I'd be willing to bet the barn you haven't played much mono red.
Maybe he hasn't, but I certainly have. What's so bad about Into the Core? Red has serious problems getting rid of anything indestructible. It's no Vandalblast, but still a damn good card.
It's almost like two decks being mono:symr: doesn't say much about what cards they both need...

Oh, you think the losers' bracket is your ally, but you merely adopted the scrub tier. I was born in it, molded by it. I didn’t 4-0 an FNM until I was already a man; by then, it was nothing to me but an extra pack to sell for store credit!

Um, I primarily play mono red. Ashling the Pilgrim is one of my best decks and has a very strong reputation in my playgroup. Cinder Cloud and Fissure have both prevented me from eating a hasty lethal general to the face enough times that neither will ever leave any of my mono red decks again. I will never talk bad on Aftershock because it's great in mono red, but it won't save you from combos. Killing Mikaeus/Palinchron/Kiki-Jiki/DeN/ect with triggers on stack is something that needs to be done sometimes, and Fissure/Cinder Cloud are some of the few answers mono red has.
Mark of Fury can be good for Voltron generals. Also, it lets you get extra use out of your Inferno Titan/Molten Primordial/what have you. At least one attack is practically guaranteed.
Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!

That said, I agree with Mark of Fury and I'd like to add Not of this World. Yes, 7 mana for a counterspell is expensive, but it's still a counterspell in mono-red. Also, it's pretty likely you'd be hoping to counter their removal (targeting your permanent) unless you're playing U/x anyway.

This guy right here! I have been using that card for ages and for the exact same reason. It was especially hilarious when Akroma, Angel of Fury was at the helm because you could pay R to counter the few kill spells that could hit her.
Having played Ashling at the helm for a long time, I stopped including things that kept her alive after she asploded because she got tucked one to many times. So be careful because anyone would love to Spin into Myth your general that can't kill itself
While I am once again here, I want to say how impressed I've been with Skyship Weatherlight recently. At it's worst, it's an 8 mana Creature/Artifact tutor that mono red can use. You only have to search for one card and then you get the card right away because you have priority after it resolves. If you have a Rings of Brightheart and two extra mana, you can get two things, which is really good and cheaper than straight dropping Planar Portal, though I use both.

People in my meta would Spin away my Jaya given the chance regardless of whether she could kill herself or not (unless there was something even worse at the table). She's a planeswalker onna stick, and my deck is built to leverage both her abilities and her costs. (Although they'd probably use Chaos Warp or Oblation over Spin... Spin costs too much.)

Jaya Ballard, Task Mage and Basilisk Collar is hilarious: I'm a Day of Judgment and three Congregates stacked together (and two Lightning Helixes to each opponent)! You can help put yourself in a good position with Cauldron of Souls.
On phasing:
Agreed. I play against more than one deck that runs 1 or more of the following: Darksteel Plate, Blightsteel Colossus, Darksteel Sentinel. Even my beloved Vandalblast won't crack these nuts.
Molten Primordial has haste...

Why Inferno once when you can Inferno over and over again?
Also, Jaya with Distorting Lens. Mono-red Vindicate FTW.
