Hello all. I've been reading up on EDH rules, deck lists, etc. and I am highly interested in playing in this format but I have 2 problems:
a) Like some people, I work and MtG is a side-hobby. As such, I don't have time to play it much.
b) I'm handicapped (on a wheelchair). My local shop has no ramp, so most of my play time is spent with friends/family (I tend to get supplies, trades, etc. by proxy with them OR online), who aren't interested in building EDH decks themselves.
So despite my interest, I can't make a deck since who will play EDH with me?
I ask, is it fair/viable for a EDH deck to fight a regular deck (maybe alter some rules to level the playing field)?

While it is certainly possible to build an EDH deck that can be played against decks from other constructed formats, it would greatly depend on the strength and strategy of each deck, and the format that the other deck was designed for. For example, no EDH deck would really stand a chance against a well constructed vintage deck (assuming both players were playing at 20 life), while it seems entirely possible that an EDH deck could beat a standard deck or even be too powerful for the standard deck to handle.
I think your best option would be to play online using magic workstation. There are often many players looking to play EDH there, and neither player is limited by card restrictions. This was how I got into the format, and it has quickly become my favorite by far. I was even able to convince a few friends to play the format after they tried it online as well. If you ever want to play a few games just shoot me a pm and I'll be happy to play or answer any questions you may have. Welcome to the EDH community, and good luck.

Like Evergreen said, a competitive EDH deck can put up pretty good numbers against "regular" decks. Heck, just the fact that you essentially start with 8 cards in hand (counting your general) and you almost always have access to a powerful creature is a significant advantage. Plenty of decks (even Standard-legal decks) can lay the smackdown on you, though. It really just depends on the individual matchup.
That being said, I too would be willing to play some EDH on MWS! Just send me a PM, and we'll get the crazy shenanigans started!
Most EDH decks spend the first few turns building a mana base, which is where "normal" decks have an advantage. But if you run a 1-2 color deck with little issues for mana fixing, then you should do fairly well. Just don't expect to win against a Standard deck made to win on turn 3.
Evergreen probably gave you the best solution for sure. I haven't taken the opportunity to play online for EDH, mainly because i don't have the time. Not only will playing online allow you to begin playing on a time basis convenient for you but its a great way to introduce friends into the format as well for those that weren't as interested in playing to begin with. Maybe your playgroup will catch on and you guys can play outside of MWS eventually. Best of luck! and welcome to the EDH community.
