Hunter's Insight, what do you guys n' gals think about this one? I've seen it posted in several decks now and am wondering if it's worth the inclusion. Seems risky, how often do ppl drop removal on a guy with this cast on him? Obviously it's a card that could get quite crazy if you cast it on the right target (seems decent with doublestrike).
The fact that the creature needs to deal damage to a player or planeswalker definitely makes it risky, and I'd say generally not worth running. If my opponent used Hunter's Insight on any creature with power 3 or greater, it's really likely that removal is getting used on it, since it results in a 2-for-1 on the opponent (my removal spell, for their creature + Insight).
Green has more reliable (albeit less explosive) draw spells -- Harmonize and Regal Force, for example. Actually, I've even seen Garruk, Primal Hunter used essentially as a draw spell, to good effect. Though, I will concede that Hunter's Insight is fairly cost-effective, and can be used without risk in the right situations (when your opponent is tapped out, etc.).
You will usually cast this on your second biggest threat, just to ensure you don't lose too much value from a spot removal spell. It will still draw 3-5, which is powerful enough without getting greedy.
I love it... But then again I like risky cards to begin with. I've won many games off the back of this card. 2-for-1'd? A few times. It's pretty easy to avoid. Sometimes I'll play it on a creature I don't mind losing just to ensure the real money gets through. I actually find it versatile in that sense.
It's pretty good in Aggro decks without access to either blue or black.
Note that aggressive decks without access to those two colors tend to be weak in this format.
By playing intelligently, you can often play around removal while using this card. People already mentioned Hexproof guys (either naturally or with the highly popular Swiftfoot Boots), but also waiting till your opponents play a removal spell on the biggest attacker and casting this on the second biggest one often works.
Overall, this card seems best in something like Stonebrow, Krosan Hero where you are likely to have large, guys with haste and trample coming out of nowhere.
i use it. It's good. in most decks you should get at least 3 cards at instant speed, seems pretty good to me. In my experience people usually either won't have removal in their hands to 2-1 you, or they want to save their removal on something more threatening on the board. I don't think I've ever gotten 2-1'd with this. The only problem this card has sometimes is not having a creature to play it on or having a creature that can't hit players. In my deck it's worth it.
If you don't have many creatures or your deck doesn't do much attacking then I would leave it out, otherwise try it out.
I use it in mono green. I agree with the not putting it on your best creature just in case somebody shoots removal at it, then at least you've essentially deflected their removal to your second best creature if they do kill it in response.
I run it in my Adun Oakenshield and his Beasts deck since it feels kind of thematic. Agree with the strategy of 'play on 2nd best threat,' but I'll usually use it for value on a creature that's attacking the guy that's tapped and doesn't have blockers.

My Saffi deck
Yeah, I'd run it in Thrun, easily. It's pretty good in any Voltron strategy that can reliably defend the Commander (all the good ones).
