I have been saying for a while that I wish they would come out with another format that is something between Ext and Legacy. There are so many cards that are awsome that just are not playable in Legacy.
I recently just got into EDH and I am loving it. There is so many things you can play and I cant really see the format ever getting old and stale. Do anyone think that Wizards would ever make this a Tourni format?
Given that the format is a tournament format that is supported on MTGO, I could definitely see them WANTING to support the format. However I am personally hoping that at the most they only make it part of their "Casual Play Network." I personally would not mind being able to get Magic Player Rewards for participating in Elder Dragon Highlander events. However I do not want to be able to lose or gain DCI rating points because of Elder Dragon Highlander events. That would simply make the format too competitive.

The control of the banned list would also change hands and I am not sure if that is a good thing.
There in lies part of the problems with Wizards picking up a format created by someone else... plus, how would the creators feel if Wizards just picked it up and took control?
What could the creators really say?Not trying to be a prick but if wizards really wanted to make it a format I really dont know whats stopping them. I understand EDH was created to be a casual fun format but there are some of us who would have fun playing EDH in a PTQ or something.
I think that EDH should be sanctioned, but like Magic Game Day or other fun events, there shouldn't just be prizes for 1st or 2nd place, but for "deck with most basic lands," or "least used general," or "most creatures," "least creatures," and just random stuff. The prizes for placing should be meager, or even just bad prizes, like Unhinged Basic Lands, or playsets of foil Squires, but individual stores could set it up how they wish.
I want to go back and say for those who did create the game they need to be thanked by anyone who plays EDH. Its by far the funnest magic I have played in a long time. If Wizards did create a EDH format I think they should be rewarded for it. I didnt want to come off in my earlier post that I dont appreciate what they have done for the game. For the few Tourni players in my area its the one thing thats keeping us playing right now.
I would rather not see EDH as a sanctioned format. The format is inherently casual, and a sanction would take that away.
My favorite part of EDH is that it lacks a metagame. If EDH was a sanctioned format it would cause the development of a metagame that would restrict the types of decks played.
I dont view my EDH deck as a competittive machine like my other decks, but rather as something not unlike a living organism, growing learning and refining itself over time.
The best part of EDH is that everyone's deck is their deck. Its the ultimate creative format.
How would making a EDH format change the way you guys play the game. People play normal magic casually all over the world when there are sanctioned tournies all over.

well said.
It's the only format I play other than draft. I'd love to see it supported as casual play.

The format would probably become more aggressive if it were in a competitive environment and I think the format is intended to have few permanents other than lands or mana sources played early. It's kind of about resolving big, stupid spells and watching the chaos ensue.
I echo most of what was said here about keeping EDH casual. At my local game store, where I run the EDH league, we're playing it super casual, as in no infinite combos, no broken win conditions, etc. This is mainly to keep it accessable to even the most new of Magic players, who may only possess Shadowmoor+ cards.
Still, earning MPR points would be hawt, as I very rarely get to play in FNM, etc since I now work at said store.

that isn't actually as huge of a problem as you might think. The current Banned List is maintained at least in part by a level 5 WotC judge. Additionally, the changes made to the list are usually play-tested by WotC's internal Play testing groups. So really all that would change is that the banned list would be made official as far as WotC is concerned. Beyond that not much else would really change.
Additionally the beauty of Elder Dragon Highlander as a casual format, is that even if it becomes a sanctioned format, you don't have to play by the sanctioned rules unless you want to.

Thank you. I could not of said that better myself. I really curious why it seems like people are afraid of EDH becoming a regular format. They worried that people will not want to play casually anymore or just dont want to deal with the spikes jk.
