The deck is based off of an old Standard deck I used to run, which was my deck of choice when I won my Article of the Month. Blackmane, or Blackfire, or Firemane Black, or RBW Firemane, whichever you wanted to call it, was never really ever a bad choice, but it wasn't ever really a good one either. I used to love tinkering with it to try and push it over the top.
When I started thinking about EDH again I returned to the colors of RBW. I knew I could use Oros as my general in those colors, and in my opinion any time you can actually use a legendary dragon in Elder Dragon Highlander, it's awesome. Since you can only run one Firemane the deck isn't largely based off of Firemane anymore, but rather plays like The Rock.
As you can see, it's basically the best of a large variety of cards in the separate colors, along with a bunch of multi cards that are just all kinds of fun. For every powerful standalone, though, there's a bunch of little synergies that make the deck interact with itself and other decks in more than just the standard blow-up-your-stuff-and-play-big-creatures. A few examples:
-Knollspine Invocation/Undead Gladiator + Squee/Oversold Cemetery/Debtors' Knell/Sword of Light and Shadow/Beacon of Unrest/Liliana
-Hondens.
-Dusk Urchins + Sword of Light and Shadow (draws you an assload of cards and then comes back)
I might put Angelic Renewal in here, as well, as that is a solid card for the deck and has a nifty interaction with Dusk Urchins.
Oros, the Avenger is my general, mostly just for colors.
