One of my buddies actually mentioned this idea to me a couple days ago. I immediatly jumped into my box of random uncommons and came up with Kabira Vindicator as my general. Looked pretty solid to me, Half an Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite
with almost three times the cost but an uncommon and scaleable over multiple turns.
I included all the reasonable flyers and tap down affects on bodies I could find as well as a good amount of pacifism affects. I havnt tried it out yet in a match but I imagine dealing only with commons board sweeps of any sort will be fairly rare and he is out of easy burn range the instant I cast him.
That is super strong, a lack of good draw in mono-green is the only potential problem I see. We should start posting deck lists to get a better idea of what a format of this might look like.

It does run out of gas pretty easily. You've usually just vomited your whole hand by turn 4 or 5, haha. If your opponent doesn't have enough removal, they usually just lose. Here's my decklist right now:
Here is a goblin crapshoot deck I threw together. Traditional Sligh I will make later, as it seems like it would be a lot better than this, but c'mon! Who doesn't like throwing around terrible goblins?
Once it gets out the Warchief your opponent's life starts to drop like crazy.
Two years ago I had one of these. No idea what happened to the deck, probably shuffled back into a commons box, but I remember doing pretty well with it. I ran RB switching between Shambling Remains and Murderous Redcap as my general.

@purple_pixie - Would you mind posting your Viral Drake deck? I have a rough version of it written up, but I'd like to compare it to yours. Also, Stonehorn Dignitary seems really good in the Witch deck.
I might try building a hyper aggressive Jagged Poppet deck with tons of burn, discard, LD, and fast creatures. Go Hellbent and force the game into topdeck mode.

Keep the conversation on topic guys and do not discuss decklists here. Go create a thread if you would like to talk about a particular list. If the topic spirals off of the original discussion I will be forced to close this thread.
You have been warned now, the next list in here gets an infraction! Posts your lists in the appropriate areas and use links to them if you would like to reference them. This is basic stuff guys. -ISB

I understand that the decklists don't fit in this thread but could there be a different new Pauper thread that could contain decklists? I know that decklists are supposed to go in the other forum but the Pauper format is so small that I don't think each deck could support its own thread and a general thread for it would apparently have an audience.
It could be discussed. If anything someone could try to make a master list for pauper decks (BUT) I would like that to be in one of the deckbuilding areas. If you look at the Horde mode stuff they tend to chain decklists together and discuss different ones. I could see something similar working for pauper if you guys like the format but I don't want it in here. Keep this thread to just discussing the commander options and perhaps some of the playstyles of that commander. When you get to the point of building an actual list it needs to be in a deckbuilding area.
I personally have a thread of my own for each of my own pauper decks. I like keeping track of my own list and its progression. I am not saying that my way is the only way to do it but regardless I would like the actual decklists to not be in here.
If we can pick up more people who play pauper we might sometime add a seperate area for posting them but that is something I would need to talk more in depth with Viper about. We also need a larger quantity of lists / posters interested in such an area.

ISB, do you play more multiplayer or 1v1 pauper? Someone mentioned earlier that they don't play multi because the games take too long/become stalemates. I could see this because there aren't many swingy spells at common. Is your experience contrary to this? You seem to have quite a few pauper decks - do you have any insight into the variant that hasn't been mentioned yet?
Also, a few people have said that control dominates and at least one other person has said aggro dominates. I'm curious as to why this is, but it probably just boils down to playgroup dynamics.

A tier 3 Legacy deck was named after me. What have you done with your life?
As for how my games go, I think a 4 player match takes about as long perhaps just a little longer than a normal EDH game. I have noticed I tend to have more lands in play by the end of a game of pauper than of normal EDH but you see a lot of less complicated turns as I dont activate my top, crack a fetchland, then tutor for something, attack, then pass turn packing counterspells in pauper. So less complicated turns but probably a few more of them.
As for control vs agro, control does not have as many big CA removal spells so they have a hard time in multiplayer as 1 for 1s dont work in pauper or you will be working all day to keep them off your back. I think you have to be sort of a hybrid. If you go all out agro then you fold to a single threat. If you go all out control and have no blockers then you usually get everything stung at you just to use up your resources as you have to use good answers to stop a 2/2 or loose the life. It is a hard conclusion but I would say a hybrid is the best way to go with it. One of the very few true control decks I have is my Izzet deck and that is because my commander allows me to take a single spell and split it across the board picking up the CA that normally isn't available.
EDIT: also I play primarily multiplayer. So far my Izzet and Rhox decks have been my most successful. I have yet to test my Cloudgoat and Rapacious one lists as they are still sort of just electronic lists that I came up with. However I am working on getting everything ordered and set up.
I actually have a quick question about how everyone is playing Pauper EDH in their groups. Most people seem to agree any uncommon creature, legendary or not, as the Commander, and then 99 commons to make up the rest of the deck. My question is, does the Commander have to uncommon? For example, if I found a creature at common that I wanted to play under, would you guys allow that? It seems a rather reasonable request; I basically just want to judge some opinions online before I bring up the whole concept to my playgroup next week.
Generally speaking most groups are fine with it. You can always ask your playgroup first but I dont forsee anyone being overly offended if you had a common commander instead of an uncommon.

I posted my take on Joraga Treespeaker stompy here. Like I say in the thread, it runs out of gas rather quickly. For that reason, I'm considering both Drumhunter and Garruk's Packleader as potential generals. Both eschew the powerful and consistent start that Treespeaker provides but are able to general card advantage by themselves. All three of these will probably end up being very different flavors of mono G beats. I'm excited to try them out!

A friend of mine the other day threw out an idea to make a puaper deck based on Reassembling Skeleton. I was thinking about how the decklist would go as I guess you would utilize him as your primary sac fodder and make the list primarily a bunch of sac outlets to run him though. I think I should try to come up with a list for it to see how interesting of a deck it really could be...
Perhaps I will look into a list for it more tomorrow and see if I cant swing some sort of a first draft for it to see how playable it would be. I really liked the idea though as it feels a little like a pauper version of Squee, Goblin Nabob as a black pauper version.
