than the quality difference between a few brands and then all of the anime playmats that come from Asia. Life counters would probably be a better topic to add, but I do not wish to steal your idea.
Also I'll admit I haven't been very diligent in updating the first post of this thread since I got my first salary job :). I would probably be more inclined to modify and update it if I could simply code the post in HTML/CSS of my own. Being limited to short-code with predefined settings feels limiting, but I try to make the best of it. I'm still not satisfied with the overall feel of the layout for the two sections. I hope to spend some time modifying the deck box listing to a much easier to read format that is more visually appealing.
I'll be frank, with the nice formatting of your intro post, I'd much rather have you do it. I don't have any fancy coding skills, so I think you're probably the better man for the job. I also concur about the playmat thing, I don't think there's more than one kind of playmat, just what designs are available on it. Life counters, meanwhile, can run the gamut, from Spindowns and pen and paper, to the wonky stuff like DokuDoku's Life Counter Ring, and my Flying Tricycle Counter:
I wanted to come back to this thread, because DokuDoku's post introduced me to the Life Counter Rings, and now that they're (Goddamn finally) back in stock, I thought I'd chime in. First of all, the ring I got was a touch too big (my fault for overcompensating on their ring sizing chart) but it still has a nice feel on the inside without being chunky or protrusive on the outside. They do require some initial setup (aka wash the thing in a bowl of soapy water and set the dials halfway to reduce spring resistance) but the payoff and presentation is nice. I've ordered another ring, hopefully in the correct size this time.

Nice Cryogen! I was wondering how well the holiday boxes would work for cube, thanks for the pic!
Anyways, for sleeves, I only trust Dragon Shields & KMC Hyper Mats. I like the look, feel and durability of both, but hate that Hyper Mats only come in 80ct. I usually use a Dragon Shield plastic deckbox to store full decks, as they hold 100 double sleeved cards.
Has anyone here tried the Ultimate Guard stuff? Saw some great buzz about the brand but their stuff isn't available where I live. :/
I bought one twin flip'n'tray box, the box is cool but there's no way it can hold 200+ single sleeved cards. My Maelstrom Wanderer deck with only 1 double-sleeved card barely fits in one of the deck space and does not fit in the other one so it's useless for EDH players.
That's a shame.
I'm also curious how their sleeves stack up to Ultra Pro, KMC, and Dragon.
For over a year, I used the tried and true Stanley (Home Depot) box to lug around 10+ decks. I had said that if I could find a bigger, better and sturdier option to carry around decks, dice mat and other stuff I'd look into getting it - and I had seen someone recommend a pelican laptop case for that very purpose. I tracked down the model online - 1495cc1 and found a good deal on a new one on Amazon. I was a little hesitant that it wouldn't fit my decks in the boxes they had been in - but I could return it if I needed to.
I received it - and love it so far. It's a good deal bigger than the stanley case - and heavier too. It weighs about 10 lbs when empty, so you can be glad it's got a shoulder strap when you've got it loaded with decks. It comes with (what seems like) a bulletproof laptop sleeve and a narrow zippered case for your peripherals. I was able to simply take those out and expose the nicely-cushioned interior. I organized my 12 decks, my full set of Planechase and 4-pocket binder into the box. I used the narrow cable case for dice and it fits in - albeit tightly. The organizer up top hold pencils, notepads, a few proxies and tokens and two playmats - despite it's otherwise less than optimal design. The phone holster is mostly useless.
It does have a 3-digit lock that comes standard with it - but there's a small metal latch inside the top that you can unscrew with a normal phillips head in about 2 minutes to prevent the mechanism from locking - and that was my only gripe: that I'd have to unlock the thing every time I opened it. It's fitted with two external lock eyelets, so I can add a good security external lock (or two) if I anticipate needing it.
I got it because I wanted to take deck storage a little more seriously - and I definitely like everything about it so far.
I've been using a Pelican case for some time now. It offers the best possible protection when transporting your cards (imo). The case I have can comfortably hold 6 EDH decks (but I have it configured slightly different). I'll post some pictures when I get a chance.
Im using 2 of these, but i would like to get more of them. I think they costed about 3 dollars when i bought them here in sweden, or even less. They hold 100 doublesleeved cards, im using draognshield sleeves.
The Professor at Tolarian Community College on youtube does full in-depth series on all MTG accessories. Deck Boxes for both Standard and EDH. Best Sleeves. Bags. Storage. Custom Boxes. The guy produces some great content.
Personally, the I bought a Ultra-Pro Pro-Tower Black for my 2 EDH decks based off this. I simply removed the bottom drawer and just slide in my 2nd deck easily. Lots of extra room for tokens + EDH deck on top. Use the front compartment for a pencil and notepad. Works great!
hey guys, im back for a minute. Glad to see that someone checked out life counter rings.
SO - I need an upgrade. I currently carry around my decks in a large briefcase, with each deck in its own ultrapro deck box (standard deck boxes for 60card, proo100's for EDH). Now, I need more room. I need something that carries:
2x 1-inch or 1.5-inch binders
20x EDH decks
18x 60 card decks
2x 60card boxes for tokens and dice
playmat and spare sleeves (mat can be folded)

But I don't know if itll be good enough and the site's support staff are freaking AWFUL.
Any ideas? Condensing the number of decks is a no-go. I play literally all of them very regularly, so I cant leave some behind.
Maybe two cases??
You're going to have to lay all of that stuff out in the most compact layout you can imagine to give yourself an idea of the volume that you'll need.
I know that my pelican case holds 11 EDH decks, a deck of 100 planechase cards, 2 (out of print) ultrapro 4 pocket zip binders, dice, mats, sleeves and accessories like pencil & paper.
With all of that in my case, we're talking around 30 - 40 lbs.
What you're proposing lugging around will be significantly heavier - so you'll need to consider the structure of the container and how to move all that junk around.
It sounds like with all of that, you'll likely need something around the same form factor as a wheeled beach cooler - they make gaming cases like that out there - but you may also want to make sure that having that much stuff won't aggravate the staff at your local game shop by monopolizing too much space. As a matter of fact, see if you can find a dry cooler (preferably with wheels) and pack it up with your stuff to see how much room you're talking about taking up.
I currently lug around 12 EDH decks and 12 60-card decks, plus a full binder, spare sleeves, dice, and two folded playmats. (see here) I DID a full layout of the space I need - EDH decks are 3x3 inches, regular decks are 2x3 inches in boxes (LxW).
The 22x16 briefcase is the right size, but I DO have concerns about the strength with the added weight - while lifting a heavy briefcase wont be an issue for me, I DO worry that the case itself may not be strong enough to hold it all up. The one I use now has two small hinges, but the one im looking at has a whole-edge hinge. As for the card shop/space issue: My brifecase, standing up, takes less space than anyone else's backpack, and a new briefcase would do the same. I've never encountered an issue with any shop telling me Im taking too much space. I also want to keep the same style of layout (Where everything is accessible on opening) with the new case. The only issue I have right now is determining if the case I get can physically stand up to the rigor of carrying all those decks without falling apart - annd I have no idea how to figure that out.
This shop has some seriously good-looking boxes at reasonable prices, and the reviews are good too. Unfortunately, it doesn't deliver to my country. Does anyone tried these? Would appreciate some feedback.
Found a cheap plastic container to use as an EDH deck box at a local discount store (Daiso) in my country. Cost $2 SGD ($1.50 USD)
Can hold a full double sleeved EDH, or a triple sleeved EDH + A small accessories box. The only problem is it has some leeway (1 cm) allowing the cards to shift left and right, probably need to get some soft stryoform to pad it.
Do you guys remember the Stanley Fat Max storage boxes that we found here a while back? Well I found something that looks pretty much identical yesterday at Harbor Freight Tools:
It's hard to see in the picture, but each compartment looks large enough to hold one double-sleeved deck at a minimum.
I've tried out many cases and carrying solutions for my EDH decks. The Pelican case I picked up has definitely been the best. It cost $60, but offers an extreme level of protection (air tight, waterproof, fire resistant). It's an excellent way to store foils. The upside is that it can also be repurposed for later use. The case can comfortably fit 6 decks with some space for dice, tokens, etc. There are many sizes available, several of which are easily carried like mine.

Did the foam inserts come like that, or did you get them custom molded?

The foam does not come custom molded. Though you could order something custom from certain vendors. The foam these cases come with are a called pick'n'pluck foam. Simply put you can configure the foam insert to your liking (the foam is perforated in roughly half inch cubes). I've had no issues with the foams durability due to this. I'm sure there are videos on YouTube demonstrating the product. The nice thing is you can purchase brand new foam inserts and repurpose the case later in life... or not use the foam at all (but it definitely comes in handy).
I'm currently storing my double sleeved EDH decks in Dragonshield Gaming Boxes, but have found them to come apart easily at times. Looking for a replacement storage option that is cheap, simple and reliable (aside from the Ultra Pro Pro-deck box). I was very interested in the Legion Icon Deck boxes but was very disappointed when I found they didn't store 100 double sleeved cards

I've been using those clear hard plastic 150 (or maybe 200?) count boxes for my double sleeved deck. The deck fits comfortably and has extra room for any applicable tokens. It is durable, and if you have multiple decks you can easily see which deck is which since you can see the front card and sleeves.
An old trick I use for the Dragonshield boxes is to store them upside down so that when you pick them up they can't fall open. When I store double sleeved decks in them I actually load them sideways with the commander the only card facing up. They seem to fit the best this way.

I just picked up the Artist Case with insert from the Broken Token. Fits 20 Sleeved EDH decks perfectly and super easy to get 'em in and out while locking tight.
Dropped one of my decks down the stairs and onto my garage floor today - it was in a BCW clear acrylic case. The case shattered into about 5 pieces but there was zero damage to the deck, not even a scuffed sleeve (I use KMC hyper matte). Pretty happy with that considering the deck box was maybe $3.
